Prolactin and ED

Postby Spontaneous1 » Sun Aug 29, 2021 9:06 pm

How many here have actually found they have had high levels of Prolactin, and had treatment for that solve their ED issues?
I began having minor issues in the Fall of 2019, never having had any issues before that. As time has progressed the physical and psychological impact of it has increased also, now it seems to be affecting my sensitivity too. Before I would almost have a problem with PE, but no more. I'm 63, in good physical health, don't smoke, occasionally have a beer, exercise both with weights and cycling (not too much that that's the problem) 3-4 days a week for the past 30 years. I haven't been able to lift heavy weights the last two years because of rotator cuff issues, but I still do lift. I do have hypothyroidism from Hashimoto's Disease that has been well regulated (numbers in normal range according to them) since I started treatment for it over 5 years ago. I've tried Cialis and Viagra, and while both will work about 80% I don't like taking them because of the side effects. My free testosterone is 390, all my other blood work is great, blood pressure is good, and PSA numbers are good as was the actual "hands on" physical examination. I'm at a total loss for the cause of this, and the only blood test I've not had done is a Prolactin level. Does anyone have experience with this?

Prolactin could be an issue as far as I know. Don't overthink about it because you haven't tested it yet.

Unlikely but possible. Usually associated with a tumor in the pituitary causing excessive prolactin production. These tumors are not usually life threatening, but can cause all sorts of hormonal problems. Testosterone can also be dramatically affected. Doctors usually test for this when you present with ED just to rule it out.

Never been tested for it that I know of. With this Hashimoto's Disease I have to wonder what other things it could affect, but you know how doctors are, you have to drag them into doing certain blood tests.

Yes, thyroid issues can definitely affect sexual function from what I have read along the way. Many doctors are just not very good at sexual function issues. I don't think they get a lot of training in that area unless they go out of their way to learn about it or if they specialise in sexual medicine which seems to be a slightly alternative medical discipline.
