Different Recovery Times

Postby dunbar57 » Sun Aug 14, 2022 3:54 pm

I was scheduled to have my implant last month with Dr. Jeff Brady in Orlando. My prostate cancer came back so I had to cancel until I finish radiation treatments.

Dr. Brady says 8 weeks recovery time.

Dr. Perito in Miami says his patients can resume sexual activity in 3 to 4 weeks.

Dr. Hakky in Atlanta says 2 to 4 weeks.

Any insight on the big time difference?

I think everyone heals differently.Depends on age and overall health.I was 69 when I got mine and had sex at three weeks but didn’t start cycling and feel healed Untill the sixth week.I was slightly pumped up when I went home and it was enough to have slow easy sex and it was damn good!Again everyone heals differently!

I'm not so sure that those are different time frames. Sure, someone can tell you 2-4 weeks. But it ALL depends on how YOU heal & what pain you feel & can tolerate. So two are saying if you're lucky? 2-4 weeks. 1 is saying that reality is that most take up to 8 weeks. We've had members that weren't ready at even the 8 week mark. They're just opinions that there is no way you can hold a surgeon to.
I suggest to not make your surgeons selection on any of these claims.

Have you considered Dr Eid? My recovery time was a couple days, nearly immediate cycling and no problem with sex at 3 weeks. Of course this was just my experience.

I will add a bit to this. It is just my understanding from what I have seen posted by others on this site and Doctors I have talked to and read information they have posted. First as was pointed out men are different but doctors are also. There is a publication in the documents worth reading thread in the General Discussion section of this site about the "Coffin Effect". This has to do with quicker activation times resulting is less size loss from surgery over longer activation times. When I was talking to my local doctors before having my surgery they advised 8 weeks before activation. My surgeon advised just under 3 weeks. And as has been posted a well known NY doctor will have men ok'd at 3 days but advise them to cycle as much and as early as they can so it is up to the man when and how much. There was another paper by a well known Florida doctor you listed about VED use after surgery. But in that paper it stated that average activation time was 8 days. And it seems to me that some or maybe a lot of the size that was not lost from surgery could be related to early activation.

Doctors are a lot different also. Many are fine surgeons but do not specialize in implant surgery. They do them but some like my local doctors only do a few a year. They use old methods for this that are focused on not over sizing the man. Many like my local doctors told me there would be 1-2 inches size loss with this. And the business office with those doctors uro group told me many men that received the implant with those doctors had such poor outcomes that they ended up having the devices removed. This is why I decided not to use my local doctors. Other doctors around the country have worked to do what they can to improve on old methods to provide a better outcome for the man. No touch surgery and special scrub protocol to reduce infection. And surgery techniques that reduce trauma and bleeding (bruising). Aggressive sizing. And that leading to earlier activation.

Doctor selection is a big part of this because of the cosmetic aspect to this. Like having a nose job. Lots of doctors do them but some are much better than others. Or a knee replacement where there are a few go to doctors for pro athletes. What you want to do is to try to find a really good doctor as close to you as you can. You want to avoid the doctors like my local doctors if you can. You do that by asking a few questions. How many implants the doctor does a year. Dose the doctor do revisions or repairs. And how long before activation. The answers will give you some idea of how much interest the doctor has with IPP surgery. There are many good doctors out there that are not well know and there are also a lot of not so good ones to be avoided.

I also agree that the 3 doctors you listed were saying very close to the same thing. 8 weeks recovery may have you cleared for sex earlier. Just my opinion but I would set my activation date to be 3 weeks or less. And 1-2 weeks would be better. But you really need to follow the doctors orders you choose. They are the one that did the surgery on you and that can be way different than what happens to another man with another doctor. Again why doctor selection is important.

Good luck going forward with this.

I’m
Scheduled for December 9th, so no idea how long recovery will be. BUT, I plan on running BPC-157 starting the day before surgery and continuing until I feel healed.

Don't know about Dr. Brady but Dr. Perito and Dr. Hakky use the infrapubic approach which has a shorter recovery time.
