Dr. Eid 'activates' you and tells you to start cycling on day 3 post-implant, while Dr. Clavell seems to do the same only 6 weeks after implant. How can two great doctor's have such different timelines for the same thing? What is the reasoning behind each timeline? Surely one of the two timelines must generally lead to better outcomes. Please let me know what you think.
Pardon me if I'm confusing two different things here, please let me know if I am. Thank you.

Re: Why the difference in time to start cycling?
I was wondering the same thing. Speaking from personal experience, there's no way I was ready to cycle on day 3 ! I had a wound. Surgical incisions that were red , swollen and sore AF . Also they were covered in Surgical glue , keeping the incisions together and infection out . My ONLY concern at that early in the heeling process was to keep infection at bay . I was terrified of that . I couldn't even imagine handing and squeezing the pump that quick after surgery. I was all heeled up by week 4 . I texted Dr. Clavell and sent pics of the incisions asking if I could start cycling. He approved . I think you're asking a good question. How can 2 Doctors, recognized as the best in the field , have such dramatic views on when to start cycling? I can't wait to hear myself.

Re: Why the difference in time to start cycling?
I too contacted Clavell at 4 weeks and sent him pics and he cleared me to start cycling. I think the 6 weeks is to set expectations in case there's an issue.
In my case, Dr. Clavell ran into scar tissue in one of my corpora, which prohibited him from getting the dilator all the way up into my glans. There was no reason there should have been scar tissue there, I never had an injury and never injected anything. No sign of damage on the outside of penis either.
Anyway, after trying smaller dilators and having no luck, he had to cut into the left corpora just below the glans and remove the scar tissue and sew it back up before inserting the cylinder on that side.
There is no way I'd be cycling with that healing incision in the corpora in less than 4 weeks, and as Journeyman said, the more you have your grimy hands down there around the scrotal incision, the more you risk infection. Dr. Clavell cleared me to cycle at 4 weeks, but asked me to wait on using it as intended with my wife until 6 weeks. Seems cycling isn't as "rigorous" on the new incision as other things might be...
Also, on day 3 I think I would have had a tougher time with my scrotum and the pump/deflate. Although I could feel and identify all the parts of the pump from day 1, the sensitivity of my scrotum and skin was not normal for a few weeks.
If you have a infrapubic installation, I can see how you could be cycling earlier.

I wondered this too. My doctor is as high volume as it gets. Well over 8000 implant surgeries at this point I’m sure.
I just had surgery three days ago, and he left me 25 percent inflated and I’m instructed not to lift anything over 10 pounds for 3 weeks, and then at the 6 week mark I go in to get activated and shown how to begin cycling.

I think Jage64 brings up a good point... penoscrotal vs infrapubic surgeries! Are we comparing Apples to Apples ? He might of come up with the answer

I think Dr. Eid does penoscrotal AND has his guys cycling within days. The thought of squeezing down there during my penoscrotal recovery so soon is terrifying. I just accepted the hassle of 6 weeks of inflation and when i started it was a breeze. Almost a breeze.

Re: Why the difference in time to start cycling?
Ah...... yes doctors differ and men having this surgery differ also. The early activation is a result of this study showing a loss of size for longer activation wait times. https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... prosthesis Dr. Eid does have men begin cycling if they can at 3 days. But some or even a good many men cannot. But I think even a little bit of cycling will help and the earlier the better. My doctor was 3 weeks and said I did well and could start a few days earlier. This paper sign on by doctor Perito had men activate at an average of 8 days. Ranging from 5-12 days. This is one reason an electric pump is in the works. Just because a man is cleared to activate at a certain number of days not all do. The learning curve can prolong any helpful cycling. And problems with quirky pumps contribute also. When I had my surgery my local doctors were activating men at 8 weeks. My limit was 3 weeks when I was doing my surgeon search. My choice and others will have different limits or even have no concern for it at all. My guess is that longer activation wait time is done for reducing infection rate and that size loss takes a back seat to that for many doctors. A few doctors do work to prevent size loss as much as they can and have surgery methods that permit early activation. Up to you if you want a doctor that activates early or not.

Re: Why the difference in time to start cycling?
When I was texting Dr. Clavell the afternoon after I had my surgery that morning . I was asking if he pumped me up 100% ? ( My dick was hard as a rock! ) He said no , that he pumps up to approximately 60% . He also said the reason I was so hard was because of the swelling. The MOST IMPORTANT part after surgery is to NOT get an infection ! It's all for nothing if you do . Maybe that's why he pumps to 60% . Your cylinders are probably extended all ( or most ) of the way just not as stiff . It also leaves plenty of fluid in the reservoir ( he told me he put extra saline in the reservoir, more than the cylinders can hold ) . This should prevent the surgical capsule from being restrictive as it starts to form . In one if Dr. Clavell's video he said it takes months for the surgical capsule to fully form . That's why cycling is important. Keep expanding the tunica AND surgical capsule ( and just importantly- the reservoirs capsule . So you can fully deflate) .

Re: Why the difference in time to start cycling?
I'll give my two cents worth, I would say it really all depends on how far you have healed and pain tolerance. If your incision hasn't healed up properly, manipulating that area could cause it to open up, also I would think it might also depend on exactly what all the Dr did while inside there. Did he just put in the dilators with no issue, or did he have to do some modifications? If he had to make some cuts and stitched you up inside, inflating fully might break or tear them loose.
Has the patient fully researched what all is actually involved and can they reach the pump easily enough? There are plenty of variables that might make it where one person can handle inflating fully at 3 days, while someone else may not until everything is fully healed up.
