I would certainly find another urologist...seems like he does not have your best interests in his thoughts. We all need to fight for what is right for ourselves. This site has given me some incredable information that the Doc's don't seem to be aware of and you need to tell them what you want to do, it is your life, not theirs.....get educated, ask questions, hold people accountable for what they are telling you and take control of your future...!!!!

OK, my rant is over.....sorry..... :-) sure, right !!!

That is BS......Sounds like it is time for you to take control, yes, it takes time for nerves to heal but you need to be on a rehab program as soon as you can....you need to tell the Dr what you want to do or find another one....

We have story after story on this forum that talks about ED rehab....it is real and validated by some of the best ED Doc's out there and it works in most cases.

1-2-3- Charge..............................:-)

You can do it !!!!!

Curt

When the pills stopped working for me my urologist did an ultra sound on my penis to confirm the status of the blood flow. Then at the same office visit he injected a fairly large dose of trimix into my penis and sent me home to try sex. When I dropped my pants at home my wife said "Wow". That process confirmed that trimix would work for me and how large a dose I should use. Then the urologist's nurse called in a prescription for the trimix to a compounding pharmacy and rounded up a starter set of supplies for me to use for the injections. Then I went to the office and she showed me how to fill the syringe and how to inject by demonstrating on an artificial penis. There is a big difference in how much compounding pharmacies charge for trimix. Some charge 2 or 3 times as much as others and the better ones are about $180 for a 5 months supply. The compounding pharmacy can be anywhere in the U.S. as they ship it overnight with dry ice to keep it refrigerated. My urologist spent a lot of time checking out the compounding pharmacies he would use to be sure their compounding process was okay, and he only uses two last I heard. Your urologist might not be set up to do all that process which might be why he skipped over trimix. If so, you might want to find another urologist who is set up to do that.

Curt; (trimix60)

This may sound profoundly ignorant on my part but I need some clarity on what you mean by a rehab program. I have read in books and on this forum about the “use it or loose it” approach to regaining some of our virility back after prostate surgery. Are you saying that using Trimix, while it will help in getting blood flowing to our penis temporarily, will it do anything to help repair whatever damage was done by the “nerve sparing” surgery? What I have noticed with myself is that as time has past since my RP surgery, the sensitivity in my penis, especially in the glans has diminished considerably. I need to consume at least twice the amount of Cialis as prescribed and have either myself or my wife work like hell on the “ol boy” in order to achieve even a brief erection.

Am I confusing two different issues? One being the capability of getting an erection – blood flow to the penis. Two – lack of stimulation as a result of severed or damaged nerves during surgery. Needless to say – I’ve got both problems.

Hi Woodworker57- Just to make it clear....there are no ignorant questions that can ever be asked on this forum....we are all here to find answers, get educated and help where we can and share our own experiences.

Penile rehab is were you exercise the blood flow back and fourth into your penis.... this exercising helps maintain the tissue and proper blood flow and helps to get your nerve system back to as normal as it can be.

There are several methods and treatments....ED drugs, Vacuum pumps and trimix...I have used them all. I truly believe that there is some truth to " Use it or Lose it".

The sooner you start, the better chance you will actually recover from ED if it is at all possible for you. Everyone has a different situation to deal with.

My Uro just gave me some ED drugs and told me to take 1 pill every Friday.....Wow, was that ever a lame rehab program....It was this forum and also "Healing Well" that educated me to what I should be doing....and, I asked a lot of questions...

Ed drugs were not doing much for me so I felt I needed to go to trimix....it was very strange to even think about injecting my Willy with a drug, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. It gave me back my self confidence about having good sex again....and also gave me the rehab that I should have started months before. I have been using trimix for over a year now and it truly is bringing me back from the dead.....

Ask all the questions you want, don't be shy, we are all very open about all this....

Cheers,

Curt

Well boys…I’m about to officially enter the final frontier and become a member of the bionic brotherhood. I met with the surgeon last week and I’ve completed the pre-surgery screening tests and on March 8th a new chapter begins. I’m excited, I’m a little frightened (I wasn’t for RP surgery) and am hopeful that this procedure will allow my wife and I to enjoy more together other then just dining out and watching movies.

My thanks to all of you who are regular contributors to FrankTalk and for providing so much information, so freely on what is a very difficult and sensitive subject for so many of us. I’ll continue this tread after my surgery and let you know how I make out. Wish me luck…I’m about to have major surgery on my favorite organ!

Congrats, Woodworker! You and I will be getting our implants the same day. Care to share the doctor's name and/or location? As you can see from my "signature", I'll be traveling from Florida to New York for my surgery.

Gerry - As you know I sent you a PM with the information you requested. Please keep in touch and we can compare notes after the surgery.

Earlier in this thread I talked about compiling a list of questions for the surgeon prior to making a decision for the implant. For those of you who are interested, below is the final list of questions that my wife and I asked the doctor.

General Questions on the Implant:

1. How many implants have you performed and how many years have you been doing this type of surgery?
2. Which AMS 700 model do you recommend for me and why? LX or LGX
3. Is there a pre-surgical “fitting”?
4. What complications have arisen post-op with your patients over the last 2 years?
5. Where do you place the pump and do I have any discretion in indicating where the pump is placed?
6. Which method (infrapubic or scrotal) do you prefer and why? Does one have a lower post-op complication rate then another?
7. How will the implant impact the length and girth of my penis?
8. What causes loss of length of penis post-op? How can loss of length be minimized; does pre-op VED therapy improve post-op length of penis?
9. Do you inflate the tubes slightly at the end of surgery? If so, how long do they stay inflated?
10. Describe post-operation steps?
• Catheter?
• Pain?
• Medications?
• Activity?
• Return to work?
• Any effect on bladder control?
• Removal of stitches? Follow-up appointments?
• How long before I’m able to pump by myself?
• How long before I am able to pump to the fullest?
• Have intercourse?
11. What activity restrictions will I have post-op, and for how long (e.g. limitations on lifting weights, driving, racquetball, etc.).
12. What type of anesthesia is used?
13. Describe pre-operation steps? Food? Drink? Laxatives?
14. What is the earliest that the surgical procedure could be scheduled?
15. What will be my financial responsibility for this surgery?
16. What is the life expectancy of the IPP?
17. What do recipients’ of the implant say about feeling, stimulation or sensitivity of the penis when it’s inflated? During orgasm?
18. Do you recommend the continuation of ED medications to stimulate blood flow?
19. What argument, if any, do you offer for not undertaking IPP surgery in my case?

Woodworker57 I read your post with great interest. I was amazed at how closely your story really mirrored my own. I was 51 when I was diagnosed with PC in January 2010. I too had no symptoms and was only getting a full physical due to getting a new Dr. because my normal Dr. had left town. I too was sent to a urologist that gave me antibiotics and when those did not work, suggested the biopsy. I had 6 & 6 samples and also had the same result. My guy did the Da Vinci robotic procedure, nerve sparing. The incontinence was resolved within 4 months, but the ED has persisted ever since. The pills did nothing for me and I tried injections a couple of times, but had extreme pain from them. Ultimately I came to the same conclusion as you and have decided on the implant. I am scheduled for implant surgery on March 7th, the day before you. Wow, it is amazing how two completely different people can have almost the exact same experience. When I read your post it was like I could have written it, other than you having the open surgery. Good luck and stay in touch.
