Implant Durability

Postby cangoforever87 » Mon Dec 26, 2022 3:20 pm

Wanted to inquire about the durability of the implant in terms of how long they last.

My current Urologist (Havkin) says I am too young at this point (35) due to them only lasting 8-10 years and would need many re dos. is this generally the case?

Those numbers are extremely conservative, or your urologist simply isn’t experienced with implant and is trying to steer you away. If you seriously what to investigate implants, read lots of old posts here on FT, then talk to some surgeons who specialize in penile implants, Eid, Clavell, Perito, etc. You’ll hear a different story.

You're getting started on the wrong foot. He is showing his inexperience. Take him at his word & find a different urologist.
You can thank us later for saving you lots of heartache.

Cango,

The posts ahead of mine are giving you good advice.

Knowing what I know, not getting a penal implant because you are worried about durability is going to rob you of years of sexual satisfaction. What are you going to do, wait until you have only have 10 years left to live to get an implant?

If durability and possible revisions are holding you back do searches for "revision" here on FT, most of the posts about revisions I have read say, "I would do it again in a heartbeat" or similar response.

If you need an implant to get hard because nothing else works, then go get an implant, but follow the advice you will get here and that is to go to a high-volume implant surgeon, not your neighborhood urologist.

excellent responses, thank you all.

Yes it seems the consensus for older gentleman is that they wish they had done it sooner, and I agree that waiting just robs yourself of years of sexual satisfaction.

Fortunately I am in FL and planned on consulting with Perito which I will do

Cango,

There are plenty of young FT members who have had implants, spend time on this site, you need to learn the pros and cons. Look for a journal by Minnesota#2, he and I had our surgeries on the same day, same implant and damn near the same time. He has written a great journal of the ups and downs of deciding and then recovery, you can learn a lot from reading his complete post.

Any doctor that isn't fully on board with implants isn't a doctor you want to use. At any age if a part of the body isn't working you get it fixed, right? A knee replacement is only said to last 10-12 years too, but if you blow out a knee at 30 years old are you wanting to sit in a wheelchair because you'll need a replacement? I hope that's a No.
There was one guy on here a while back, if I remember correctly, he said his implant was now 22 years old, still working and being used.
