Does it matter how long you stay pumped up?

Postby edwardl007 » Thu Nov 28, 2019 3:21 pm

I pump generally 1 x day - i never do the max of anything i am supposed to :-) - and leave it up for 45-1 hour. Does keeping it up longer really matter or is it the act of pumping it up in the first place that matters?

I think it’s both that helps just my thought on the subject though. My doctors nurses said not to leave him pumped up more than 4-6 hours.

Hi Everyone!
I’m now at 5 weeks post-op and had an AMS 700 CX installed on Oct 18th. I suffered from Peyronies with a 90 degree bend to the left and ED for over three years. My surgeon was Dr Kadee Thompson and she left me at 60% inflated until the first post surgery checkup at three weeks when she inflated me to 100%, then complete deflation. It was very painful, yet she advised this was necessary for proper healing and I should cycle to 100% at least twice daily and leave it as long as possible, even overnight. I’ve been doing exactly as she advised and the pain from 100% inflation is slowly subsiding as I enter the sixth week. My surgical site is just about healed and I have become very familiar with the feel of the bulb and the deflation valve which is a bit easier as swelling has gone down. The things Dr Thompson stressed were to get familiar with the device, cycle as often as possible, and have patience with the healing process.

Penile Implant discussions aren’t amazing. There is such different protocols, depending on the surgeon and it seems many of the ideas that contradict each other work.

First, on the subject of cycling. From what I know it serves two purposes. One is to keep the device functional and to loosen the pump early on it make it easier to use for the duration. The other is to stretch the penis to help you achieve your maximum potential. In my case I had lost length from Prostatectomy surgery and Peyronies and through cycling twice a day most days for an hour at 100% inflation I gained it back. I don’t believe less that 100% inflation will help. Think of a trash bag. When it seems full you can still put more stuff in it and eventually it stretches to accommodate everything you out in it. But it takes that extra push to do it.

The thing my surgeon warned me about that varies from another comment here is leaving it pumped up for hours, or even overnight. His advice to me was leave it up for sex as long as you are wanting an erection, but keep it deflated most of the time to prevent erosion on the inside of the glans. One of the big downsides of the one piece malleable implants are the constant pressure they put on the glans and some men who had them have had them removed due to the erosion. So leaving a 2 or 3 piece implant fully inflated overnight is more apt to cause that issue.

I am not suggesting what my surgeon said is correct and the other advice is incorrect. I just error on the side of caution so I am not inviting issues.
I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

There are things I cannot understand. First: what is exactly 100% pumped? I can pump 20 times before the pump becomes hard to press. Then, I can pump another 3-4 times by applying strength, and I am completely sure that, if I press with more strenght, I could get 2 or 3 pumps more. But if I put 2-3 times after the pump becomes hard to press, the pain in the tip of my pennis is impossible to bear more than five minutes. And I can tell you that I am able to bear much, much pain. Cannot even imagine how could I bear pain 'inflated to 100%' more than one second.

I think 100% fully pumped varies as time passes. In the first months, maybe 100% pumped means 20 good pumps, by the end of first year, 25, and after 2 years, 30, because of streching. But the 30 pumps were available from the begining, it is just that is impossible to bear the pain it produces.

Some men, myself included can pump to the point that the revivor goes flat and there's no fluid left to transfer. It took e about seven months to get to that point but I do it every day now. I'm rock hard at this point so there's nothing wrong with the implant or the sizing.

First of all you should follow your doctors instructions until you are fully healed and released as such. Doctors differ in skill level and the procedure they use for surgery. And your doctor has seen you in surgery and may have reasons for a longer wait. After you are healed you can decide if you want to try to inflate for stretching if your doctor does not have you doing this. Some doctors are now advising VED use after implant also. And some doctors have you start cycling in a week or less and others have you wait as long as 8 weeks. But that is something to be talked about with your doctor before surgery. If you want to start early then look for a doctor that does that. Some doctors may not be good enough to have you cycle early so there are risks going against your doctors orders. Now after you are healed you can consider VED use or stretching during cycling. Your call. For cycling to stretch you inflate until you are at max ( cannot get any more pumps in) then wait 3-5 minutes then try to add pumps. Or inflate until you feel stretching and wait. If the stretching feeling goes away then try to add more pumps. This can be done up to an hour a day and can be split up in to 2 30 minute inflations. But if you have pain then you should stop and deflate. It also depends on the device you have. The LGX expands more in length than the other devices. The Titan will expand some in length also. I have no information on the CX. But this is very slow work and takes up to or over a year. VED use has been reported to have the same results and is report to be much quicker.

I hope this helps a bit. Best of luck to everyone with this.

100% pumped is when you've transferred all of the saline fluid in the reservoir to the implant by pumping the bulb. If your erection is anything less than 100% rock hard at this point, you have a problem somewhere in the system that needs fixing.
Implanted 5/6/20 by Dr. Jesse Mills at UCLA; AMS 700 LGX 18 cm w/2 cm RTEs. I'm 76 & fit but had ED for 20 years. Pills/injections ultimately failed, including 3 ER trips for Priapism; Shockwave & embryonic stem cell therapies didn't help either.
