Had to change my mind about implants.

Postby justus1292 » Wed May 12, 2010 8:03 pm

Quite frankly (sorry Frank) this is not the first time I've changed my mind about going the implant route. This time my PA put me on hold until I got the ticker checked out due to changes on my EKG. Surprisingly, during those few short weeks I noticed (wifey did too) changes using just Viagra or bimix. Viagra now doing the job 60% and bimix batting (batting?) a thousand.

Two things I've noticed. First: when I get a night time dribble of a few drops for a few nights, we suddenly notice changes in erection capability. Don't ask me! For the most part I've been dry at night....even on a heavy night of drinking. But the dribble four years later? Just don't get it. Second: every time I start thinking hard about going the implant route....again: things start changing. Yes! These two things go pretty much hand-in-hand.

Would appreciate any input on this. Just haven't found any similar into out there on the net.

Are you on any blood thinner for your heart. Warfarin increases blood flow to the penis and glans.

I was in the hospital 8/08 getting warfarin shots and all of a sudded my penis started to react for the first time in a long time, even though I was Very Ill.

The reaction was not good enough for sex but is shure made me feel better. I have now been off warfarin and all blood thinner since a week before my implant 10/23/08.

Interesting comments regarding Coumadin therapy. I have been on Coumadin for 6 yrs. now, due to surviving two strokes that originated from thrombus within the left atrium of my heart. I am now one year post-radical prostatectomy, and still remain fully impotent, despite VED, Cialis, Levitra and now injections. Either VED trauma or the injectables have lead to penile fibrosis, so now when I inject I only can achieve about 1/2 of the length and girth that I had before surgery.
I hear the horror stories about the penile implants, and I cringe, wondering, do I have to continue to live this life in this shape.

Glad that your situation has improved with having gone the implant route.

Yes there are a lot of horror stories about implants. There are only 2 or 3 doctors in the US that do them well. Dr. Milam at Vanderbilt did mine. I also have a horror story from a failed attempt by a local Memphis urologist.

Send me an email to jwp104@att.net and I will send you the rough draft of my story "One Mans Journey." How I went from a failed attempt to sucessful implant surgery.

There are at least 2 other guys on this forum that have had implants by Dr. Milam. They go to him from all over the country. I am almost 19 months post op, Mike is about 3 months post op and now Dave just had his surgery last week. There are several others on other forums that have had botched implants and Dr. Milam has been able to help them also.

I have lots of other information I can foreward you that could help you make a decision to go ahead with an implant. It has renewed my sex life in amazing ways.

Any way I can help just let me know.

Thanks for the replys. No, I'm not on blood thinners. Not even aspirin, which causes bad tinitis so I have difficulty hearing. Things dropped off for a day or two, but last night (early morning) I felt a nice return of some real tumence and felt VERY randy as well. Daughter and grand kids gone this weekend.....whew! Maybe we'll have a day or two to work on this.

Maybe its just nerve regeneration or something. :D

Justus, Just wondering how things turned out? It sounded to me like you were headed straight to complete impotency. Of course you could always do like I did, become hopelessly impotent, no sex or an implant, those were my only choices. But I don't recommend it.

I can say there are (SOME) horror stories about implants, but because they are bad experiences, they always come to the top. On the other side, there are a lot of positive experiences, which explains the high satisfaction rate of implants, ie over 90%. These horror stories mostly (if not always), come from inexperienced doctors.
Also, I can count not less than 20 top surgeons in the US only. There are others in Europe, Australia, and other places around the world. Even in the US, there are some good doctors that don't have big names due to not being able to market themselves properly, but they are technically good.

Jacks implant was done 14 years ago. He hasn't visited FT for a very long time. Hes either happy or perhaps has even passed. I suspect that his observation could of been valid in his day. But before new members get their feel bads all stirred up lets make sure we are sure to put that 14 years into perspective. Many of todays quality implanters might not of even been trained back then. Information is moving through our world at a much faster rate now. Many teaching hospitals have expanded their urology programs.
I can remember a neighbor that had heart surgery when I was about 15. It was a huge deal. Now I can bump into an old friend. As we catch up on things its not uncommon to be told that they had a stent or even a bypass done. No big deal now, unheard of 40 years ago. Implants are evolving as we speak. Small incremental improvements is how its done.
As much as we bitch about our medical system. There is a lot to be thankful for. My own father told me that he never saw a dentist until he had lost his first tooth. Now to be sure, I had an old father.
Ast2123 is very correct in that there is quite a good supply of talent in the surgeon ranks now. Several implant manufacturers currently. Information about the implants & surgeons is easy to get. There isn't any valid reason to go to the local guy just cause he is close.

Thanks, GT1956.
I didn't realize that this post is from 2010. Of course, 12 years ago, implants were not as good as nowadays.

Read Jacks signature line. Looks to me like his implant was done in 2008.
