30yo, just had a doppler and doctor told me implant was inevitable - advice welcome

Hi all

After hearing about venous leakage I decided to book a doppler ultrasound to rule out any physical causes for my ED. Being fairly young and in good shape I assumed it was all in my head, however after the injection failed to muster a semi my doctor told me I had severe vasculogenic ED and that at some point in my future an implant is inevitable. He's prescribed me some pills (already failed to maintain an erection on 5mg Cialis) and if they don't work we'll talk about an implant in our follow up appointment in a few weeks.

Overall I'm a little panicked about the surgery and prospect of an implant, at the same time its a relief to know theres a final solution to my issues. I have a few q's about it all:

- How does arousal feel with a flaccid implant? Is there any sensation in the penis as you become aroused or is there nothing until you pump up?

- How have you found exercise since being implanted? I lift weights fairly regularly and train MMA, I will likely have to drop the latter as my doctor said to avoid impact to the crotch area which is disappointing. Does anyone have experience of lifting post-surgery?

- What's a good cover for your recovery period? I'm not planning on sharing this with anyone for the moment, what would explain two weeks of resting time to my employer/housemates/etc?

- How does it feel to continue having sex after ejaculation with an implant? Is there any stimulation for you or is it solely for your partners pleasure?

- How long post-implant were you able to engage in sexual activity? I've seen everything from three weeks to three months.

- How long post-implant were you able to get off pain meds? Again I've seen everything from weeks to months.

- How long post-implant did it take for you to psychologically get used to the implant as being part of 'you' and your body?

Do some research on here it’s a great source!Also ask about good implant surgeons in your area on here!Find someone who does a good volume,in my opinion at least 50/yr. and you’re do good!Had mine about 14 months and love it!Good luck!

5 mg cialis is very weak. Try 100 mg viagra before giving up on what you have. And I’d advise trying it with an open mind, don’t tell yourself that it can’t be working because intuition says that vascular problems can’t be helped by a pill.

Here's my answers.
At first there was no effect from arousal. Now there is a slight tingle in my penis as we warm up.
I'm not an exerciser, but I'd say start slow. I was told no more than 20# for 6 months.
Told my family and friends it was a cyst on my testicle.
After ejaculating the feeling of being able to keep going as long as I want is great. I get some very good sensations even after, and also being able to lay there still inside and not worrying about falling out.
First sex was about 6 weeks post. Will admit I got too rambunctious and hurt after. It took a couple of months to be able to do it without discomfort.
Took pain meds for maybe 10 days, but they weren't helping so quit them. Still quite sore so I used Aspercream on my shaft, and some marijuana for general pain.
It took me 6 to 8 months to get used to the new equipment. Sleeping at first was horrible because I'm used to sleeping on my stomach. Not with an implant! Now at 2+ years out it is like a part of me. Love not having to worry about popping a pill or having to go inject.

Definitely try 100mg Viagra as a next step. The penile doppler injection didn't work for me either, but I'm still doing well with 100mg Viagra so continuing with that for now. My advice would be to take it during the night and see if you have any morning wood returning.

I didn’t have a lot of choice about doctors or the type of implant, I’m retired Air Force and I had mine done at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas

It is a lot to take it and prepare for but it has been worth it.

I advise you get a second opinion as well. depending on the dosage of the injection or if you were very nervous it can affect the results of your doppler. Get another urologist's, preferably a honest and ethical surgeon (I know a well known one in nyc), second opinion before choosing the irreversible path.

Penile Doppler ultrasounds for the diagnosis of erectile function are the absolute worst test there is. So many factors at play that affect the outcome. I’ve had several and got wildly divergent diagnoses. He probably used the min dosage plus you’ll have likely been nervous. A Nocturnal Penile Tumescence test is much more beneficial.

My implant specialist told me that if you don't respond to injections and the doppler shows an organic issue in the penis, then an implant is really the only feasible option left. Typically pills would be prescribed before resorting to injection, so kinda surprised your doc still prescribed it after the injection didn't elicit a response.

We're basically in the same boat. I'm 31 and didn't respond to bimix, and doppler showed i have arterial insufficiency. Taking the plunge and getting implanted on February 15th.

I can understand wanting testing done as a younger man. But in the big picture. If pills or injections don't work. Does it really matter what/if a cause is found. If most of the tools that the urology medical field have failed. What else is there to do?
I see members report to having turned the internet upside down looking for hints of new treatment. I don't see any on the horizon.
Even if a small clue is found. It needs to be researched, tested & studied ad nauseam. Then, at least in the case of drugs, the drug companies feel like a one day erection is worth a lot of money.
Can someone please point to an ED cause that is diagnosed by testing that can be fixed by something other that the current medical protocols? I.E. drugs & injections.
