LGX problem and I'm getting quite concerned

Guys, I need some help:

I had my LGX implanted 19 days ago. The implant was completed through a horizontal incision in my scrotum just under the base of my penis. The tissue on the right side of my scrotum is now very thick and feels quite hard and the pump & bulb are becoming incased in this thick mass of tissue. The pump used to be hanging down right beside my left testicle but now it has moved into this mass. I have been pulling down on the pump daily and although it hasn’t moved further up under my penis, it now is very hard to find through this tissue mass. I have been inflating/deflating my implant once daily for 1 hour since day 8 after surgery per doctor’s instructions but can no longer do it because I can’t hold on to the pump valve box or find the deflate button.

I had my first post-op appointment with my surgeon this past Wednesday and when I explained and showed him this area, he said the tissue is still swollen from the surgery and the reason the left side doesn’t have any thick mass is because he moved the right testicle so he could place the pump in the middle so the right side is affected much more than the left. A note here: the urologist describes my scrotum as very pendulant and my testicles are much larger than normal although he finds nothing wrong with them and I told him that’s the way I’ve been all my life.

It seems that in the past few days the mass on the right side is growing thicker and expanding so that, as I said above, I can’t even use the pump right now. The whole area also is somewhat painful, especially when I touch or try to move my scrotum. I’m getting worried that my pump & valve box are becoming incased in tissue and will cause problems in the near future. It’s hard for me to accept my surgeon’s explanation, especially since the tissue mass has expanded and thickened in the past few days but he has told me not to worry because the mass will disappear in the next two weeks and my scrotum will return to normal size and tissue thickness. My next appointment is September 8 (eight weeks from surgery) but he told me I could return to “normal sexual activities” next Wednesday (4 weeks from surgery). All the bruising had disappeared but now there is new bruising on the right side just above this tissue mass.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I told my wife that I would call my uro by the week’s end if this tissue mass continued expanding and/or I can’t reach the pump in a few days. I feel somewhat foolish calling him in the next few days since I just saw him on the 24th.

Have any of you guys who have had peno-scrotal implant surgery experienced this?

To partially answer my own question, I have been very aggressive in inflating my prosthesis. Since I have been pumping the bulb up to 50 times per cycle in order to "stretch" my penis to the extreme, that aggressiveness has caused some of the tissue in my scrotum to swell. I have not been pumping for the past few days and things are slowly getting back to normal.

You were doing a lot more pumping during the healing period than I did. My doc pumped me 3 different times at appointments and I did not pump myself until 7 weeks post-op. Others do more and I have a CX whereas you have an LGX so there could be a difference. But if less pumping is helping, I would listen to your body.

And I wouldn't hesitate to call your doc when you have a problem. He is the ultimate medical expert and should be ready to help you if your body is a problem. I called my doc on Sunday, 5 days after my surgery, he had no problem taking my call, and told me to come into the office the next day.

Thanks, Dave. Your advice was right-on! I called my urologist and talked to his medical assistant. She sent a text to my Dr. and he requested that I come into the office immediately.

I went in and the after examining me the doctor said I had a very serious infection in the right side of my scrotum and the tissue was swelling around the pump unit. He gave me prescriptions for two antibiotics and I will return to his office this Friday morning to see if there is any change. If he discovers that there is no change in the swelling or tissue texture, he will admit me to the hospital so they can give me much stronger antibiotics and monitor the situation.

I hope and pray the antibiotics work. I don't want to go back into the hospital.

Keep me in your thoughts for the next few days.

You were right to call the doctor with your concerns. Hope your new script works, but if it is the hospital that is just an IV and some extra probing (more or less ). Think good thoughts, and wish you the best in your continued recovery.

Thanks to all you guy who sent me messages of encouragement.

The doctor thought I should see some improvement by this morning but I think everything is the same as before. I'll see my uro tomorrow morning to check things out. As for the additional prodding and probing, I have had so many nurses (female) and my doctor checking out my penis and scrotum in the past three weeks, I no longer have any concerns or fears about someone touching my privates

Add me to the list of those who are hoping for the best for you.

I have no medical training and am just another patient, so take my advice for what it is, mostly based on ignorance. But, from what I have read and what my doctor told me about post-op infections, I would take your situation as very serious and I would be very, very aggressive in following up with my Dr if I were in your situation. If my Dr told me to come in Friday, but had also said I should see improvement by Thursday, and if that improvement wasn't happening, I would be on the phone on Thursday with out waiting for Friday. My $0.02.

Thanks guys for your encouragement and advice. I realize that a scrotal infection at this point is, indeed, VERY serious. My urologist/surgeon put me on two strong antibiotics but they are so strong that when I take them in the mornings I spend about 4 hours trying to stay alert without passing out. He said they might affect me like that but we had to try these meds and if they don't work, he will put me back into hospital for a few days for IV antibiotics. And with these meds, I need to wait 2 hours after taking them before I can eat anything.

I am not encouraged by the early signs that the meds are working. The tissue has completely surrounded the pump and is getting very hard texture wise.

He is out of the office for surgery this afternoon and is working me into his overbooked schedule tomorrow morning because he realizes the seriousness of the situation. I'll keep you posted on the outcome of my appointment tomorrow.
