Mine was removed by by the nurse the day after surgery before they released me front the hospital, but when I had my UroLift procedure in August 2019, I was told I could remove it myself if I thought I was able to (the doctor knew that I self-cathed on occasion without medical need).
As to how, it just takes an empty syringe, 5 ml or larger, attach to the port and let the saline run out into the syringe. Some people suggest just cutting the Luer-lock port off the catheter to let the saline out.LBC2020 wrote:Wait

Both times I was catheterized after going under general anesthesia but I've catheterized myself before and while it's not particularly comfortable when the tip goes through the prostate, it's not too painful and it's only uncomfortable for a few seconds when done correctly and skillfully.

I have pulled out two catheters my self so far. I like to pop a pain killer a hour before and it’s pretty easy to do.

The catheter stays in place because it has a ballon that they inflate after threading it inside your penis
