Do young implantees feel that they’re on borrowed time?

Although I tried lots of different treatments, I wonder if I could have done more to resolve my problems with ED. I see implants as being the last resort when nothing else works. I think the constant struggle with sex wore on me to the point where I made a rash decision.

After pills and injections stopped working you have not very much choice if you want to continue with penile sex.

So, let me pose this question: If your implant was a one-and-done deal (no replacement possible) and guaranteed to last 5 years and then quit. Essentially this guarantees you can have sex for five years, period

A: From age 52 to 57 and never again for the rest of your life.
B: From age 60 to 65 and never again for the rest of your life.
C: From age 65 to 70 and never again for the rest of your life.
D: From age 70 to 75 and never again for the rest of your life.
and so forth.

What would you choose?

Now, factor in the fact that complication-free revisions ARE possible. And that you may die of an automobile accident before you get to use choices B through D.

As for me, the day I found that an implant was possible for me, my choice was made. The only delay was making sure my choice of venue and surgeon would give me the best outcome.

Sorry to hear that you are going thru it but if it helps, it is way too early to judge your outcome. Even a strained muscle or tendon in the gym can take months to feel better. I get the impression a lot of guys were lucky enough to never have had any kind of bothersome lifting injury or operation and have unrealistic healing expectations. A varicocele repair, much more minor than this operation, as a teenager left me hardly able to move at all for a month or two because of the incredible pain. I could hardly breathe. The stress of the pain caused a depression that lasted a few months longer. That was before opioids were used and it sounds like you are at least doing better than that.

Hopefully your current state of mind improves quickly, but I’m very worried I’ll feel the same way do you now after surgery if I choose to do it. I was able to get a decent erection for masturbation the other day for the second time this year, so should I try to keep building on that? It took 3 dick pills on top of each other to achieve that though, and I havent been able to reproduce it since, but since it happened once or twice this year maybe some working plumbing is still there to be salvaged. I probably don’t have the time for that since life goes on and passes you by.

The other option is to keep my body intact and retire from sex. That has been the state of affairs since January 2021 waiting for things to get better. But loneliness also kills.

To the OP, if you check signatures, you will get an idea of which implant surgeons’ work tends to require revisions.

Some surgeons revise a lot. There is at least one I’ve noticed who almost never seems to need revisions. One conclusion is that he mostly does it right the first time, though I don’t know if that is true.

Looking at this site, this seems to be very common within the first 3 months, and seems to go away once the member heals and starts using it.

I am hoping that my buyer's remorse goes away once I can start using. However, I wish I did more research since there are so many drawbacks.

Wait a minute. You've been a member for 28 months. The "buyer remorse" phase has been discussed many times. You've had some appointments with your surgeon. Hopefully you asked him questions. You seem to of been well informed.
Seems to me like you're experiencing a bad case of typical buyers remorse. It'll pass. Follow your doctors instructions & lets revisit these feelings in 3-4 months. 19 days is way too early to form a negative opinion.

To answer the original question: no, even knowing that at 36 I’m likely to have 4+ revisions, I’m not worried about it. People with health risk factors are more likely to need revisions, causing them to be over-represented as you get further up the curve.

Additionally, it’s well known anecdote that implant recipients ‘size up’ in subsequent revisions, so I see future revisions as a chance to add size.

Bottom line, I’m grateful for the implant and the opportunity it gives me to have a full sexual life.

I'm not gonna read any of this, but no I'm not worried about ever getting infections, because it'll happens or it doesn't but even if I did I'll be all right and it'll clean itself up, because tyvm modern medicine. And no I have zero fear of my dick dying and becoming unable to have another implant shoved up my balls. Man up, you'll be all right.

Receiving a permeant cure for my erectile dysfunction is more important than me worrying about future hypotheticals.

TwoStep wrote:I’m interested in an implant. I can accept a scenario where I get implanted and live a normal life for 30 years until I get an infection or ALCL at age 60 and give up on sex at that point. But there seems to be a non-negligible risk of reaching the end of the line sooner than that. A paper from the Mayo Clinic estimates a 50% risk of getting an infection by the 4th implant (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29795529/). There’s also cases in the literature of patients who reach the end of the line within a few years of first implant and can’t get another one (for example https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15992896) or end up very small after infection salvage (for example 4 cm distal in this case: “Reimplant after removal of infected inflatable penile implant” https://www.vjpu-issm.info/videos/peer- ... plantation). Having seen this kind of data I’m concerned that even after a successful operation I wouldn’t be able to find peace with it, always wondering when I might get an infection in the next revision surgery.
So those implanted at a young age, do you feel confident in what you have or do you often worry about losing it to future complications?

Edit:
Edited to add link to the Mayo paper from 2018 (also discussed elsewhere on this site, I should say that many posters disagree with their findings for various reasons). The case study is older as noted by the poster below and I suspect their experimental salvage procedure has been abandoned but I don’t know that. Added vjpu video.

What's the risk of ALCL with implants? I see online it can happen with breast implants but has anyone seen it with penis implants?

I agree with this... The thought of having to have revisions (and their risks) scares me... But at least you get a size up each time.... So if all goes smoothly you're winning!

Definitely feel on borrowed time though. I'm 31 now and going to use pills, injections, pumps, rings and anything else before an implant. Hope I can make it to 50 without an implant but who knows. When there's no other option, being bionic sounds pretty cool.
British, 32 yrs old. ED caused by Paraphimosis in 2019. 100mg Sildenafil for sex. Trialled Invicorp as advised by doctor in 2021 but it was too strong. Taking 50mg-75mg of Sildenafil every night at 3am to stimulate morning erections, good response so far.
