You can't.

As already noted, the "going rate" for IPP implants done by high volume surgeons used by men here is around $20k. My doc said he charged $19k to his uninsured patients.

That should be your benchmark for the "out of pocket" medical cost. Travel & other costs are of course extra.

From $20k to $85k is a factor of four.

I don't pinch pennies and try to go for the best.

How can I reconcile some surgeons charging four times as much?

Thank you

Don't worry. Those sky high prices are a game the doctors & insurance companies play. All insurances negotiate on the price. They don't pay what is billed. The medical people get what they want & the insurance feels good about the bargain that they negotiated.
What matters is the cash price. The Medicare price is very close to the cash price. So I'm sure that the insurance price is about the same.

True but it's basically free if you're over 65 and are covered by Medicare.

Not True! Medicare A only covers hospital expenses. You need to have Medicare B as well, which is an elective insurance you pay for out of your SS check. Then you still need to cover the yearly deductible.

Old guy. Yes you're correct. I personally do not know anybody in our circle of friends that only has A. Most even have an Advantage plan.
I don't know if Medicare has more than 1 deductable. I know that I get hit for $50 on the first cpap mask that I buy per year. I'm trying to get a new Bipap machine. I'm a little curious on what that'll cost me.

Thank you. This explains what I was missing. The street price is plus or minus $20.

Question RPS,
Do you have Medicare? My implant procedure would have cost approx. $25K. With Medicare $0.
just saying,

A few years too young for Medicare. I wish it was more years away. But hey, I'm still kicking.

Post RP, I'm getting along fine with Quad Mix at the moment.

One thing I'm curious about is how men would weight the value of delaying the procedure by months, compared to being larger after the procedure. In other words, if you could have a penis 1.5 inches longer would you delay surgery by six months.

I see comments about stretching and such being suggested by surgeons in advance of the procedure. In the last few years I've experimented with various rehab options after my RP. None worked to my satisfaction so I developed my own process that worked for me and a few other people. We get about 0.02" per day so it's not even visible day by day, but it adds up.

I have been wondering if this could be successfully added ahead of implant surgery for most men. It would add some cost. Because it's "cosmetic" I doubt Medicare or insurance would pay. That means it would probably be 100% on the patient. That's why I wanted to range of implant procedure costs to put costs into perspective.

Apart from that, the next question is how desperate the average patient is to get their implant once they make the decision. If there is no panic then waiting about six months might not be a problem in exchange for being bigger forever. The process takes about three months, but I would want the surgeon to be 100% confident that the penis size they are basing the implant on will be permanent.

I personally would wait, but I'm having sex a few times a week. On the other hand if I was at my emotional end and salvation via implant was only a few weeks away, then maybe not.

My 85k is gross to insurance. Gross to Gross to bcbs. They adjust down. I'm responsible for about 15% of 29k. So about 5k....? So gross net. WORTH EVERY PENNY.. I would only go with the best. And I am so cheap it's ridiculous. I think they did a little extra work on my frame besides the normal. Dr Stuart has been doing this since 1982. Only shows on surgery day. Hall of fame type doctor on skill level. My opinion. I'm 100% healed. No issues. I worry about everything else now but NOT ED.YEAH. USC. LA.
RP 2015. all downhill real fast. 2022 consulting doctor at USC. Apptmt is in November going bionic??

wow prices have really gone up with inflation. about 3 years ago was seeing costs ranging from 12 to 14K and higher. Now seems the floor is 20K.

I recall 14-18 but I honestly can not say at what time they were accurate for. Consider what the inflation rate was last year plus whatever it was in 2021 & 2020. Do the math, it runs prices up fast.
I've maintained for a long time that the average working man can't fight inflation. Even if you have excellent COLA's built into your wages. The COLA adjustments are alway a year behind. So you basically eat the inflation for a year before you get the COLA.
