Magnesium Supplementation? What kind?

Postby BrokenPiston » Fri Oct 29, 2021 9:27 am

Has anybody tried to figure out the best magnesium supplement to take?

This could be a longer shot, but could be relevant to me. If you supplement with vitamin D, you may be depleting available magnesium, which in turn could suppress nitric oxide and constrict vessels.

Not all magnesium supplement formulations are created equal as far as absorbability goes... the most common is magnesium oxide and is the worst in that regard. I'm trying to see if I can get my magnesium levels tested. While I could just start taking it, I'm curious in actually knowing what my measured levels are. The level testing is imperfect - you could test normal and underlying still be deficient, though I think if you DO throw deficient you're deficient.

Research is scant but seems plausible. For your reading pleasure:

Magnesium Citrate is a good inexpensive option. When taking with calcium, the citrate in magnesium reacts with the calcium to form calcium citrate which is soluble in water and therefore mitigate the risk of developing some kidney stones

This, or a similar ingredient supplement, is a good choice.

Thx. That one is good if you want to blend magnesiums (has three, maybe you do) and/but also has D/zinc. This one has 5 forms and no other ingredients: https://www.amazon.com/Terranics-Magnesium-Broad-Spectrum-Absorption-Relaxation/dp/B07SSWKMBN/.

Broken Piston that one looks good too. I like that it has the Vitamin D with it, don't have to take an extra pill that way. Living in the Northeast we need extra D. I also like that it had some, but not a lot of supplemental zinc also. Thanks.

I've mentioned Seredyn several times on these forums.

It is a natural supplement for the treatment of anxiety and it could be helpful in cases of sexual performance anxiety.

Seredyn includes the following ingredients: L-Theanine, Passion flower, Valerian, Niacinamide (200 mg), magnesium taurinate (14 mg), gelatin, rice powder, and magnesium stearate.

I use Seredyn as needed and take two pills one hour before sex, in combination with a PDE-5 inhibitor.
