I am one of thise ‘lucky’ ones that opioids don’t work well for me. Dental work requires more pain shots and doesn’t last. I have had kidney stones and morphine doesn’t work. They tried twice with no dent in pain, then the stone passed. Had a hematoma in my abdomen, they tried morphine again, no dent. Then they tried dilaudid and that worked. I can’t take NSAIDS either due to CKD. In anticipation I have a referral to a pain management doctor. Possible implant end of March. Great fear about being in great pain for weeks. Anybody here have similar opioid resistance. Thanks!

I have a reaction to Narcotic pain meds. I did not take anything in the hospital after surgery until the next morning when I took Tylenol for the ride back to the hotel. I was off nsaids also, but my surgeon insisted on taking Motrin. So I split the difference and took one Motrin and Tylenol. Worked pretty well. I had been given a script for Tramadol by the surgeon, but I took none until the morning I was to fly home. It did not work until late that afternoon when I was walking to my house. Never took it again and ended up troughing them out later. Some folks have low pain and bruising like me, and others have a more difficult time. I have never had a kidney stone, but my father did when I was growing up. I have heard it said that it is the closest thing to childbirth a man can go through. I have had other painful injuries, and this was a ways down the list in level of pain for me. The thing is not all men or doctors are alike. Some doctors may cause less pain with the surgery than others and some men require more work that causes more pain.

I have been very fortunate in not getting into trouble. No broken bones. No stitches. I did do a procedure to remove an infected hair follicle. He numbed it up but it didn’t work. Almost went threw the roof when he sliced it open with a scalpel. I don’t have much experience taking pain killers since I’ve been lucky.

Mr. Vandar: I’m not saying your experience will be like mine. I hope that it is. I’m chiming in with hope that I might give you a better outlook.

I happen to be one of those people that opioid pain drugs work really well on. That being said, for my implant they sent me home with a prescription for 14 Percocet tablets. I ended up taking one and didn’t even really need that. Ended up using the rest when I had 7 teeth extracted for dental implants about 6 months later.

I’ve had kidney stones, rotator cuffs repaired, knees rebuilt, appendix, hernias. I know what pain is. My implant surgery might, at its worst, risen to the level of mild discomfort. An extra strength Tylenol or Motrin would have been plenty.

I know some guys do have pain. But that’s not the universal experience, not by a long shot. Use ice to reduce inflammation and swelling, don’t get crazy active. I did too much, probably, right after surgery but it didn’t hurt nor did it seem to affect my outcome. Still, rest seems to hasten the healing process and the sooner you heal, the sooner you won’t hurt.

In terms of impact, the whole implant deal was about the same (in terms of pain) as having an uncomplicated hernia stitched up. I hope your experience emulates mine.

I had an infrapublic implant done 16 days ago. Haven't experienced anything that I'd call "pain." Only soreness.

I was prescribed a huge supply of Norco but have never needed to take any. Narcotics - like Norco & Ocycodone never relieve pain for me anyway; just give me headaches and make me sleepy. So, better for me not to take them.

I've only taken 2 tabs - 500mg acetometaphin & 3 tabs - 200 mg Ibuprofen (at the same time) as needed for the soreness in my dick and tenderness in the lower pubic region near the incision.

No pain in the scrotum; just swelling and tenderness which still haven't gone away entirely.

Fearing pain in your most sensitive part is universal to us here on this forum. It is perfectly normal to experience it and perfectly fine to express it here. Who knows how many men will never regain their sexual confidence and experience due to this fear. One friend of mine who’s had ED for years and has a sexually frustrates wife flat-out told me “no way i’m doing THAT!”.

To the point of your post, it is not uncommon at all to read the reports here of men who have required nothing more than over the counter pain medication. I’m one of them. (well, almost. i had 1 prescription pain killer on night #4 when i rolled onto my stomach while sleeping and squashed my semi-inflated implant). Other than that, i only took a few tylenol. MUCH less pain than i’d imagined.

That was the worst part. Imagining it. The reality was such a relief. I’m 5 weeks post op now, back to work, walking several miles daily, and going back to the gym in one week.

You are unique, so your results will be unique to you, but almost universally guys here express the sentiment that they only wish they’d done it sooner.

In my opinion I think the visit to the pain management doctor will work just fine. They specialize in what you describe.
I worked with a guy that was terrified of back surgery. He went to a guy that was able to numb just the nerve that went to that vertebrae. The shot lasted around 2 weeks & helped my friend a lot before he decided to get the surgery.

I like many others had a very simple recovery very little pain. My wife says I have a high pain tolerance as I’ve experienced serious pain in having my shoulder literally ripped almost off and major 4 hour surgery to repair and reconnect all the muscles. Then 8 years later took a nasty fall and tore 4 out of 5 of the rotator muscles in my other shoulder. That’s pain! Also had several other surgeries and narcotics do almost nothing for me except make me groggy. Does very little for pain. My implant surgery only required a couple Tylenol and other than that almost no what I would call pain. Good luck and don’t let the fear of pain stop you from doing what you need to do.

Thanks everyone for your support. I just have been lucky. Only had colonoscopy & a heart ablation that I was knocked out. Everyone is unique. I’ve had a molar yanked and a tongue biopsy. It hurt but no pain pills. I was surprised. Guess I will find out as I am going full speed ahead. Thanks!

Vandar101- Opioids do nothing for me. Neither does Tylenol, Motrin, etc. After my implant doc gave me hydrocodone and tramadol. Just made me nauseated and no pain relief. Percocet took the edge off, side effect was constipation.
Once stitches were healed a hot bath took the edge off. Aspercream was also a help, a dab smeared on my shaft took soreness to nothing for a few hours.
