Consultation with Surgeon

Postby Raleighlandshark11 » Wed Jun 23, 2021 12:27 pm

After years of Low T treatment, Viagra, Cialis I have decided that an implant may be the only solution. My wife and I will consult with my Urologist on July 2nd.

What questions should we ask? What can we expect during the recovery period? At almost 61 is this the right option?

Best wishes to you for a great success. I got mine about 3 years ago and like many here, wish I'd done it sooner. This is a great resource for research while thinking it through, so ask all the questions you want, and search through history a little. Almost every question you might have has been answered here somewhere.

In the meanwhile, questions for the surgeon might include:

1. How many surgeries have you done and how many do you do a week? Many of us feel that high volume implant surgeons tend to do a better job. Compare the numbers you get with others from here.

2. How long before I can "activate" the implant (this mean inflate and deflate or "cycle"). I was able to start cycling at one week after surgery, but many have to wait 6 weeks or so, which apparently can allow some scar tissue to build that you then have to break through to get size back.

3. Infrapubic or peno scrotal surgery? I wanted infrapubic but many prefer peno scrotal. Your choice, but if you only have one doctor to talk to, he probably only does one or the other. For me, infrapubic was less recovery time, but many are scared that this type of surgery can damage the dorsal nerve of the penis and so they want peno scrotal. Search this topic if you are interested.

4. What do you do to make sure there can be no infection? Also could ask how often his/her patients have gotten infections. The rate should be extremely low.

5. How long before I can get into a tub of hot water? This may be counter-intuitive, because you'll want ace on your junk to reduce swelling, but during my recovery getting into a very very hot bath gave tremendous relief and I was able to start doing so on about day 4. My incision was sealed with surgical glue, so there was no risk of infection from getting into a tub. But whatever you do, make sure you follow your doctor's guidance on this. If he says two weeks or not until after he clears it, do what he says.

6. Will you leave me inflated after surgery, how much, and how long? I was 70% inflated for a week. Some are left inflated for 6 weeks. It makes things very uncomfortable when you need to go out in public if you're highly inflated for a long time. Pressure on your dick when inflated during the first weeks is very uncomfortable, but the only way you can keep from tenting your pants. You can keep your dick pointed up and to one side with a tight jock or compression shorts, but I hated the pain from the pressure that caused. I mainly went with loose pants and covered the bulge with a long tailed shirt, but I didn't have to do it for long.

If you don't get the answers you want, keep looking. I interviewed 3 doctors before I found the one I wanted, and ended up traveling 700 miles to get the right surgeon for me. Most men here love their implants, but the ones who don't often indicate that the surgeon was part of the problem. You want a guy that does a lot, but also a guy that is staying up to date on the latest research about keeping recovery short, keeping infection rates low, and doing everything possible to give a man the most size he can get. None of us want to lose length.

Good luck with your search. And I hope you end up liking your implant as much as I do mine.

Thank you Quincy for all the great questions! I did have kidney stone surgery by this surgeon last year and very pleased with my recovery. I didn’t realize he did implants until I asked about one and then found he has several videos online. So sometimes I need to speak up quicker I suppose.

Not that I mind, but is is standard that they ask your partner to attend the consultation too? If so, what can she expect?
