Surgery on Friday. Having second thoughts!

Postby Toby799 » Mon May 24, 2021 8:16 am

Hi all, so I have surgery booked for this Friday to have a Coloplast Titan implant fitted in the UK. I was sure it was the right thing to do but I'm now getting some doubts, which is spinning me into a pretty anxious state. I thought I would share a little about my situation, rationale for getting the implant and the concerns that suddenly seem to be looming large for me. I'd be really grateful to receive anybody's 2 cents worth, although I know ultimately, it's got to be my decision.

So, my background; I'm 41, in quite good shape, good health, single. I've had some degree of erectile dysfunction since I was 21, starting after I wore a cock ring for too long. This has been pretty well managed for most of this time with tablets and (sensible) use of a cock ring, but the tablets have stopped working over the last 3-4 years. I've started injecting for the last year, which initially didn't work until I tried 'invicorp' an option better for venous leakage which is my issue. With a cock ring I can get a pretty decent erection using invicorp and cialis, not completely rigid, bit of a bend, not as firm as days gone by but good enough for sex.

I've also done quite a bit of 'penis enlargement' over the years- jelquing, pumping and have added about an inch in length and close to an inch in girth. I'm 7 inches long and 6 inches round mid shaft (thinner below the glans and thicker at the base).

My rationale for getting the implant was based upon a number of factors. I don't like the lack of spontaneity with injections. Although I'm not in a relationship, I can imagine this would have a big impact on a couples sex life. Also, once I'm injected I'm left with a somewhat hard penis for several hours afterwards that needs concealing. This obviously impacts on any plans after sex. No before work fun, before going out etc etc. Again, an issue that I can imagine would distort and take a lot of the fun/spontaneity out of a couples love life. Currently I worry a fair bit about deterioration of my penile tissues over time with poor nocturnal erections and injecting over years. Getting an implant now before the rot sets in seems like the best option along with the reality that my erectile dysfunction is progressive and I'm going to end up with one at some point, so why not now..

So that has been where my head has been at for most of the time I've been patiently waiting for the op. Suddenly though, I'm questioning things. I mean, I CAN get an erection, albeit with all the scaffolding (tablets, injection and cock ring) and irritating issues described above. My main concern (as is the case for many men I guess) is not knowing what my erection is going to be like after the surgery. I probably have more of a slightly neurotic preoccupation with my size than most, having done all the penis enlargement and I do like my size. If it turns out to be a lot smaller I don't know how I'll feel. I've read quite a few people talking about quite significant girth losses of half to an inch and also having quite a 'flat' shape, while others have not run into these issues. I'm def more of a grower and when things are cold, my little man can shrivel up pretty small. I'm worried that a lack of actual tissue (it expands a lot with blood) might make me more prone to these issues.

So this is all the stuff that's whirring round in my head right now. As I say, I don't expect anyone to be able to categorically tell me what to do but if anybody has any thoughts I'd be really grateful. Especially from guys for whom injections were still working when you took the plunge. Are you glad you did or do you now regret it?

Yes I was anxious before my surgery since it was the first surgery I ever had. At 68!
It went fine so don't worry. The good side is my penis now works whenever I want it to.

I did the pills and injections until they no longer worked, so it was the last step to get implanted. I will say the change has been great. No more planning "Do I have to take a pill tonight?" or stopping after warming up some to go inject. Inflation takes just a minute or so, and I do that right there in bed with the wife.

I recently posted about losing 2.5 centimeters in girth and having a flat shape. The surgery is irreversible and you are still functional so it may be worthwhile to do more research. As for losing girth, you are at 15 cms so I don’t believe you will have that unaroused. IF the spongy tissue around the urethra expands you may gain back some and look fuller. I think the “flat penis” issue is more common and men with smaller penises (obviously not you) are more satisfied because the implant gives them additional girth (albeit a flat penis)

Injections were still working for me. Along with pain, variance in Usable Erect times, and refrigeration requirements.

I wasted years of Erect, great sex because of fear, What-ifs. I would do it again tomorrow. As to the revision thoughts... While I want this one to last 10 or more years, plenty of revisions have been completed with better results. Fixing things that just weren't "right".

As I waited for the Dr. and surgery team to show up, my manta was "My dick is Broke. Fix it." And then, I woke up. I went into surgery 5.5" Length, 5" girth. after 3 months, I'm now just under 6" Length, 4.75" girth. cycling early does help.

There will be a period of adjustment. It is not a natural Dick. It is Awesome to be erect when I want, as long as I want. Without any external add-ons (pills, shots, cock rings, etc).

I wish you well in your decision to become Whole again.

After doing extensive research, I decided injections were not something I wanted to even try.

I used the oral medications for several years until they lost effectiveness. I used every pill available to me.

I tried the Vacuum Erection Device (VED) a couple of times and found it not satisfactory for sex (but VERY helpful for therapy - maintain elasticity and size and to flush blood through my penile tissues).

The implant was a choice that, if it failed, would leave me no worse off than I was before surgery and, if successful, would let me have an erection adequate to satisfy my lover(s). I did not care overmuch whether I was sexually satisfied or not - I had received many more orgasms from women than I had given to them and figured it was time to repay that debt. Put another way, I get a lot of satisfaction from giving a woman an orgasm and had experienced a LOT of frustration from erections that did not last long enough. An implant promised to resolve both issues.

I knew enough about the risks and likely outcomes to dispel all my fears and never had a moment's doubt from the moment I received authorization to seek the surgery.

I got a Titan implant last fall.

I didn't lose any length. The shape of my girth is a little different, but I don't think I lost any size.

It's definitely better to have the certainty of the implant over the significant uncertainty of the combination of Levitra and a cock ring.

You're right about the efficacy of the meds. They became less and less effective over time for me. But my libido didn't wane. If I'd known about implants at 41, I definitely would have gotten one.

There are guys on here in their 70's talking about very active sex lives. You have a long way to go.

Thanks for the input Wunhunglo. Yes, I read your post and was a little concerned by the (atleast initial) loss following imolant. Fingers crossed you'll get atleast some of the loss back over the coming months. That does seem to be the trend.

I note that prior to your implant you injected for many years. Did you gain some girth while injectng over and above your natural size? I only ask because I remember reading another member talking about losing a lot of girth following an implant. But this only took him back to his pre-injecting size (he had gained around an inch in girth during over a decade of injecting). Maybe there is something about girth gained chemically from injecting that cannot be retained with an implant. Just a musing but wonder if any of this rings true for you?

Thanks Time2Change, encouraging to hear. Did you try the injections too or just decide they weren't a road you cared to tread? Also, would you be willing to post your measurements. It's interesting and informative to know how different sized penises have fared in terms of losing or gaining length/girth..

Good to hear the implant is working well for you! And also that you didn't even consider injections. It's one of my major concerns - that I MUST persevere with the injections until they stop working even when there are so many drawbacks...

I didn’t use injections to have sex—only for the size test and doppler.
