Hey all, how goes it.
Had my first face to face consultation today with Dr. Ralph. He seemed quite chilled about the whole thing and wasn't fussed about my weight. He has asked me to stay overnight at the hospital but I forgot to ask him why. Is it normal to have to stay over?
I was very tense about going in today, was dreading this whole thing, but am feeling more positive after going through it.

Re: Had Face to Face Consultation Today
In the US it is a health insurance and cost driven policy to send the man home after surgery. That being said you are required to have a caretaker to drive you home. If you are alone and a health escort is not available, you may be kept overnight. I traveled for my surgery and was alone and was kept overnight for what they called a 23 hour stay. My local doctors also held men over night and added the additional cost to the man's bill as it was not covered by insurance. The first 24 to 48 hours are important to stay as flat as you can to reduce swelling and have an easier recovery. I think that my stay helped a lot with this. I took no pain pills after surgery and just Tylenol for my ride home the next morning. Doctor skill has a lot to do with this also. And the amount of work the doctor has to do to place the device. Men are different and if the man has scaring and plaque that has to be removed to place the device there is more injury to heal.
Being sent home the day of surgery is generally the rule but an overnight stay is not uncommon. If you compare this to an ankle injury where you are best to keep a shoe or boot on and keep the ankle elevated and then apply a cold pack this makes a bit more sense. I am not aware of how things work with your doctor. I had a compression dressing on and a catheter in after surgery. And was flat on my back util I was to be released and dressed the next morning. My cath was removed the next morning before I was to be released. And I was able to urinate before I left. The compression bandage I was instructed to be remove once I was back in my hotel room. Had I been discharged the day of the surgery I would have had the cath in and would have had it removed by my caretaker or myself the next morning and then also the compression dressing. I think an over night stay is a good thing if you can get it and stay flat on your back after surgery. It is also important to stay as flat as you can if released the same day and for the first 48 hours and then gradually increase activity each day after wards. I had discharge instructions and you should follow those. If you can get a copy of the discharge instructions ahead of time then you can get anything listed that you need before the surgery.

Ok excellent. I'm paying out of pocket in the UK but feel ok now about the overnight stay, don't want to rush any of this now. But am finally looking forward to getting this done. There is hope shining through now.

My check in was at noon for overnight stay. The men being sent home that day were earlier checking in. Let's you sleep in that morning.

I'm an early check-in, 7am, but don't mind staying now, so all good. But the price for the stay

So far Oldboy it has come to £15280. Ralph's charge was: £11580, then hospital overnight and anaesthetist etc charge is: £3700.
Doesn't help that it is in central bloody London.
