I put the ice on TOP of the jockstrap. I can’t imagine any other way. Can’t stress enough the importance of icing. I was icing the whole time in the recovery suite (2+ hours) and most of the next three days. I had zero swelling in my testicles (dull ache but no pain), and minor swelling of the shaft.

I don’t think I have a high pain tolerance, I almost cried during the cystoscopy :(

Wow! My flexible cystoscopy was a walk in the park! They used just the right amount of lidocaine gel in my urethra and although I felt pressure/movement I had no pain. I had however, previously practiced self-catheterization on a numerous occasions and had worn foley catheters several times without medical need (my motive: to try to get adequate sleep at night without being up 5-6 times a night for 30 minutes per session, due to BPH).

Now for my rigid cystoscope procedure to insert my UroLift implants in my prostate, I was under general anesthesia but only because the doctor preferred to do it that way, in a surgical center setting rather than in the office with a nerve block as some choose to do.

As to how I iced, sometimes I would apply the fabric (fuzzy) ice bag directly on the skin and hold it in place with underwear. Other times I would wrap it in a t-shirt or terrycloth face towel. Both were similar in results because the bag had its own soft fabric texture. Occasionally I found things were too cold and numbing a bit so I would remove the bag and leave it in the bed until things warmed up a bit then reapply it.

Every other surgery in my life ive been able to get away with no painkillers/very low dosages. What sort of dosages did you guys have to take? Im really scared of becoming addicted.

Thanks so much guys.

Ice packs should have been started as soon as possible after surgery. Also my doctor with my first surgery instructed to use over the counter anti inflammatory meds like Motrin (NSAIDS). If you can take them and remain flat as you can. If you did not do this for the first 2 days then that is what is causing your trouble. At day 3 you should be able to be getting up a bit more. You can use Ice packs for a few days and the NSAIDS if you can.

As for pain this varies a lot depending on the doctors surgical method and skill and the amount of work that was done during the surgery. Some implants are more difficult to get properly placed due to us being different and various problems that can be found during surgery.

For me I was held over night as I was alone and was flat on my back all night after surgery in the hospital. So that helped a lot. I did not take any pain meds at all afterwards and only accepted Tylenol for the shuttle ride back to my Hotel room. And I had ice packs in my freezer and started with them as soon as I arrived. I also had Motrin and started taking one Tylenol and one Motrin together. Or alternate a dose of each 4-6 hours apart. I did not take a narcotic pain med until the morning of my flight home. And that did not go very well as it did not work until I arrived home and the Tylenol/Motrin would have done better.

But I have read of men having pain for over a week after surgery. So this does happen. Could be a number of reasons that I listed above. But lay as flat as you can for a few days and use Ice packs and take NSAIDS if you can to see if you can get some relief and then start getting up more. Then contact your doctor about when to switch from ice packs to heat. Ice slows down the damage from injury and heat promotes healing. Like with an ankle injury you apply ice for a certain amount of time then switch to heat.

Best of luck going forward with this and remember to follow your doctors instructions. What is posted on this site is most likely what other doctors have said to do with other men and not your doctor with you.

Ibuprofen for two and a half weeks post surgery. For the pain, discomfort initially (about a week) then for scrotal inflammation for the rest of the time. IMO if your do did their job well the pain will be manageable without prescription pain killers

I took a total of 8 Oxycodone the first 4 days following surgery. I wanted to get and stay ahead of the pain, and it worked. Also made a good nights sleep possible. I threw in some Ibuprofen for swelling, which also worked. Don't think there was no pain, because there was some even with pain killers, but it was very manageable.

I used two Tramadol in the three weeks after surgery. One was after getting home from the hospital. The second was before my second follow up visit with my uro. The ice worked better to relieve pain, which wasn't overwhelming and the Tramadol didn't seem to help anything.

I did use three Tramadol over two days when I got a toothache. Helped a little.

I'm currently 14 days post implant. Unlike others I had to spend the night due to complications from a previous 16 dot plication to fix Peyronies. The nurses had me one Oxi and Tylenol in alternating 3 hour intervals. I was released the next day with a catheter and drain tube coming out of my right scrotum. I had to fight with the catheter for a full week and then the JP drain tube out 4 days later. Long of the short, I hate pain meds as they clog you up and fog your head. They sent me home with Oxi and never took them and relied on Tylenol to cut the edge. I did however, start a peptide regiment of BPC157 and TB-500 to enhance recovery based on the post of a fellow member. It seems to have helped with inflammation and swelling as well as healing. Still doing ice to calm those times when it becomes more than a nuisance. Best of luck.

took zero pain pills, just an occasional ibuprofen. Most everything felt more numb internally than painful to me, or it was a weird insidious type of discomfort that I am not sure I would call pain.

I'm amazed at how some guys can take almost nothing for pain, and others need heavy drugs. Unfortunately I was one of the ones needing heavy drugs. I was taking hydrocodone and tramadol every 4 hours for a week, which were doing almost nothing for the pain and make me nauseous. Doc gave me Percocet's, five days of those helped the pain but severe constipation was the result. Gave up on prescription drugs and got a medical marijuana card. That was the best pain relief I found.
