How impotent were you from prostatectomy?

Postby TwoStep » Sat Jan 15, 2022 12:51 pm

I always imagined that prostatectomy left patients with the most severe ED possible, but lately I’ve come to realize that quite a few people go on to have some kind of erection using just pills after their RP, even if insufficient or unreliable for intercourse.

Are there any here who had complete erectile failure such that after prostatectomy you’ve never once had an erection by stimulating the penis, even with 100 mg viagra?

I'm sorry to say I fit that description. Mono-mix (Alprostadil AKA PGE1) injections work well but pills are a total failure as a primary therapy.

I had my prostate removed in 2019. I also fit in that group. I also suffer from incontinence as well.

Would love to hear responses from all the prostate cancer survivors who elected a prostatectomy as their treatment.

My robotic prostatectomy was in October 2018 (3 years and 3 months ago). I was unable to achieve an erection with 100mg sildenafil (viagra) three months after surgery. Today, I could coax a pretty decent hard-on with a 20mg dose. Time has improved my erection quality quite a bit, but it's nowhere near pre-surgery level (I needed no pills, VEDs, injecttions -- nothing -- to be hard and perform in bed back then). I inject 20units of trimix for sex these days. I have not tried a 100mg sildenafil dose in a couple years.

After my prostatectomy I had ED & the PD went from 30% to 70%. I was told my doctor before the surgery that is you have Ed before the surgery that there was a 50% chance of biagra working after the suregery.

3 years post robotic surgery. Nothing worked after, including tri and quadmix. VED and potential implant only solution. Still some incontinence but it has slowly improved.

2016 RP. Drugs don't work so I use Bimix. Still have incontinence and anorgasmia.
Retired. R.P. 2016. Bilateral nerve sparing surgery. Now use .15cc of Bimix twice weekly & anorgasmia, moderately incontinent. Wife no longer interested so go solo with Electro-stim using Erostek ET-312. Now am Type 2 diabetic.

I was 75 when I had the RARP. I am an active sports man that can out hike/hunt most 55 yr old guys. I had a very active sex life with my wife. Told the doc all of this. SEX is important to me. It was supposed to be organ contained. Small amount of G 3+4=7. ASSHOLE said I may need daily Cialis. Then 3 months after RP, ASSHOLE say by the way I removed ALL your nerves. Here is the # of our implant specialist. Also have incontinence bad enough to get an AUS installed. 2 pads a day and non stop flow if I am drinking. Now have 4 nuts. City of Hope in Los Angeles , where ASSHOLE works, says they treat the whole person. For me they Fu__ up my whole person. I used USC/Keck for implant and AUS. Should have used USC for PC, probably would have not needed the implant.

I had nerve sparing one side but had complete ED after the prostatectomy. Before the surgery no ED at all. I used injections which worked but with bad pain and PD developed. I did not get any response from 100mgm viagra even 3 years after the surgery and went for the implant. After about 4- 5 years I found myself waking at night with a partial erection, not serviceable but definitely showed that what nerves had been left had recovered. Now use 100mgm viagra with the implant to get full engorgement of my glans and improved sensitivity
The implant was the right decision and in hindsight I should have had one soon after the prostatectomy and avoid the injection related problems. At the time I read the statistics on recovery from ED after prostectomy and was hopeful, but I suspect they are overstated and misleading.
2011 RP, nerve sparing 1 side, Gleeson score 7. Injections with Caverject 5mgm caused severe pain, Trimix resulted in PD. Implant 2014 AMS LGX 18cm +2cm rte. Revision 2021, AMS LGX 18cm + 2cm rte

RPP in Jan 2020, so it’s been 2 yrs and cancer free.

Short answer… completely impotent; no blood flow or morning wood, and normally turtle headed hiding. I think a better question is: who has recovered from RPP and how long did it take?

Six months after surgery I tried cialis for a few months- expensive but no results at all.
Then tried VED for a few months and hated it.
I’ve been on trimix for about a year. I don’t like it, but it works.
I hope I never have to consider an implant.

Many guys on here report their wood came back after a couple years. I’m hopeful this happens to me. However, my uro said that most of his patients recover in a year, but if I haven’t found any wood then I probably never will.
Born in the last century and RPP in 2020. Started trimix in Mar 2021. Implanted with AMS700 LGX + Tenacio pump in Nov 2024.
