My kids are young adults, so I can't speak from experience. But I think Lost Sheep has good advice on how to talk with your son about your implant. Would you be concerned about him innocently sharing details with adults you may not want to know--teachers, friends' parents, etc.?

You will have to be careful physically for the first couple of weeks, at least. Picking your son up will definitely be out. Letting him sit on your lap and hug you probably shouldn't happen either. If he moves around a lot at night, you may not want him in bed with you because a knee or elbow to the groin will really hurt and may cause damage.

I would ask your doctor for guidance on the physical aspect of living with your son if I were you.

I am getting my implant done on May 17th. I have a 7 year old and he sleeps with us( me and my wife). Question how do you handle situations with small children- What did you do or didnt do ( did u sleep alone until recovery). How do you hide it from them? My son is very inquisitive and also very attached to me wonder how to keep him away and out of his eyes. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have a 5yr old daughter and she too occasionally sleeps in our bed etc. What I found from both the first surgery last year and the latest revision is for the first couple of weeks at least, when its looking all bruised and battered, I was wearing underwear all the time with it pointing upwards, so it was mostly concealed anyway. Given that it is during this period that I am most concerned about it being hurt and her seeing it in this state, if she did want to sleep in the bed I would go to the spare room and I would lock the door for showering etc. Also I explained that any rough play was off limits as I was very sore from having an operation.
Those first couple of weeks was probably the only time I was deliberately preventing her from seeing it because I didnt want to freak her out. Its a balancing act though because kids are very inquisitive and if they detect that something is going on then it makes them even more curious and determined to get to the bottom of it!!

Once I was looking more normal again I didnt really do anything differently - she knows I had to have surgery because I had an issue in my lower tummy area, if she sees me in the shower or getting dressed its no big deal, but I would try to avoid drawing any attention to the incision or that it was specifically my penis that was worked on.

I think its important to be open and honest in a family environment, but you do have to keep in mind that whatever you feel comfortable enough sharing with your child may also be happily shared with school friends and ultimately get back to other adults which could make things awkward depending upon who they are.

Thanks for asking this important question. Most on this subject (how to tell someone) tend to focus on adult children, co-workers and potential sexual partners. Asking about small children is valuable.

Same way you handle explaining the miracle of childbirth (the "Birds and Bees" talk and the subject of death). As much as their little minds can understand, in timy increments, as the child inquires is the typical guideline.

You have almost a month to open the conversation, preparing him for the event. Baby steps. Ease into it.[/quote]

Thank you so much for the invaluable inputs. Makes a lot of sense. I will follow your inputs. Its so funny we take shower sometimes and he asks me why is my dick big and his small

I'm not a parent myself, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But seven seems a tad old to be sleeping in his parents' bed on a nightly basis. Aside from the possibility of his noticing something amiss with your anatomy, I assume you're going to want to ratchet up the intimacy with your wife once you heal and get the green light from your doctor. That won't be easy if you're going to sleep every night and waking up every morning with a seven year old wedged between the two of you. Then there is the entirety separate issue of building independence and self-reliance in your kid, which, in my opinion at least, is a major chink in the armor of the generation currently coming of age. All of this is to say that the implant might provide a golden opportunity to teach your kid how to sleep alone.

Totally agree with you. Its part of our culture though( I slept with my parents until I was like 20 lol but that was because we had only 1 bedroom.. But yes we need to figure out a way( maybe when he is out in school or go to a different room have fun and then come back while we figure out long term option of moving into a different room for his own independence like you said.

100% true sir. Every situation every family every child is unique. Mine is a very inquisitive one and doesnt shy away from asking deep personal questions that put you to shame..

Agreed. The problem is also because of we sleep together and how close we are.. now atleast until I recover I need to stay away from him so he is get all ballistic on me.. and maybe he sees a big erect dick over the clothes( need to figure out how to conceal that - then he will ask me why am I wearing big clothes he questions a LOT!

Big family here (brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces). I have slept with all ages. DO NOT sleep with the 7 y/o if you value your life, lol. I have slept and found a foot in my face, a crotch, another face, butt.
You will have to sleep on your back right after surgery, probably with a catheter and bag. You will need to sleep alone for a while. The catheter will come out day after, but recovery will be a while.
He will ask questions, just answer generally (you had to have your dick fixed, lol), but for the physical stuff, play by ear and stay away from kid when its bedtime!

Makes sense. I am teaching him slowly to be independent and sleep alone. He prefers sleeping with me and I need to make him sleep  But yes I am going to sleep alone for a while and that will raise a lot of questions from him. But I will play it by the ear..

Yes all those are my concerns. I will be sleeping alone in the 1st floor( we have a bedroom down) to avoid any mishaps
