Yes,

Visual, sensate, mental. Also, chemical (viagra, etc) and vacuum erection devices work as well and some men with implants use them to good effect. Especially those who have impaired circulation or loss of sensation either because of the implant operation or other causes (diabetes, heart disease, neurological problems, etc)

its not that simple

Your reply puzzles me. I think that the overwhelming members responce is that it is basically that simple.
The only thing that I can think of is that you must still have usable erections or drugs and/or injections are working for you. If drug or injections are satisfactory for you. Then continue them. Implants are normally considered to be the last step.

My reply is saying if nothing else works to achieve an erection an implant is the last option as it was for me.To me it’s that simple,I chose to have the ability to achieve erections and I now can.So many men are concerned about the trade off’s involved but the alternative to an implant when all else has failed is no erections and no intercourse! So for me it’s that simple!

No I havent been able to have penetrative sex for 2 years and have had ED to some degree for around 15 years

I was talking about the trade offs between good sensation and a hard artificial erection

There MIGHT be a trade off. When you undergo surgery you take a risk.

The choice between having a painful tooth filled or having it pulled is a choice.

Perhaps even more comparable would be if you have a foot that has been injured to such an extent that you cannot run, but you can hobble along with difficulty. Offered amputation and replacement with an artificial lower leg that would allow you to run and jump. But you (maybe) would no longer be able to feel with your toes.

When I was first facing ED and was unable to give my partners orgasms, but I could orgasm easily. I thought, "Would I be willing to give up my orgasms for a penis that woudl stay erect long enough for my partner to have orgasms through coitus?" I tended to "Yes" but wondered if I would eventually regret such a Faustian bargain.

(My self-esteem depended more on my partners' experience than my own pleasure. I may be different than the majority of men...or not.)

Mark74, I think you are wondering much the same question. Would I accept the loss of some sensation if the benefit gained was a working penis? Remember, the loss of sensation is not certain. (Even the gain of a working penis is not 100% guaranteed - some men have had failed operations, though they are rare and often fixable.)

Of all the things that get tossed around and discussed on here, this one perplexed me the most. It may be due to the crap I was dealing with for an erection. Pills and shots gave me an erection that would penetrate but truthfully? The quality wasn’t great.

In the bad old days before my implant I’d end up with a pharmaceutically induced erection. If I were to assign a percentage or quality to it, call it 65 maybe 70 percent.

Yes I would have sex with it. Yes I had to use Herculean efforts to keep myself really stimulated so I didn’t lose it. My ED was very position dependent. On my back wasn’t bad, on my belly 50/50. On my knees thrusting, time my erection with a 3 minute egg timer.

Without a really hard organ, there’s a limit to just how much stimulation you can get. You punch a hard fist against a solid object, you get a lot more sensation that if you strike the object with a limp, relaxed hand.

That’s been the biggest bonus for me. Some guys report delayed ejaculation with the implant. I had it for years (delayed ejaculation) but I seldom see any signs of it with the implant. If I got any more sensation I might end up in the ICU. Finishing up in a timely manner is no longer a struggle or unachievable goal.

My artificially hard implant to me is hard the way a normal erection ought to be but never was, and it has plenty of sensitivity. I don’t have to pound and pound and pound and set off the mother of all yeast infections with my wife from going too long. By the way that (causing a yeSt infection) is a good way to end up on couch.

Maybe I’m an outlier. But the hardness and rigidity improved my sensation by a whole bunch.

Maybe you're not an outlier. It's interesting to say the least

I'm just shy of 2 year mark and had thought over the first year or so that, generally, my sensation during sex had diminished somewhat post-implant. But I am not so sure that's true anymore.

Reality is - I lost an inch of girth. I'm comfortably reconciled that it ain't returning. One inch less girth entering the same vagina means, by definition, less constrictive force = less sensation to me. But at the same time, if I fully inflate...really push the cylinders to maximum...and if the pressure my dick is working against is very firm (her hands, her ass, my hand) then the sensation in my dick is pretty damn amazing. It absolutely rivals or exceeds any prior erection's sensation, and I include in that the days of the superhuman injections when those were at their apex.

She doesn't always prefer max inflation. She does anally, but not vaginally. Go figure.

I think this sensation thing is not static; what it was a month, six months, a year post-op, seems to be a much more dynamic thing than I initially thought. I'm also someone who (maybe oddly) always had better more exciting stimuli via my shaft itself vs the glans. From what I read here, that's probably not the typical experience.

I remember having a tooth pulled one time and swear I felt as if I had lost a leg or arm. It was a weird feeling and just a way your mind can do crazy things. Hope you feel better soon. I have some questions for you. How did you like your Doc and staff? I am thinking of using him next year after I change insurance. Do you live close by or did you have to travel. I would have to travel about 4hrs. one way. If you did travel and have to stay a few days, how did it work out? If you don't fill comfortable about some of the questions, just don't answer them. Thanks!

When you said the dr was only able to install a 21cm vs what you had anticipated, did your Dr think he could install a longer implant and there were problems that prevented it or were you thinking based your size pre-op etc.. you who get a longer implant.

Honestly, I’ll probably need some serious type of talk therapy to
Move past this. All I hear in my head all night was “you’ve made the biggest mistake of your life” over and over and over. I wouldn’t have predicted this. I did so much research. Years. I tried everything else for ED over the years with flimsy results. Yet somehow it just really hits home that I’ve ultimately failed.
