Hiya is there anyone in the uk had an implant done on the NHS. If you have what was the criteria you had to meet before being offered one. Also if implants are available on the NHS what implants are used
Rich.

Implants in the uk
I had a RP in 2016 and a year later My psa started to rise resulting in having 37 sections of radio therapy. 2021 Testosterone replacement stopped due to psa rising again. Oncologist says most likely coming from a malignant source. I am at my wits end.
Re: Implants in the uk
Hi you will need to be end stage I.e. others forms of treatment pills injections etc not working. Your consultant can then make a request to the CCG to fund your implant.
As with any elective surgery it’s a long wait with the NHS
I think different models are used but mine was the Zephyr which you can google / it’s cheaper than AMX and Titan surprise surprise
You won’t get to choose your surgeon
All in all I wish I’d gone private probably with Dr Ralph who everyone seems to recommend in London
I know it’s a lot of money, but it’s such a big step to take it’s worth the investment to get better quality care and treatment

Re: Implants in the uk
To be honest it really depends IMO on WHY you want or need the implant.
I have quite a severe case of Peyronies, with a 75 degree dorsal curve, which makes penetration near impossible and results in often but not always weaker erections. Additionally i am acutely aware that the longer I leave it the more size I will lose so for me going privately with a 2 month wait was a no brainer compared to a 18 month wait on the NHS.
It is also very important to choose the right surgeon. To have a life changing operation, which, if done incorrectly, could lead to all sorts of issues and not being able to choose your surgeon is far from ideal. I saw four urologists before I found Mike Fraser in Glasgow. My operation is scheduled for four weeks time.
FYI, I am paying £13,250 + £79 for a Covid test and all being well i will be implanted with a Titan three piece.
I never investigated the NHS criteria, but i would suspect you would have to prove you have tried both pills and injections and you will likely have to have a 6-12 month follow up prior to even being considered, unless you are lucky enough to know someone quite high up in your NHS healthcare area.

Implanted by Mike Fraser in feb 2022 due to a 80 degree dorsal curvature. 18cm Titan - way undersized. 8’ pre Peyronies, 6’ pre implant - currently 6’.
Re: Implants in the uk
I had implant 6 weeks ago with Prof David Ralph. I initially paid private to see him £350. After the consultation he gave me the option to have it done privately or via NHS. I initially opted for NHS but then decided to go private due to the waiting list on NHS ( At least a year).
Cost was £14000. Highly recommend prof Ralph.

Re: Implants in the uk
I along, with Stobhill on here, can vouch for Mike Fraser in Glasgow. The man is as loved and respected as he is for a reason.
I was pointed in his direction by his peers, he's that skilled, and first class man in general.

I second leroastbeef.
I've had a rigicon implant. I'm sure it works very well it's just that i got a broken one.
Now i have a Boston Scientific. The jury is still out on this one.

Started with Peyronies that resulted in a 90° angle.
Currently Boston Scientific AMS 700 LGX 22cm (18cm with extensions) 100ml reservoir. 25/10/2021
Previously: Rigicon 10 ax implant, with 22cm cylinders, 110ml reservoir. 10/05/2021 and attempted repair on 28/06/2021.

Why what’s wrong with it?
Re: Implants in the uk
The cylinders are not extending the same length.
Having said that, even when deflated they are not at the same length.
This means that, when inflated, the left side is halfway into my glands and the right side is just about outside.
There is about 1 cm difference.
I've emailed my surgeon and he gets back from holiday on Monday.

Re: Implants in the uk
Stobhill, he was probably busy operating on me Monday morning !
I’m glad I chose Mike, so far so good!
And I don’t think he was on holiday, he hurt his ankle apparently and was in an oxybaric chamber to recover quickly!

Hi jimmi85,
I still remember the early days, so happy to help if i can.
Mr Fraser is a great guy and i have a lot of respect for him. Everyone i know (leroastbeef for example) thinks the same.
Sorry to hear of his injury.
I'm seeing him next Thursday (all being well) and I'll not say anything unless he does.
