RETURNING ERECTIONS

Postby ret1199 » Sun Aug 08, 2021 1:36 pm

In about 3 weeks it will be 2 years since I had my prostate removed. My urologist says he was able to spare the nerves that
provide erections. I still have not had a natural erection since my surgery. For those of you who have been through this did your erection come back all at once? Like you woke up in the night with one? I woke up the other night and while I did not have a full blown hardon it was "plumper" more like the start of one. Did any of you experience this and they slowly returned to full erections? Mt doctor keeps asking if I have had during my sleep.

Hiya I had my prostate removed in 2015 nerve sparing no erections in 3 years after. In 2018 the cancer returned so had 37 rounds of radiotherapy to the prostate bed. I was told that the nerves that had been spared were now probably useless. Then one morning in 2020 I woke up with a raging hard on. :D despite a lot of trying in the five years previously I didn’t get even a slight erection. So I was amazed when I woke up to find a rock hard erection waiting for me. I can get a good hard erection when I need one but don’t get any spontaneous erections in the day time but do in the night. So yer after a very long time erections did come back. Just a pity of my almost nonexistent sex drive and a testosterone level of 0.7. And now my psa being 3.2 and the oncologist being sure my cancer as returned. I can still get good wood when I try. So good luck and hang on in there.
I had a RP in 2016 and a year later My psa started to rise resulting in having 37 sections of radio therapy. 2021 Testosterone replacement stopped due to psa rising again. Oncologist says most likely coming from a malignant source. I am at my wits end.

I have on a few occasions felt a thickening much like you described, but no, erections haven't returned and it's been 10 years. Thank goodness for injections.

Never came back despite nerve sparing procedure and use of Stem cells. Once in a great while I'll get the barest of morning wood that fails after a few seconds.

I also had nerve sparing robotic surgery by one of the guys from Johns Hopkins who was on the research group that developed the robotic surgery. It has been 9 years for me and only the occasional thickness or elongation but only for a moment or wake up with it. The funniest are sitting on the can and while its hanging it sometimes gets thick. I assume at this point its the wearing off of the pills or from an injection earlier in the day.

I was in your shoes when I first found Frank Talk while searching for the answer to the same question. Honestly you just don't know if it will come back, but if you respond to pills or injections then that is a start. I know the anxiety and wish you success!! You can PM me any time i am happy to talk about it.

Sadly, i believe that with time it only gets worse.
I haven't had prostate surgery but as you can see in my sig, my ED is caused by neurological reasons so it's probably similar in many ways. When i was young (teen) i used to get pretty decent nocturnal erections, even tho i couldn't get "natural" ones by stimulation. They'd often last for quite a while after waking up, usually bothering me until i've masturbated to "release the pressure". As time passed, these got rarer and rarer. Nowadays, at 37, i don't ever get "actual" erections in the night anymore, the "best" is a plumper dick if i've slept through the whole night without waking up to pee.
I've noticed that this decline coincided with the start of my active sex life with a long-term partner. At first i thought it's normal, i had gone past the hormone storm of the teen years and i was having sex on daily basis so there was no "pressure" anymore. Recent posts here had me thinking tho, as it seems that some members who've developed ED late in their lives kept having big nocturnal erections for a long time.

I don't know if it's age related, life-style related or ED related, but i am not holding hopes of things getting better in the future.
40 years old, married. ED all my life because of spinal cord injury caused by a tumor in early infant age. Using standard EDEX20 since 2007. Increasingly bad results with EDEX in the last few years, but had very good results for at least 10 years.

I am almost three years since radical prostatectomy (Oct 2018). The holy grail of a "natural" erection still eludes me. I currently take a 20mg sildenafil (generic viagra) once per day, as I have since surgery. I use trimix for "doing the dirty deed".

My nocturnal erections are getting stronger, but not strong enough for vaginal penetration. I have coaxed a few high quality erections with manual stimulation and getting my brain to believe there was an erotic target nearby. I am a full believer that the entire system must function to achieve a natural erection. The brain must fire the signal through the nerves to stimulate the blood flow to the penis. I have not given up, I'm older (65) but relatively healthy.

Keep us posted on your progress.

ftwabeck3533, how much of a "nerve-sparing" procedure did yours end up?
24 y/o suffering from sudden onset of severe ED (from previously having no ED at all). perfectly normal penile doppler and blood/hormone/urine test results. UPDATE: diagnosed with tight pelvic floor dysfunction

Here's the exact language included in my surgeon's report from my prostatectomy. I did some limited research at the time of my surgery to try to understand what it means, but I really can't explain what it. Basically, I believe there was some nerve-sparing, but how much or how successful is a mystery. Who knows?

"A right veil/left non-veil nerve sparing technique was performed and the prostate was freed to the apex."

Anyone who has some further insight, please comment.

Hi
I'm now 6 years since my prostate was removed.
Never really had an erection despite nerves 'spared on one side'.
I'm 60 now and been healthy and pretty fit all my life.
I take 5 gms of cialis every few days just to give me some girth but it gave me terrible bags under my eyes and heartburn . so its the pump for me with frequent brief visits to the toilet to 'pump it up' during sex. My girlfriend is patient !!

Have tried various herbal options over the years, but nothing.
Have accepted that this is the best i can do.
Sometimes I now feel less horny than i did ( i loved sex ) and often can't be bothered with the fuss now. Still find woman very attractive.

I know I don't have cancer - every 6 months tested - I get to see my daughter grow up.
there you have it.
Nothing out there makes a difference .... tho looking forward the ointment thats about to hit the market .. fingers crossed
