What to expect?

Postby NeedWood » Wed Feb 10, 2021 12:34 pm

I finally got a date for a consultation. My question is what should I expect? What all steps are going to happen up until the day of the procedure?
Thanks in advance for the feedback

First consult will probably just be asking questions about your history with ED. What are your symptoms, what have you tried, etc, etc...They will talk through the options that you might take before going with an implant, which is irreversible.

If they suspect venous leak, they'll generally schedule an appointment for an ultrasound evaluation to look at how the blood flows into and out of your penis. For this, they'll have a nurse place some medical lubricant on your penis, and they'll use an ultrasound device to view blood flow at rest state. Then they will give you an injection to induce an erection. One you are erect (or as erect as you can get with injections), they will place more medical lubricant on and use the ultrasound device to view blood flow in an erect state.

Once they've determined whether there is a medical need to proceed, you will have to work out with your insurance whether it will be covered. Some doctors are more lenient on their criteria for who they'll implant, but insurance companies are more rigid than an inflated Titan. If there's not a clear sign of physical dysfunction, most insurance won't cover it and you'll have to discuss paying out of pocket.

Once you've got a date to go ahead with it, your doc will prescribe you some pre-surgery tools (scrub brush, antiseptic soap, etc) and give instructions of what to do in the days leading up to surgery. They will talk through the procedure and what to expect in recovery and the long term. What you experience will depend a lot on the doctor you use and the technique they use to do the surgery, as well as which model is used. Be sure to talk about EVERYTHING with your doctor. Never hold back a question or thought because you're embarrassed. This is a PERMANENT procedure, so collect every bit of knowledge you can before choosing this path.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

First thing to expect is to spend a couple weekends reading through past posts on FrankTalk. I did that (in my hunger for information when I first found FrankTalk).

You will get a LOT more information quickly in that way a lot quicker than if you wait for responses from current members to trickle in. Indeed, you may get information not available from currently active members. A lot of men have left FrankTalk after posting really good stuff.

So, faster, more complete information is available if you just read threads with titles that you find interesting.

Welcome to FrankTalk. Thanks for posting helpful vital information in your signature block. That helps us help you with advice.

Here are some links to previous threads in FrankTalk to get you started:

Every insurance has different criteria and coverage. My policy covered me with no prior authorization and no questions asked.
Your doctor's office should work out coverage, but I would recommend calling insurance yourself just to make sure there are no surprises.
