Surgery: going solo

Postby helloworld » Mon Mar 07, 2022 12:21 pm

Hi folks, I hope you're well.

Sorry to bombard you with so many questions.
As mentioned in another thread, I'm starting to consider the option of an implant at some point in 2022 (preferably with Dr Eid).

I'm single and I live in NYC on my own, but my family lives abroad.

I prefer not to share the new about the surgery with anyone, as it's a private matter. I also don't want my family to suffer seeing me going through this.

Questions:

- How dangerous would it be to do this procedure on my own?
- How disruptive is this operation for work? I work in IT and might have some flexibility to work from home (or even combining one week of vacation and one week WFH).
- This one is especially for younger folks: did you tell your parents about it?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi helloworld

I’m 37 tomorrow and had mine 3 weeks ago today. I kept my Peyronies to
Myself for over two years and it ate me inside. Last feb I asked my dad about my private medical
Insurance and he obviously asked what was wrong. We went for a pint and I told him what I was going through. I then told my mum, sister, some work colleagues and most of my female friends.

I am so glad I did, it has made me feel not alone. I did thane a partner up until the new year but that broke down due to the sex. She was all for the implant but won’t get the joys of being with me anymore. I have also started to date and always mention my implant within a few messages - I’ve had nothing but positive responses.

I am not embarrassed by it, I was not impotent, I just broke my penis during sex and it healed incorrectly. In 6 weeks time I should be able to be harder than any non bionic man and go for longer than any non bionic man.

Tell your family, it is only a 45 minute surgery, yes the recovery is long but they don’t need to know this.

As for work I went back after 2 weeks but am not wearing a suit yet and can’t sit on a chair properly so I am lying on the floor in a back office.
Implanted by Mike Fraser in feb 2022 due to a 80 degree dorsal curvature. 18cm Titan - way undersized. 8’ pre Peyronies, 6’ pre implant - currently 6’.

All good questions. You will need a friend or escort service to take you home after the procedure. Other than that, you should be able to do all else on your own. (they have an escort service if you need one)
Re work, all I can say is that I was comfortable sitting in 3 days and could have started working from home again no problem -- but consult with Eid.
Too old to comment on the parents question. I did manage, with my wife's help, to keep my daughters from finding out that Dad was gone for a week 8-)

I was pretty much on my own after the 3rd day. Sitting was tough for a month for me, but I'm a slow healer and much older. Unless you stay in the hospital overnight they do require you to have a driver.
As far as family none know what I had done except my wife. They were all told I had a growth on a testicle that had to be removed. Made my big bad ass son-in-law squirm with that story, LOL. Only parent alive is mother-in-law and she was told the same story.

Hey
I am in similar situation like you. I am single. I am 30 years old.
I will have my implant in next month. Surgery will be 300 km from
my home City. I asked about going solo to Surgery in Another topic
and some members advised Against it. My family and friends don't
Know about my situation. Only know my closest friend. I decided to
ask her about picking me up after Surgery and she agreed.
But i will keep it a Secret from family and rest of people.

I had my operation 6 weeks ago with Dr Clavell and was completely solo, didn't tell anyone in my family. Flew to Houston the night before, had the surgery the next morning, which gave me several hours to recover from anesthesia until I felt clear-headed and coordinated enough to get an uber to my airbnb. I don't think having someone around during recovery would have provided any meaningful benefit, unless they could get up to urinate on my behalf so I wouldn't have to interrupt my sleep.

I got the impression that it was rare to be a true solo patient, but that I was far from the first, and no big deal was made about it other than my doctor needing to add a note to my file.

@helloworld I know exactly what you're talking about in regards to not telling family, I know my parents would hurt to know what I was going through. I'm not ashamed of having had ED or needing to get this implant, but I don't want pity. When I've been able to use the implant and can say from personal experience that being bionic is better than natural, I'll tell them about the surgery.

Mid 30’s. ED since early 20’s. Pharmaceuticals were helpful initially, but stopped working. Implanted with Titan 22cm -.5cm (no RTEs) by Dr. Clavell 1/26/2022.

Going home completely alone after surgery is dangerous. I had a good friend at 55 die 1 day after a hernia surgery home alone. They thought for some reason she went into shock. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks folks, I agree there's a risk in going solo, but it is true that many folks did it on their own as well.

@SearchingUSA: qq - how long did it take for you to go back to work after the surgery?

Thank you.

Do Eid provide assistance at the hotel the day after if requested?
I mean a nurse, an assistant or sort of if you stay in NY/Manhattan.

I have read accounts on FT of Eid coming to the hotel to help someone. You are given his cell number as well as his assistant's Sylvia who has been with him 20 years. Stay at the Affinia across from the hospital where it will be convenient for them -- their office is not far away either. My experience was that I was just laying out flat and icing the day after -- but I suppose one could have troublesome enough issues to need help. They are a very caring group was my experience.
