That's a great question. To be honest I don't know the answer and we never discussed it beforehand.
I would assume that it was to facilitate removal of the old implant which surely had tissue formed around it as it had been in place for 26 years.
or possibly to make the vasectomy easier?
It's healing great at day 12 now.

Seeing the doctor tomorrow to get cleared to pump and only after the doctor tells my wife that intimacy is safe...can we try this out!
Very happy that natural engorement is still present.
My natural erection is about 1/2"shorter. I am hopeful that with cycling and useage it will return.

My doctor also made a horizontal incision, just below my shaft. No idea why.
It's quite a bit longer incision than most I've seen on this site.

I had a revision as well as a vasectomy. Perhaps that approach gave more room for the work needed to be done.
I don't mind the scar.

That is correct. I lived with a failed implant for over 17 years but was only sexually active the last few years. I was focusing on just being a father to my children. After I began to have sex again in 2020... I was able to get a decent enough natural erection for intercourse. Not great and floppy due to a deflated cylinders....but usuable.
I developed good engorgement after my inital implant and actually began using my penis. I attribute to keeping it to my fitness and dedication to my physical health.
When I decided that it was time for a vasectomy....I figured it was time to get bionic again.
The engorgement that I retained after my revision is enough for penetration even without inflating. Not as stable of course but enough to get inside.
I am grateful I retained it. That was my biggest concern.
I am sure with inflating....It will be wonderful.

Dr. Unni (now retired) from NW Indiana.
My first implant was definitely undersized. 18 cm no rte- old style AMS700
Now have a 21cm + 1.5 / 2 rte AMS 700 CX.
It feels perfectly fit.
