What did you tell family/friends you were going into surgery for when you were being implanted?

I told my son the truth that I was getting a penile implant. The hospital told me to leave some things at home--wallet, phone, etc. My son brought those things to my room after surgery. He altoo took me home from the hospital.

I told everyone else that I was having a complicated hernia repair and left it at that.

At work, I asked for personal time off (PTO) for surgery. I work in a hospital records section. My boss had me apply for short term disability which was eventually denied (doctor's office didn't provide the documentation requested on time). I didn't care because I had lots of PTO and was only off 7 days over 2 weeks. The application didn't ask for such specifics (violation of HIPAA rules).

My public story was "hernia repair." It seemed to work and certainly explained the obvious-to-all pain in my crotch & my favoring that area for several weeks. Very few people actually know the truth.

I keep my personal matters private. Nobody but my wife and my doctors know about my implant.

My story was a growth on a testicle. Only my wife, the surgeon, my primary and ortho docs know.
If any of my boys ever need the info they will definitely be directed to FT.

I told my son, daughter, sister-in-law, and a cousin about it.
My daughter told her married daughter and she thought it was hilarious.

I didn't tell anyone I was having surgery. We had 1 family event that we had to decline the invitation to, but that was it. Implant was done on a Friday and I was discharged on the Sunday so my wife was able to care foe me on release without needing time off work.

personfromon wrote:Bit of a light hearted thread, but I'm curious because I feel when I finally do pull the trigger to get an implant I'll have to come up with a bit of a story! Especially considering I'm fairly young and the fact that I live in Canada & will most likely go to the states to get it done. I have roommates, coworkers, friends & family who will undoubtedly ask where I've been, and if I just tell them "oh I flew to the states to get surgery" I'll definitely be getting "surgery for what?!"

So, are there any surgeries that could pass for a) not having a physical scar to show them anywhere on your body and b) being out of commission for a few weeks?

Did you have a story you told people or did you spill the beans? :D

Any input on this is appreciated, thanks!

In keeping with the "light hearted" Original Post, here's a thought:

Tell everyone you are getting a penis transplant. The donor is a 22 year old porn star who decided to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Making up a story of how you met and why he chose you is up to you. :D

(Edit) Never mind the medical difficulty of donating erectile tissues to another person during the reassignment surgery.

It is a story you can tell that 1) on its face, answers the question, avoiding the appearance of rudeness of "I don't want to tell you.", 2) clearly is false and 3) notifies the questioner that you do not want to tell.

If you lost a leg would you keep it a secret that you got a prosthesis? Hill no. Everyone nows there are prosthesis for lost legs and arms. Why don't people know about implants? Because it is kept secret like the problems after prostate cancer. I told everyone. I wish my father had told me about his cancer and implant. Maybe I would have done things different. I am PC and implant advocate and have discussed it with about everyone I know if they are curious. Hell my GP doctor even asked how it was installed and how it works. I took my grandsons to a basket ball tournament in Vegas that they played in. Grandpa , do you mean you have a boner full time? Yep, doctor left it that way for 4 weeks to fix my bend. What you had a bent dick? That led into a conversation about PD, which is just beginning to surface on news programs. How many guys suffer with PD and just live with it. These things need to be discussed.
