I went to the Urologist today. I do not have a date for the surgery yet. I was given the option of which implant to get. I was shown examples of the two different brands. As I looked at them the AMS unit seemed very pliable and soft. The Coloplast was a firmer set of cylinders. The pump on the AMS seemed very good with a ridges and an obvious button to release it. It would seem the Coloplast was a little more hidden for release. I do not know what to choose. Any advice would be useful. I like that the Coloplast unit promotes stronger cylinders but you can see the "Dog Ear" characteristics I have seen talked about. I would hate the get the Coloplast and have issues with pumping and deflating. I am 71 and worry my hands may not have the stamina to pump and deflate the Coloplast. The AMS seems pretty simple in design for inflating and deflating. I am a smaller penis size of about 4.5 inches and want to keep as much as I can.
Any help and input would be appreciated.
Which implant to choose? AMS or Coloplast
Which implant to choose? AMS or Coloplast

Re: Which implant to choose? AMS or Coloplast
This is a can of worms.
Most men here prefer what was implanted in them but there are a few who don't (or at least have a few things to complain about).
I've got a Titan Touch. I like it because it immediately gave me 1/4" more girth (from 5.5 to 5.75" post op). The Titan is apparently made of a thicker and less pliable material which some complain does not hang like a "normal" penis would; more like semi-erect than fully flacid.. What I got is a fat chubby flacid show-er which took a little time to get use to because I was previously a grower. Some have a problem w/this. I do not.
I'm 72 and have no problem operating the pump/deflate button. The pump on the Touch was revised to eliminate the noisy pump on the Classic, which was the prior model, and to realign the tubing at the back of the pump in a triangular (instead of straight line) pattern to prevent kinking. Some docs still use the Classic because it's said to be more reliable than the Touch but it also has problems w/noise and tube kinking. I've had no problems w/my Touch so far but its only been 7 wks post op for me.
I don't have an AMS and I'm sure those who do will chime in.
What I know about the AMS is that it's made of a softer and more pliable material. It will hang more "naturally, as a result, but it will not provide as much girth as a Titan. However, the AMS is also said to have greater length potential than the Titan. On the downside, there are a lot of AMS patients here who complain about the pump being too hard to press (at least early on) and there are also said to be problems w/leaks in the tubing.
Docs who use both don't like to recommend one brand over the other because they need to stay on the "good side" of both manufacturers and don't want to be caught talking sh*t about one or the other.
FWIW, my doc switched from AMS to Titan because he and his patients were having too many problems w/the AMS. Another doc that I consulted with said the same thing.
Those docs in this situation will say that AMS & Titan are the of equal quality. That may be true but there are NOT the same. Pick the one that best meets your needs.
Good luck!

If you have any damage the stiffness of the Titan is used most. If you have size loss you are looking to restore the LGX is used if possible. Xtra large sizes are also a Titan application, but you said that is not the case. If erection angle is a concern, then Titan is also a selected device. Girth is also said to be a Titan advantage, but it depends on the size of the of the cylinders with the LGX matching the Titan in at least one size I read data on. The LGX does have a softer more concealable flaccid. As far as the pump I have little information on ease of use. My AMS MS pump seem to take all the hand strength I have to use. I believe my pump is larger than the Coloplast. Some with less room then choose the smaller pump. I told my doctor I wanted either an LGX as I had lost size to restore or a Titan. I did not consider the CX. And I left the choice to my doctor as to the best device for me. Hopefully someone else will post on the ease of use of the 2 brands. Titan has more issues with tubing problems as they do not produce that part in house. The LGX has more problems with the softer cylinders failing that the stiffer Titan. Both have about the same life span just different reasons for failure. If you have size loss from ED you should start VED therapy as soon as possible if you have not already started. There is a very good article on "Penis Exercise" in the documents worth reading thread in the general section of this forum.
Good luck and welcome.

Clavell has a 15 minute "How to Choose" video on Youtube that may be helpful.
I did the Titan but wasn't given a real choice. The urologist said the TItan was best given my penis dimensions. Whatever those are. I don't measure.

I picked the Titan but because I had scar damage due to Trimix reaction —- i wish I could have picked the AMS but the Titan was best if you have damage.

Re: Which implant to choose? AMS or Coloplast
Unfortunately I didn't find this site until after my surgery.
Based on my own research, I requested the AMS LGX because of the potential for restoration of pre-op length.
My doctor said that was his recommendation as well, though the final decision could change once the surgery started.
I would have liked to have read this site beforehand, but I still think I would have made the same decision.

Re: Which implant to choose? AMS or Coloplast
Here's the link to Dr. Clavell's video comparison. After I consulted with Dr. Clavell, he asked me if I had a particular implant in mind. I told him I had watched his video and could see the pros and cons of both, but I would rely on his experience to help me decide. After looking at me, he recommended the AMS, and that's what I was leaning towards anyway. I know that my penis will spend 99.9999% of the rest of my life not 'deployed'. During that time I don't want to think about it, and the pros of the AMS seemed more important to me. I know that's not the case for everyone, and I also know that Dr. Clavell implanted a Titan the same day he did my AMS.
I don't personally believe that a reputable doctor uses one over the other to keep their supplier happy. I do believe that one implant is nearly $1000 more expensive than the other, and that could play a role in which implant the doctor chooses when the studies show both options are generally the same in terms of outcome and satisfaction. I'm not aware of any doctors that adjust their fee based on what implant you choose, so the less expensive one would generate more income. If a high volume surgeon is doing 200 per year, and keeping $1000 more on each implant....well, that pays for the Lambo.
At first I too was very interested in the LGX because of the claim that it'll grow in both directions. I researched that claim and found that the length growth is minimal, and because of it's design it is the least rigid of the two AMS products. The CX is nearly as rigid as the Titan in longer lengths, and even more rigid than the Titan in smaller lengths, but you don't get the dog ears and crinkles. For me and my research, the CX was the sweet spot. I'm happy Dr. Clavell suggested the CX for my application, I'm just over 3 weeks post op and can tell that my wife and I will be very happy. I've read that many men have to back off a little bit because the rigidity can be too much for their partner, so it seems that both products are able to be more rigid than is necessary, which may make a rigidity argument moot.
Failures will happen with both (all) manmade products.
This may also be of interest, and 2020 comparison study. There are interesting results from studies in the body of the report, but here is the conclusion:
"Inflatable penile prostheses have been used successfully for ED not responsive to less invasive therapy. Both the AMS 700TM series and the Coloplast Titan® have three components, infection prevention mechanisms, and valves that make deflation easier for the user as well as prevent auto-inflation. We found little substantial difference between the two types of IPPs, with studies showing inconsistent minor superiority of one over the other. We recommend surgeons use their own clinical judgment and preference when choosing the right IPPs to use. Preoperative expectations may play an important role and further research controlling for this variable is necessary. Lastly, prospective randomized multicenter trials may ultimately determine the ideal prostheses for specific patients."

After my consult with Clavell, he suggested a Titan for myself. What was his justification for suggesting the AMS unit?

My guess is after looking at me and my anatomy he determined it would be the best fit for me. I can only surmise it's because I'm not particularly girthy, and the marginally narrower AMS would be better for my anatomy. We had also been discussing my lifestyle and my 35 yr. marriage to my only sex partner, my age, my plans for my penis going forward, etc. I don't have any proof of this, but I like to think Dr. Clavell took all the info I gave him into account and likely landed on the AMS as my best option just as I had after watching his comparison video.
Also, I've read studies that show the Titan may be slightly better for men with Peyronie's disease, which I don't have.
