Anyone used Dr. Meyer's at NW Sexual Medicine?

Postby sayasukasusu » Mon Jul 29, 2013 11:50 am

Anyone had experience or know anything about Dr. Meyer's and/or NW Sexual Medicine in Portland OR?

He says they do Penile implants, but I have never seen them mentioned on this site. If they are a good as any, I really prefer not traveling, and I live in Portland with my son who could look after me post Op.

But Medicare will pay for it, so no reason to go second class just to avoid expense and inconvinience of long distance travel.

Any Opinions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gary,

I don't know of your doctor, but I can tell you that I used my own Urologist when it came time to do my implant. At 11 weeks from surgery and 5 of those pumping I'm now up to more than my original stretched length and have gained in girth as well. He did a great job of sizing me which is the most critical part they say. If you're considering an AMS, I've heard on here that they train their approved surgeons so you get that extra expertise as well as your doc's own. You don't have to go to a fancy name brand doctor if you don't want to. Regular Uro/Surgeons can do a great job as I can attest to. I've had no complications and am healing up well. He did a good job on me and probably yours would too. But I'd do some more research on them and see how many they do and see if you can talk to one of their past patients about their services. It's good to know as much as you can. You're doing it right.

Good luck to you,
Steve

Gary,

Just like Steve mentioned, I, too, used my own urologist to do the surgery. He did a fantastic job and I am progressing through the healing process much faster than I expected. I had an AMS MS700LGX implanted 19 days ago and have been inflating/deflating since day 8. I had my fist post-op appointment this past Wednesday and my surgeon says he's very satisfied with the outcome and I ALSO AM VERY SATISFIED. I came out of surgery EXACTLY the same size as I was pre-op and have been able to stretch the post-op size a bit because I have the LGX. I am hopeful that I can continue to gain in length and girth as time goes by. I am encouraged by Steve's comments about continuing to grow and stretch the tissue.

A question most guys want to know before considering a surgeon is how many surgeries he does in a year. I had a wonderful relationship with my surgeon and he has impeccable bedside manners and for some reason, I didn't worry about his number of surgeries. In fact, I asked him during my post-op appointment this week how may he has done so far this year and his answer was THREE, including mine. I was not concerned that I couldn't travel to one of the BIG FIVE surgeons. As Steve mentioned, I, too, can attest to the fact that many local surgeons can do superb work, even though they cannot compete with the recognized specialists. However, I must add that my urologist was trained by Dr. Karpman in California and my surgeon’s partner was trained by Dr. Eid in New York. I am sure that was also beneficial. And the AMS representative was part of my surgical team and according to my surgeon, he was a tremendous help in selecting the correct prosthesis and making sure the implant was up to and actually surpassed AMS's expectations. And besides, the AMS rep gave me my "membership card" and practice pump when I woke up in recovery!

Also as Steve mentioned, the most critical part of the surgery is correct measuring for cylinder size. Since I had been following a daily vacuum therapy protocol for 4 months prior to surgery, my surgeon felt comfortable stretching my penis to its maximum as he measured because he knew that I had been pre-stretching the tunica and the cavernosa for over 4 months. And I also made it very clear to my surgeon (and my wife did also) that post-op size was the most important part of the surgery experience as far as I was concerned. And as mentioned above, he didn’t disappoint me or my wife!

Don’t be afraid to discuss ANY concern you might have with your surgeon. He’s heard all the questions before and it is his responsibility to make sure that you, as his patient, clearly understand what is going to happen and what you can expect the outcome to be. YOU ARE HIS PATIENT….HE SHOULD EXPECT YOU TO BE SATISFIED WITH THE OUTCOME OF YOUR SURGERY.

I wouldn’t change ANYTHING about my experience and outcome. IT’S FANTASTIC! Blessings to you as you move through this experience.

Update-Re: Anyone used Dr. Meyer's at NW Sexual Medicine?

Hello all:

Today Dr. Meyer pushed a long camera up my penis (ouch), and into my bladder to look for cancer; The good news, NO CANCER IN THE BLADDER. He said the blood that comes every time I pee now should stop in about 3 days :-) It actually stopped in 24 hours, so looks like my clotting works good.

Then we moved on from my bladder to my prostate, which he discribed with words I did not understand. So I told him that the Doc at my check up in Bangkok used the technical term "HUGE" to describe my prostrate. Dr. Meyers replied, "Yes, technically speaking, HUGE is the proper discription" :-)

So the next step, on 27 Sept, He puts a camera into my rear end to look for a nice spot on my prostate, then use a tiny tool to clip a bit for a biopsy, because my PSA is 10, whatever that means. Turns out there are two kinds of prostate cancer, what he calls good cancer, and bad cancer. But turns out this is NOT like good and bad cholesterol, as there really is no such thing as "good" cancer, it is just a kind of cancer that will do no harm, unless our lives are extended to 200 years or more :-) If "bad" cancer is found, it's easy to take care of now, but 2 years more could make it fatal, or worse.

I am not looking forward to the biopsy, but cannot afford not to do it, because in 6 days I turn 78, and want to extend at least 10 more years.

As soon as we know the results of the prostrate biopsy, we will schedule the implant.

As Betty Davis said, "Getting old is not for sissy's".

Gary

PS: All ladies out there sure are lucky they do not have to put up with prostrate problems :-)

PPS: Dr Meyers agreed that if Oboma care comes in, they will cut Medicare, and things like implants will be the first to go. Medicare has approved my implant, so I'm doing it soon as possible to be sure Medicare pays for it.

Yes Gary I know what you mean about the cystoscope run up your penis  , I have had about 30 of them done since my last two bladder cancers, one every 3 months. My Dr even tried to to a biopsi in his office on my bladder and almost killed me from the pain :o , I had to go to the hospital to have it removed any way. The only good thing was a good looking nurse assisting him :D

I cannot believe how smoth it went, and how little pain. Dr meyer does not expect any complications as I tured out to be an easy case. Looka likw I can return to the Philippines in about 6 weeks, ready for action.

I cannot express how greatful I am to all your post, which prepared me for the worst, while hoing for the best.

I'll keep you posted as I recover.

Hello everyone. I had the procedure done Oct 1. These are going well so far.Very little swelling and pain. Thank you for your post and giving me insight on what to expect.

At age54 had prostate cancer and had it removed and year and half later had to do radiation. Erection had been flustratiing to have for several months. My doctor went to pushing me to have implant. (Little secret is he had one put in the first of the year) As of right now cancer free.

48 hours post op now, and feel great. No more blood in my pee, and all other bleeding stopped too. And the pain at tip of penus when I pee is now gone too. The post op instructions say there might be some pain on 3ed or 4th day posyt op, so I will not hesitate to take pain pills if needed.

The surgery was done by Dr, Meyers at Providense St. Vincent Medical center, and both Dr. Meyers and St. Vincent, and it's entire staff, were fantastic. I highly recomend both if you are west coast and want to avoid heavey travel ex[enses, as i did.

Thanks for all the best wishes from your replies.
