Pain management

No implant experience. I have had plenty of dental, sinus and especially kidney stone experience. My first kidney stone, or at least the first one I know was stones, I passed out from the pain in the crapper at work. Some of my coworkers later told me they heard the thump as I hit the floor and wondered if I was OK. I wasn't! They never checked! Well I was the supervisor so there's that. Might have been a clue.

Back to the somewhat relevant story. During my fairly numerous stone attacks I discovered that the Oxies did little for that pain. On one episode I'd already taken several oxies to little effect when I couldn't take it anymore and opted for the ER. When I got there they injected me with something that worked. Of course that was on top of the oxies I'd already taken. It didn't actually kill the pain from the stones but did make my lips numb and while I could still feel the pain I no longer cared. Plus, I then became the talkative, outgoing, life of the party of the ER. WhooHoo!

One that line I'd learned after a surgery that diazapams work better for me for most pain. They don't kill the pain but cause me to no longer care or fret about it. Something to consider. Plus, at least with me they don't stop up the plumbing or give me the skin itches like the opioids do. I'd much rather suffer some pain than suffer the itching skin and constipation from opioids. Besides, for stones the opioids just don't do the job, unless what they shot me up with was an opioid. Now for any situation where pain meds would otherwise be appropriate I try to talk them into something from the Valium family as an alternative. I used to keep a stash on hand but it's been so long since I needed anything all my stuff is too long expired.

After at least a year of stone attacks and the failure of less invasive options the doctor finally lasered those evil little suckers out. Been good for years now (knock on wood!).

My doctor prescribed Oxycodone for me to take during my recovery. I never took one.

I was able to get by with over-the-counter Ibuprofen or Tylenol (I don't remember which one).

The pain might be bearable enough for you not to need heavy-duty pain meds.
