Injuries to the penis: torn frenulum?

An enthusiastic girlfriend (who ended up being the first girl I had full sex with) tore mine when I was 17 years old (I'm 65 now) and she 16. We both panicked and worried about it for a week or two but it healed with no lasting problem. The trouble was there was no internet or anywhere else to get advice from then of course!

How did you fix the injury, any tips you'd like to share with us?

I applied some vaseline, like richkez32 suggested, and it seems to be great.

UPDATE: 11 days after the injury, the small tear is still visible. No pain, but it is sensitive to the touch. Vaseline seems to be doing great.

Here's an uncomfortable topic: injuries to the penis are much more common than we think.

Peyronie's Disease and penile curvature may sometimes be the result of trauma. And according to Doctor Egydio, some of those injuries may even occur during sleep. Now that's a scary thought!

Better safe than sorry: a few precautions should be taken, e.g. some sex positions are riskier than others. Make sure you are not putting too much strain/weight on your penis, woman on top is a definite no from me. And don't try to imitate some of the crap you see in porn: those movies are dreadful and totally fake.

I believe I may have partially torn my frenulum because of rough sex recently. There was no bleeding and no pain, just a very slight discomfort and a bit of swollen skin. It's enough to make me avoid any kind of sexual activity for the next weeks.

I recently "damaged" my frenulum by stretching it too much with a piercing. I've posted about it in the thread about penile jewelry, but basically we were trying to increase the size of my piercing, for aesthetic reasons, but it didn't go as planned. The heavier ring stretched the piercing hole way too much. It never bled or anything, that's why i didn't even notice it until too late. The skin is not broken, but it's much thinner than before and the previously tiny piercing hole now is pretty big and the frenulum is tiny.
I've consulted with both my GP and my uro and both say it's nothing to worry about. At worst it might break on it's own during sex but it's not all that probable since the skin in those parts is very elastic and made to stretch. They said that even if it did break, the worst part is it'll bleed for a while, then there will probably be a little piece of hanging skin on the top or the bottom, depending where it breaks. It can be surgically removed with a tiny operation or just left as it is, if we don't find it ugly.

So in short, don't worry too much about that, the frenulum has no "real" function, even if it breaks it won't change the function or shape of your penis in any way.

I don't have a piercing but my case seems to be similar to yours. No bleeding, no pain, just a slight discomfort. And yes, the skin is a little bit thinner in the affected area and I fear it may break and bleed during sex.

I will not take any chances and will avoid sex for at least a month.

I have stopped using vaseline, it's effective but a bit aggressive and I believe you shouldn't overdo it (too much of a good thing...). I didn't read this anywhere, it's just a gut feeling of mine.

Now I'm just applying aloe vera and an antisseptic spray, even though there is no open wound.

Did your doctor recommend any cream or treatment to speed up the healing process?

Not in my case, since there's nothing to heal really. As i mentioned, there was no "lesion" or breakage, it's just stretched but "clean", as an ear would be i guess, if you would use plugs or fleshes to stretch an ear piercing.

UPDATE: I just did something incredibly stupid and because neosporin cream is not available here, I tried an entirely different cream and the result was not good. It irritated the glans and I had to wash it off.

Other than that, the injury has improved. The skin is getting thicker and stronger, there is no redness, pain or discomfort but it is still not entirely healed.

On another Forum there is a 14 page thread about removing your frenulum. And the benefits from doing so. It looks a lot easier to remove or release the frenulum than it might sound.

UPDATE: Week 3 and the frenulum looks great, much thicker and stronger. It's not entirely healed yet but I'm really happy with the progress.

There was, however, another problem. As I've said before, I wanted to speed the healing process but I didn't have neosporin so I tried a similar antibiotic cream. The result was not good, it irritated my penis and caused an infection called balanitis.

There were small lesions everywhere (glans and prepuce) and the burning sensation was unbearable. I was afraid to apply anything else, so I just kept the area clean and dry but the infection persisted for an entire day.

I did some research and balanitis seems to be a fungal infection that may be caused by antibiotics. This makes no sense to me, how can antibiotics cause a fungal infection but that's what happened: the infection appeared immediately after I applied that dreadful antibiotic cream. This kind of reaction had never happened to me.

After an entire day of pain, I applied some Bag Balm, a powerful antifungal ointment, to the lesions and the infection subsided almost as quickly as they appeared. Everything is fine now, there are no more lesions, no pain, no discomfort and the frenulum is healing really well.

More likely some sort of contact dermatitis. Your skin just didn't like that cream. As for the bag balm, that's largely lanolin which is generally pretty soothing to the skin. I didn't know it to be anti-fungal. It looks like the current active ingredient is 8-Hydroxyquinoline Sulfate (0.3%).
