One of many Implant Journeys: Countdown to going Bionic

So, a week from today I hope to be Bionic – my implant has (finally) been scheduled for Fri 16th Dec to be performed by Professor Ralph at UCLH in London.

Winding the clock back...

I had a radical prostatectomy back in 2019, apparently nerve-sparing. The operation fortunately got rid of my cancer, caused no incontinence issues, however led to a battle with ED.

I was 51 when I had the radical prostatectomy – I am generally very fit (Ironman triathlete and ultra-runner) plus had an active sex-life with many then Fiancée (now wife). I really thought any ED issues would be short-lived but I expect like many people in the FT community, it has become much more of a problem than I originally thought it would be.

It is not for want of trying - I have been prescribed all the pills, creams, vacuum pump, injections (Caverject and Invicorp) etc.

Not much has really worked, although I have had some success with Invicorp injections (when I can get them). The vacuum pump has been useful but more for physio than anything else. I have been fortunate to obtain Invicorp on the NHS (I am based in the UK) and it has allowed me to have penetrative sex, however after over nearly 2 years of use I have developed Peyronies disease (approx. 30% curvature).

I don't really want to inject myself for the rest of my life plus there is some planning before use - not exactly ideal for being impulsive.

So, I started exploring penile implants and that led to a private consultation with Professor David Ralph in London. He gave me some confidence that I was a good candidate for a penile implant operation, albeit reminding me that I still had the option of continuing with the Invicorp.
We discussed the different penile implant options, the type of surgery, generally all the 'pros and cons' and what is detailed so well on FT.

I was so impressed with Professor Ralph I considered raiding my savings and paying the £12K+ to go private and have the operation as soon as possible.

On reflection I decided to go via the NHS and wait my turn. Fortunately, I have made it under Professor Ralph's care and now after a few false starts have a firm date in the diary (19th Dec) after approx. 10 months on the waiting list.

Anyway, that is my back story - another week to go, partly nervous, partly excited.

As far as I know I am going to be implanted with AMS 700 - I am a 'grower rather than a shower’ but obviously keen on getting the best sizing possible and no further loss of length.

I will report back on my progress and recovery journey. Great to have the support of the FT community.

Your story matches mine down to being 51 at the time but it took me ten years to come around to getting an implant. I truly "Wish I did it sooner". Congratulation on the pending surgery you will love it!!! Keep us Posted! If you have any questions don't hesitate to PM me

You will not regret this decision, not for one minute...except, maybe the first time they unwrap your dick after surgery, but that will only last a minute or so.

Don't worry about the operation, don't worry about the recovery, don't worry about your length and girth, don't worry about being able to use it after recovery, don't worry about being able to cum, don't worry about pleasing your wife...don't worry about anything. Just submit to your surgeon and follow his recovery advice, you can't hurry the recovery, each person's recovery is a bit different, but you will recover without any problems.

Congratulations! You will love your implant and all it will permit you to do.

Coutdown -4 days (Monday morning)

I am really hoping my Friday implant operation will not be cancelled what with train strikes and now travel chaos (snow in UK). I have booked a hotel on Thursday evening in London to try to get an early start, although not required to get to UCLH until 11am. Meanwhile, my preparation is daily pumping - with all this cold weather I need to keep the old boy warm and the blood flowing!

Also required to do a COVID test (lateral flow) tomorrow prior to my hospital admission.

So cross-fingers no cancellations. Off to London shortly. An overnight stay then to UCLH for 11am (Friday) and the real countdown to going bionic.

I talked to my uro yesterday about the possibility of an implant, and he's for it. So am I, but I will wait until spring to schedule. Apparently, you have to schedule the surgery before the insurance company reviews it for coverage.

Not part of the bionic brigade yet....

Unfortunately I did not receive my implant yesterday. Despite the nurses and train strikes I got up to UCLH in good time but was scheduled for afternoon surgery and the last of the day. Apparently an emergency came in and I was bumped off the list. Professor Ralph wasn't that happy and tried to get me some theatre time but with no avail. I had signed the consent form and had been sitting in my gown for 2 hours (my total wait was 6 hours) - not great! Oh well, I suppose my condition is not life-threatening and it will simply be re-scheduled for Jan/Feb - the senior management who had been given the job to let me down gently assured me I am now a 'priority case'.

I was a bit disappointed with my stretched length, which was only 9-10cm. Using the vacuum pump I can get an erection up to 6 inches although I suppose that includes the head of my penis. I am slightly worried that I will lose further length, however I must trust Professor Ralph and team to provide the best sizing for me - let's hope so!

Anyway, back to the pumping and Invicorp injections. Will let you know the new date. Thanks again for all the support and Happy Christmas.
