bandage after implant, peeing after implant

Postby aussiePeyronies » Thu Feb 09, 2023 2:13 am

Hey guys,

just implanted and discharged. My penisisbandaged, if this gets a little wet during peeing, is this okay or should i replace thewhole bandage?

Also, im urinating with 5 streams going up, down, left, right, backwards, is this common post implant? I know thedoctor did a cystocopy as well and looked down the urethra.

Thanks,
J

My wound care was very specific to use a thin film of bacitracin ointment on my incision and a sterile gaze pad over that. I was also to wear a Jock strap for a number of days and that held the gaze in place. I used a plastic hospital urinal where I could get the glans of my penis inside to capture the spray. The spray is common. The inside lip was sharp and I had to be careful as I had some swelling. That was enough to keep things dry for me. I used bags of frozen dry beans to use as I packs. That worked very well to also keep things dry as the beans would not melt and clump up like ice or frozen veggies. You want to keep things clean and dry so if anything gets wet you need to remove it. Some doctors used a surgical glue to seal the incision so that men can bath soon after surgery. That would also be much less of a risk than an incision just closed with sutures. If this is penoscrotal you can put your hand under your penis over the bandage to shield any spray and dribble. Toilet paper is good to wipe the glans and anywhere else you get wet. If your gaze pad over your incision has a water proof outer layer that helps. Or if you use tape to hold the gaze pad in place and have the waterproof tape cover the gaze where you incision is. But if the gaze pad gets wet then yes change it.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot, thatis great advice. My incision was sub-coronal, I am pretty sure he did use glue to make it waterproof. I will follow that, and double check witht he nurse. Thank you.

My catheter actually wasn't put it properly and I ended up peeing on myself after surgery and the doctors just took the bandage off and never replaced it they said it was fine and it turned out fine. Obviously not ideal but the point I'm making is by the time wee has been filtered by your kidneys etc it has very low chance of causing an infection so I wouldn't be too hung up on it l.

I had my implant 7 Feb and the scrotal incision is glued. I think this helps minimise the risk of infection and the surgeon just told me I was free to have a shower the following day.

I don't think they understand that you need a bit more advice than that, after all your crown jewels have just taken a battering and I felt nervous about doing anything!

As for bandaging, once the initial bandage was removed and the catheter taken out, the private nursing staff were disappointing with their help. Considering I had what looked like a black gash in the scrotal area, I had to ask for that to be covered in gauze. It was only held in place by my string hospital pants. As for the two holes in my helmet, she covered these with two plasters and dispite my protests, still covered some of the uretha.

100% agree, after being discharged, a bit lost on what to do exactly. Don’t really have access to the doc.

Guys,

I’m peeing and the stream is going backwards spraying into the gauze that my penis is wrapped in.

I do have super glued water proof stitches, I am showering every time I pee, and changing the gauze.

The nurse says that pee is sterile and a little bit on the gauze will be okay. Can anyone confirm this? Or tell me if showering multiple times is not a good idea?

My scrotum is now burning as well, is this a cause for concern?

For the first couple of weeks peeing was like a water fountain in the wind, never knew which way it was gonna go.
Most of the time I sit down to pee. Not sure why you're peeing backwards unless the stream is hitting the bandages. Maybe try peeing while sitting backwards on the seat? The urinal is a good idea too.
The burning sack may be a reaction to antibiotics, but let your doc know if it gets worse. There's going to be lots of discomfort for the first few weeks. Hang tough, ask for pain meds!

hello friend.

First, congratulations on taking the big step. We are all here for the same reason, and we all can relate to your journey. You are day one, and it is a whole new experience and a whole new world for you. At this moment, you are probably not in a celebratory mood yet, but rest assured your ED will in due time become a thing of the past. There is a reason why the satisfaction rate of these devices is over 90%. You will be one of the success stories for sure.

it seems like peeing is one of those small issues that affects everybody. I don’t mean to minimize your concerns, but it’s going to be OK.

I had my implant via these Penoscrotal approach. I was tightly wrapped in bandages for only one full day, at which time all bandages were removed. There was not anything whatsoever covering my incision. My instructions were that showers were OK the day after surgery, but baths were not. Others here report different protocols for bathing.

I do remember my surgeon saying that if Pee got on the bandage that it was of no concern.

I know it is frustrating that random sprain from the tip of your penis. I am one month and one week post recovery and still am not able to aim accurately 100% of the time. My implant was left at 60% inflated, so for almost 5 weeks I have had a semi erection. I think the reason for my random spraying is that , the pressure of my semi erection against my underwear, pushes the glands into odd angles as I adjust it periodically for comfort. When I take it out to P, it seems like the tip is not in frequently, distorted from the pressure, resulting in a random spray pattern. Usually after several moments, the stream flattens out, and everything is OK, though it is not uncommon to have a primary stream, followed by a little “dribbling“ as well.

Not something that I’m concerned about at all.

My surgery was closed with dissolvable stitches. I showered daily, being very gentle in the surgical area.

There is no evidence of infection whatsoever. Hang in there, my friend, your early on, and you are bound to probably overthink things that need not be really given much thought to four a good bit more time.

We all heal differently, but from what I’ve seen on the forum, there is very little I have ever read that indicates getting some urine on the surgical area will result in an infection. Just keep it clean and wash it gently as what I would suggest. But it’s an all things your doctor should know.
