Implanted Feb 12
Re: Implanted Feb 12
Someone can comment on this observation. Would the deflate button location differ between left and right-handed people?

Perhaps not, but I know if the pump were rotated 180 degrees, I could access the button with my left (dominant) hand.

I have to admit--it is a lot harder than I thought it would be to have the semi-erection. Keeping it under control in my work pants requires compression shorts and a jock. It seems without both there is too much movement which causes pain. I am definitely noticing the additional pumps that my doctor gave me and I hope that will make the cycling process work faster. I have definitely lost length, but since I have not fully pumped yet I cannot tell about the girth. I am hanging on the promise my doctor made to me that we would deflate on the 9th! It is only another week away. I have identified all of the parts of the pump and can access them. My only little observation is that my doctor forgot that I am left handed and the deflate button is definitely positioned for my right thumb to access. Still--I am very excited and it is a process. One day at a time!
My experience with my doctor was that he didn't care whether I was right or left handed, nor whether I had a large goose-egg sized testicle on the left side and a smaller (below normal) sized one on the right. He placed the pump on my left side, sharing with the goose-egg testicle and when I asked about the reservoir and pump being on the left, he said it was more convenient for him as he is right handed (facing me on the table, his right was my left).

Definite yes. I can deflate with either hand, but left is easier to put the necessary pressure on the button.

Sorry to hear that, Waynetho. Sounds to me like your surgeon was being a bit of a jerk when he answered you. Surgeons are not known for their bedside manner (prone to a mechanical approach rather than a personable approach to their patients). But still, that degree of snarkiness is uncalled-for.

Re: Implanted Feb 12
My surgeon never addressed the L or R handed issue, and it never occurred to me to ask. My right testicle is much, much larger than the left one. So guess which side he put the pump. Yep, the right side. It's crowded in there and my right nut is really not happy about it.

Over time , the pump and the release button become easier to operate.
My release button is on the left and I'm right hand dominate. No problem.
We humans are very adaptable...ain't no release button gettin the best of us.

Re: Implanted Feb 12
My release button is more to the left, as the pump is sitting at about 45 degrees, not vertical. I guess the reservoir location on the left side of my abdomen aligns the tubing with it. This is just my guess.

Re: Implanted Feb 12
Granted I am just 12 days post op, but my pump is riding very high and to the back, well above my right testicle at a 90 degree angle. If the pump should hang vertically, bulb down, mine is refusing to budge. Dr. wants me to pull down on the pump to coax it lower into my scrotum, but so far, I can't make that happen. It's going to be very difficult to use where it is currently sitting.
