Cronic Prostatitis and infection risk

Postby thx1138 » Fri Mar 10, 2023 12:43 am

So; the Viagra is fading and I am uncomfortable with needles. The next option is an implant.
The primary risk is infection. I have had chrinc Prostatitis on and off for decades. I am wondering
if anyone out there has had similar issues and if an infection in the prostate can increase the
risk of an infected implant.

Thanks

I'm no surgeon but I don't see how, as the implant is outside of the urinary tract. they will put in a Foley catheter for a short while so that could possibly affect your prostate. definitely ask your surgeon lots of questions

In a sense this is similar to my current concern. I am having a prostate biopsy done, which carries the risk of infection, and I am concerned about this infection, should it happen, spreading to my implant.

No doubt naively but I wonder if the tubing runs past the prostate or the reservoir sits beside it or something. Is this a completely dumb way of thinking about it?

I'm regretting not contacting an implant Dr to confirm this. I know the urologist doing it will say its fine but he isnt an implant specialist - introducing ANY risk of of infection into the implant changes the risk profile of doing the procedure.

Can't you still contact Dr. Eid's office about this?

Eid is reportedly back to work but, even if he's too busy to respond personally, his staff should be able to get an answer for you from him before your biopsy.

Good luck!
