Defiant:
I’m guessing from your spelling of etiology (aetiology) that you’re probably not in west central Texas. In fact, if I had to guess I’d say somewhere in Europe, perhaps the UK.
I wanted to pass along a thought, I’m not condemning government provided health care. From past posts people know I’m not an advocate of it. But this is more of an observation than a condemnation.
I think it highly likely that your sexual health specialist was negativistic towards implants because, frankly, they cost a good bit of money. A NHS or similar government provided health care provider gets a budget. It’s a zero sum game. If they spend a bunch of money and do a surgery on this one fellow, there may be dozens of guys who have to wait until next year for their appointment or procedure.
To me, it makes the most sense to steer a younger guy (for whom pills or shots have proven unsatisfactory) towards an implant because he’s younger, is likely to use it more, and it’s just wrong to deprive a younger guy of a lot of sex.
That being said, folks who think that a switch goes off when a guy gets old and he magically doesn’t care about sex anymore….they’re sadly mistaken. You get the kids grown and out of the house, you no longer run the risk of more kids, well…..things can get wild.
The bottom line is if you’ve done your due diligence, and you think someone is giving you bad advice trying to steer you towards a specific treatment which might not be the right thing for you….you are probably right.

Re: “It doesn’t feel like a real erection”
I’m too early to tell 11 days but one thing I know for sure is that therapists, especially female, feel threatened by pills and implants bc it threatens there business. It’s kind of like, “how dare you find a simple solution instead of working through your problems” God forbid there should be a simple non therapeutic answer to your problem. But maybe I’m wrong lol.
Re: “It doesn’t feel like a real erection”
.she has tried to steer me away from seeking out an implant quoting that they don’t feel like the real thing.
Agree that this is like telling a person who needs a knee joint replacement that it is not like a real knee joint.
That is true if you compare the knee replacement to a healthy good knee. But, if you suffer from arthritis so bad that you cannot go hiking and can barely get up the stairs, the knee replacement is a hundred times better than the natural knee. This analogy holds up for the penile implant. If your natural dick is crap, then the implanted dick will be a 100 times better. For me, it does feel like a natural erection, but that is because I have no capability of getting a natural erection by becoming turned on. I do not "miss" my crappy ED dick at all; and I do not "miss" sex using that crappy dick, thus, I welcome wholeheartedly my fake erections--it was a very major upgrade.
So, your therapist has a point, you must realize the following:
(1) if you yearn for the times when you were 18 and you played with a pretty girl and your cock engorged and stood straight and firm, and only got more straight and firm as things heated up, then you will be disappointed (since you have to pump to get yourself there).
Also,
(2) If you and your lover look at the spontaneous appearance of an erection as something that validates your sexual prowess as a man, and also validates her sexual attractiveness as a woman, then you will be disappointed. (since the hardness of the implent erection has noting to do with her level of hotness or your level of desire)
For me, natural erection is impossible, so I love the implant erection, and I agree with those on here that it has some advantages over a natural erection (100% reliable, 100% hard, 100% last long enough). For me, now four years out, it feels as good as a natural erection. So, for me, if I were speaking to that therapist, then yes, the therapist is wrong.
Consider reading chapter 2 which discusses the psychological mindset needed before going to an implant and chapter 6 which discusses issues on how to decide on an implant and also chapter 14 where I talk about it being a fake erection. These are in my implant pamphlet located at:
https://www.franktalk.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16298&p=146385&hilit=wiki#p146385
All in all, agree that if you are impotent, the implant is far better, and I like the "feel of an implant erection" much more than the feel of the tenuous, fickle, and anxiety provoking ED erection

I've said it before & I'll say it again. I'm very sure that women don't understand erections. This lady is just one more example proving my opinion.
I find it strange that the young doctor seems to feel like Viagra is addictive & leads to dependency. Little does he know how ED works. Odds are that he'll find out one day.
Like most of us. I have had body parts fail. I wear glasses, have dental fillings & some crowns. Modern medicine goes to great lengths to get these repairs to be as close to original as possible. Yes, wearing glasses has a down side. My crowns can be seen fairly easily. But they are better than not having them. Why on earth would a penile implant not be better than suffering from the effects of the condition that caused its need?

Re: “It doesn’t feel like a real erection”
Does my implant feel like my natural hard on before I had ED? No.
Is my implant far superior to what I had a little over 13 months ago? Absolutely.
Implants have a much higher satisfaction rate than pills, pumps, or injections for both the men getting the implants and their partners.
I don't know why your specialist is trying to steer you away from an implant. I see that, like me, you've had ED for a long time; pills are starting to lose effectiveness; and you're suffering mentally and emotionally from your ED.
As soon as I learned about implants, I knew that was the best treatment for me. You have many years ahead to be sexually active. If you can make it work, an implant may be the best treatment for your ED, too.

Is she say it doesn't feel like a natural erection from a woman's point of view? I don't see how she'd have a point of reference from a man's point of view.
No mine doesn't feel exactly like a blood filled dick did but I didn't have that anymore and it's close enough for me. It can also do things that a natural dick can't.

Re: “It doesn’t feel like a real erection”
An implant is not a cure for ED .. It is a treatment. A VERY EFFECTIVE one. No - it doesn't feel EXACTLY like your hard-on dick did when you were 18 years old ... but it works and feels great.
Comparing an implant to a working dick is irrelevant and beside the point if you don't currently have a working dick. A bionic dick properly installed by a competent surgeon is 100% better than a noodly dick that doesn't work any day of the week including Sunday.

"I felt like her tone was one of someone who thinks of the implant negatively and that it has negative outcomes. Maybe she just didn’t agree with someone my age and aetiology getting one."
I think I would hesitate having her do my implant! I would wonder if she would have a ho hum attitude during and not be aggressive to size etc. The urologist that did mine (woman) gave me and my wife the feeling she really wanted to help where she could.
On the other side of the coin, that afternoon my mummy wrap came loose and the nurse just removed it. Because it should have been wrapped till the next morning I asked about rewrapping and her response made me wonder if she was really wanting to help.
My penis does feel different after the implant (flaccid) but pumped it feels quite natural. And it works!
