Would love to see a before and after pic to see how well it works!

Why were you prescribed Nitro-BID? For ED? Or for angina (chest pain r/t coronary artery disease)? Or for some other reason?

Nitroglycerin paste is a serious medication and needs to be treated with respect. Although medication are often given for “off-label” uses, those decisions should be made in conjunction with the prescribing physician.

The mucus membranes lining the vagina, mouth, and rectum are far better at absorbing medications into the bloodstream than the skin on the exterior of the penis. So unless you wear a condom you will actually be giving your partner a higher dose of nitroglycerin than you are getting. Wearing a condom seems like an absolute necessity. Of course your doc should guide you here as well.

Goodwood -- while you sound to be a medical expert which I am certainly not, I would just say that in all my googling about using Nitro Bid for ED, I have yet to see a reference to needing to wear a condom. Do you have a reference for this caution?

I read a large sturdy in the Journal of Sexual Medicine which, among their positive conclusions, stated this about effects of Nitro Bid on female partners:

The incidence of adverse events in female partners was extremely low (4 treatment-related mild adverse events, including 2 mild headaches, in 1,003 intercourse attempts), indicating that there is little or no transference of GTN to the female partner during intercourse or during application of the gel by the female partner. Indeed, more than 300 applications of MED2005 were performed by the patient’s partner. There were no treatment-related partner side effects such as pain or burning on urination.

If you were prescribed the Nitro for any reason OTHER than applying it to your penis for ED, check with the prescribing physician before you proceed.

I received the Nitro Bid (cost me $7 with insurance) and just tried it out. I inflated then only used a very small pea sized portion rubbing it on my glans and shaft.

At first I got a bit of a "hot sauce" sensation which dissipated.

Then after about 10 minutes I got some glans engorgement -- it wasn't OMG! but it was significant compared to no engorgement. Next time I will use a slightly larger amount.

It seemed nearly comparable to VEDing to me, only less trouble.

Does anyone know the Canadian version allowed as the Nitro=Bid and how you got it prescribed?

I saw my urologist last week and although he had never done so before, he agreed to prescribe NitroBid 2% ointment for me after I explained the anecdotal accounts of my bionic brothers here on FrankTalk. BTW, Dr. Jonathan Beilan, MD in Largo, FL implanted my AMS CX and I can't say enough good things about him and his surgical skill.

My insurance paid for the NitroBid 2% oint with no issues. Since I had my IPP surgery this year, all my deductibles and out of pocket expenses were paid so my copay was $0. :D Wearing surgical gloves, I applied a pea sized amount to the glans only. No burning or discomfort. The results were beyond amazing. Glans and penis engorged like I had used my VED and it lasted for a couple of hours. Downside was the classic nitroglycerin side effect of headache, even with that small amount of ointment.

I'm definitely going to try it again with a smaller amount of ointment. I will probably pre-treat myself with Tylenol or Advil to hopefully reduce or eliminate the headache.

For my Canadian bionic brothers, Nitrol (nitroglycerin) 2% ointment, the equivalent to Nitrobid 2% has been discontinued by the Canadian manufacturer. Rectiv (nitroglycerin) 0.4% ointment is still available in Canada but is approximately one-fourth the strength of the 2% ointment. Might be worth a try.

Thank you very much MrMann! 8-)

Have any not yet bionic brothers tried it and had success?
