Let's say they find 100 people who get surgery 10 years ago. They try to contact them and just 30 show up. Then all the conclusions are drawn from that smaller sample. Nice but not high quality / hard data.

Btw I think the question could have been better formulated. Ex. :
How long did your FIRST implant lasted?
0-2
3-6
6-9
10+
Still using it since 0-3
Still using it since 4-6
Still using it since 7+

Just my humble opinion

your right and I agree with your input. I have to say, when I started this poll I wasnt so clever like now with this input.
The still using point is very interesting. But my interest was also the difference between AMS and Coloplast and with all this possibilities this poll isnt possible. I think max 10 opportunities

You are seriously misunderstanding the results of the survey. If someone has a functioning implant at 4 years he'll check the 4 year box. This does NOT mean that his implant failed at 4 years.
The way it is worded, it better reflects how long a member has had his implant rather than the time to failure.
In my opinion, these type of questionnaires are poorly designed to produce the results that many presume them to produce.

No it s not right, cause my question was... how long LASTED your implant - Malfunction rate.

I want an implant, but then I read this site and even the guys who are happy with theirs have revisions every few years. In their signatures there are plenty of guys who list 3+ surgeries.

A terrifying amount seem to have failures within the first couple years or even months.

And terrifyingly few reports of "I got it installed and it worked flawessly for 10 years."

Not sure how the devices are supposed to last an average of 10 years when I haven't seen a single report of one lasting that long.

I dont trust the company's own stats about their device. They have every reason to lie. Just like the hairloss drug that I took said it only caused impotence in 1% of users, when in reality its much higher. Corporations lie to make more money.

100% agree!

Sure there are not just men with problems but you are over looking is why this poll does not reflect implant longevity. I mean you want to say implants last less than 2 years you use a group that has only been implanted 2 years. And you just do a poll that shows what the men who are on a board for that week or month. Very low numbers and as I said make it so that men with working implants are counted as failures. Then have no way to check or verify if the replacement was because of infection or some other non-failure cause. If you were to use the same critical inspection of this poll as has been done with the other studies on implant longevity it would not even be close. This is bad information to promote to new members.

Like I posted you want to believe bad information there is not much I can do about that. Promoting bad information to others is a different thing all together.

Take care and best of luck to you with this.

I don't agree with the statement of Dr. Trost. If ED hits in 30s or 20s, and no other treatment works, should I wait till I am over 60? How often people over 60 or over 50 have sex compared to their 20s and 30s? I can't compare my sex life in 30s to now. It also used to feel different.

Keep in mind that the poll has a major flaw: the people who have been implanted and don't experience a problem usually stop posting.

But there is some solid research to answer your question.

For example, here is one study of the AMX from 2015:
"Mechanical survival rates of the inflatable penile prosthesis at 5, 10, and 15 years were 93.3%, 76.5%, and 64.8% .
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4462637/

So, at 5 years, there was a 7% failure rate.
At 10 years, there was a 24% failure rate
And at 15 years a 35% failure rate.

Or, to put it another way, your chances are better than 75% that at 10 years you will still be problem free, and 65% chance at year 15.
Presumably, the manufacturers have continued to improve their products, so I expect the results to keep improving.

I like the way that you present the data.
I sure wish that some members could understand that having an implant is not like you'll spend the rest of your life following FT. It seems perfectly logical that after a reasonable time to become accustomed to the implant. Most men will drift away from this forum. What is the point of reading the same tired rants of people that see the medical profession as some great evil conspiracy to steal money with quack treatments.
Not saying that can't happen. But at least in the USA there is several levels of checks & balances in place to limit quack medicine.
Case in point. 35 years ago there was a local plastic surgeon that churned out questionable breast implants. His surgery privileges were revoked at all of the regional hospitals. Pretty hard to be a quack if you can't get access to a hospital or surgery center.
The FDA wouldn't approve thalidomide to be sold in the USA. The result was that very few American babies were born with flippers for arms & legs.
All I can say is that if a mans fear of the medical profession runs that deep then why are you even reading FT?

Basically almost 3 out 10 had a break up (mechanical + other causes) before year 10.

50% of patients which had mechanical failure didn't want a second try.

Only 61% experienced orgasm.

This is just to show how the same data could be read or presented differently.

I don't think it's a high quality study: one medical center, one surgeon, heterogeneous population, no correlation between ED causes and outcomes (ex.: it's well known type 2 diabetes makes the surgery more risky), etc. It seems to me mainly a surgeon reporting his career in a statistical fashion (medical filings of formers patients + phone calls + stat software). Which is useful and interesting but not a silver bullet.

From the Boston Scientific website....take it for whats it worth I guess

How long does an implant last? Will I ever need to replace it?

It’s impossible to predict how long an implant will function in a particular person. As with any medical device, penile implants are subject to wear and mechanical failure over time. A recent study of more than 39,000 patients showed that the seven-year mechanical survival of an a Boston Scientific penile implant is greater than 94.5%.3 To prolong the life of your implant, follow the advice of your urologist.

I’ve only had my implant for a little over 6 months, and so far , it just keeps getting better! Hopefully that will continue, only time will tell ! But for we that had no other options, mine has been a godsend to my sexual life ! I’ve been through the pills and the injection route , and for me personally , I’m glad that bullshit is over,

The implant has given me a new lease on my sexual life , where before , the drugs , both in the injections and the pills , you just never knew for sure if it was going to work ,or for how long , and the side effects from both were quite concerning to me , especially the injections , not because of the pain , but the drugs causing concerning issues because of the ever increasing dosages ( for me anyway ) .

If mine does fail, i will for damn sure get a revision ( if at all possible ) .

And even though I’ve already gotten the implant, I still do read FT , regularly just to keep abreast of what others are experiencing…
69 y/0, ed for approx 25 years, pills worked up until 2-years ago, tri-mix lots of different mixtures, none worked worth a crap, Bad V/l , implanted 4/20/22 dr Perito / Miami -he’s pretty damn good at what he does. titan, with genesis pump 21 cm…
