Deflating the AMS 700 MS Series

Postby nuguy2 » Wed Jul 10, 2013 5:07 pm

I just started cycling my AMS implant this week and am having a little problem deflating it. The instructions say to depress deflate button for 4 sec and then release. The cylinders should deflate and then you may squeeze penis to make it more flaccid. I am having to repeat this procedure 2 or 3 times to get it fully deflated. It is very difficult to depress the deflate button and rather
hard to find it.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

I had initial problems with deflation but now my problem is autoinflation after deflation. My follow-up is a week from today and I am hoping that instruction will solve the problem rather than that it is a mechanical problem with the pump.

I just had my AMS MS700LGX installed yesterday so I'm very new to this. However, my uro left the prosthesis inflated to 85% overnight and came in this morning to remove the catheter and bandages. He also squeezed and held the MS (Momentary Squeeze) deflation button for a few seconds. He removed his hand from the pump and I could begin feeling the fluid draining from cylinders to reservoir. When he was done draining the cylinders by squeezing my penis (not a great feeling 21 hours after surgery!) he then showed me how to prevent auto-inflation which I guess is common on the LGX. He told me that as soon as the cylinders are completely empty, immediately give the pump bulb ONE firm quick squeeze to lock the system so auto-inflation doesn't occur.

Has anyone else used this technique to prevent auto-inflation? I'll certainly learn more later since he wants me to begin cycling the implant one hour every day starting next Wednesday, one week following surgery. Then I can followup with him in two weeks to see if everything is going OK.

Just a newbe wanting info.

My doc told me that the AMS pump can be a bit of a nuisance on deflate. He said to press the deflate button with one hand and at the same time squeeze the penis with the other hand. That has worked fine for me. I do get a slight re-inflation but I think that may be fluid from the back cylinders, the once inside my body, propogating up into the front cyclinders. The re-inflation is not enough to be a significant problem.

I have tried the one pump technique without success. However, I only squeezed hard enough to get the "click." Chandlerman, did your doctor instruct you to do a full pump? Thanks.

My uro suggested that after I deflate the cylinders and squeeze my penis to drain the fluid out into the reservoir then squeeze the bulk hard and fast ONE time to lock the valve. I'm not suppose to start practicing the inflating and deflating until next Tuesday so I'll know more about how it works next week.

Thanks Bob. I tried this but will keep trying. My follow-up is this coming Wednesday and I'm just hoping I don't have a faulty pump.

It takes me two tries about a half hour apart to get fully deflated.
The first time I press the button the entire deflation, and give my penis a squeeze for the last few seconds.
About a half hour later I press the button again and massage & squeeze out more saline.
I think this has to do with the reservoir expanding in scar tissue?
I've never had a problem with auto-inflating, so I don't use the locking click at the end.

Actually I had a problem with auto-inflation and was squeezing the bulb really quick to "lock" the pump. I have discovered (with my uro's instructions) that "locking" the pump makes the next inflation a problem if I don't press the deflate button before starting the inflate procedure with a firm, quick pump and feel the click. Then the inflation process goes a bit easier. And my uro says that I shouldn't have any problems with auto-inflation under normal circumstances so "locking" the unit is unnecessary. So far I have been following his instruction and I have had no auto-inflation problems.

So maybe I was misleading others to use the "locking" squeeze after deflation. But if you do "lock" the unit after deflation, press the deflate button before starting to inflate so you can again hear and feel the click with the first inflation squeeze.

I had my follow-up and the surgeon was not too concerned about the autoinflation. He said I neede to work on developing reservior space and that keeping it as deflated as possible would do that. It seems to be working. He cautioned against the one compression of the pum as he said this redirects fluid to the cylinders.
