Should I take the plunge?

54 years old, otherwise heathy and fit. Cialis has little affect. I can take a hand-full of Cialis and follow up with injection of Trimix that gets me 50%, while something, is not much use for penetration, then add 2-3 restrictive rings and I can sometime pull it off for a few minutes, depending on position, etc. I have been struggling with this and as everyone knows, hard mentally. I went to an initial visit at the urologist today and ultrasound confirms venous leak. I was able to touch and feel the Coloplast Titan that is recommended. I am trying to decide on scheduling the surgery. At this point just the mental confidence that I will be 30 years younger again and could have an endless erection makes me want to go ahead with it. Although I don’t want to be a victim of mid-life crisis. Advice? Encouragement? Warnings?

Ely it is a huge. you are still young I wish I had done the years ago inspire of the issues I have had. This group go guys are here to help we may not agree on everything but you will get the straight talk here.

I had it done yesterday because I wanted reliability. I did not even go as far as you did with shots, etc. There are still a lot of good years ahead physically and mentally with this solution, just my opinion.

From what you've described, it sounds like it's time for an implant.

My ED wasn't as advanced as yours, and I found it intolerable. I was so happy to learn about the implant from my doctor.

Recovery from the surgery took a little while, but now I'm very happy with the results.

It depends what your goals are and what you can handle psychologically.

Sometimes the choice simply comes down to maintaining a penis that is completely biological and cannot penetrate or choosing a penis that is partially synthetic that will always penetrate.

Neither choice is good, but what one chooses depends on what one can deal with mentally.

I want to add that I dont think doing all those injections and using those rings is a good idea. I think they can only further traumatize your penis

It sounds like it is past time. I’m not far behind you. I’m using 75 units of a really potent mix and wearing a cock ring as well and it works but just barely.

It’s a tough decision but it sounds like you have reached that point.

Research a great doctor and put yourself in their care.

I would go for it. 58 here all of the American troubles. I am 18 months in and can say this was life changing for my wife and I. Although synthetic it will become yours within a year and you will make the adjustment so it becomes a natural part of your life. Btw you will never again have a failure after lift off.

Been there. Done that. Was that. (except I skipped injections)

My ED came on slowly and I did not recognize it at first:

For a LONG time I was plagued by the nagging anxiety of the questions,

"Will I stay hard long enough to please her?" then,

"Will I stay hard enough to have an orgasm myself?",

"Will I get hard enough to even get inside her?"

and ultimately the near certainty,

"You will not even GET hard." And that NEAR certainty was worse than a certainty.

But then I got an implant....because there was nothing worth going back to if the operation failed.

Ultimately the anxiety of, "Will I stay hard?" is gone, (not to mention the anxiety in the back of HER mind, "Will HE stay hard long enough for me to have even ONE orgasm?"). With my implant, sex can be as carefree, spontaneous and playful as can be.

And during sex, I don't concentrate on keeping my erection. I am free to concentrate on pleasing my partner, making the most of an erection with staying power, concentrate on how it feels to her and concentrate on being the kind of considerate man IN BED as I try to be OUT OF BED that makes us (her and me) happy with each other.

Remember, Implant does not cure E.D. It guarantees 100% impotence until you inflate.

If you had a hand that did not grip well, would you cut it off for replacement with a prosthetic hand? If you could struggle through a 15 minute mile on your own feet, would you opt for prosthetic feet that enabled a 4 minute mile, but if (when) they failed, would leave you in a wheelchair until you have another surgery?

Implant is not a cure. It is a treatment. A very good one, but not a cure. A natural erection if far superior in many ways, so if a treatment that is less invasive, destructive and flawed than an implant will work for you, take it. Most treatments do not leave you permanently changed as an implant does. But if NOTHING is available, then do consider an implant. I did and am the happier for it.

Now, a homily: Men approaching mid-life often have a crisis and ED does exacerbate that crisis state.

The prototypical trope of the treatment of this mid-life crisis is to buy a fancy car.

Typically such a fancy car will cost about the same as a penile implant and have a service life about as long.

So, take your choice.

Note that medical insurance will not pay for a car.

Note also that neither will cure relationship problems all by themselves.
