Man that was stupid

Postby JohnHC » Tue Jul 25, 2023 10:32 am

Man I was stupid the other day. When I was cycling the other night I thought let me try to see if I can pump it up one handed. The AMS pump bulb has those ridges on it so I should be good to go right? I got 2 or 3 good hard full pumps in and thought yeah this'll be easy and ok, the next pump / squeeze about mid pump that thing squirts out like a squeezed grape. Hurt for a bit, I know there isn't any damage other than pride and the fact that pump was like a rocket that collided with the left boy. So from here on I can say with experience, you'll want to hang on and grip those tubes at the top when you want to pump it up, otherwise it might ruin your evening if that thing squirts out and bounces off of one of the boys just before the fun starts.

I only pump my AMS CX one handed. My pump is on the high side. Can't fly south very much. I make sure that I grip the bulb a bit towards the deflate button when squeezing. Best to position your fingers on the bulb radius in a direction that the bulb can't squirt away from your fingers by much.
I will agree that my pump is a bit high. I pulled it down as instructed but it just wouldn't go down. Drs nurse did comment that it might need to be moved. I'll see what my 3 month appointment says.
I have a large scrotum. The contents match the skin available. So hopefully if I get it moved I won't have a different problem show up.
As is, the pump is a little more visible than what I think is ideal. But hell, at my age what do I care if it shows?
Most women my age have nipples that point at the ground so what does a lump in my sack matter?

:D Been there, done that.
It takes a lot of practice to learn how to pump up one handed.

I've had the same thing happen to me many times. One time I pinched my nutsack so hard that it started bleeding. I've tried several pumping techniques and after trial an error decided this one was the best for me . I use my thumb and curled up index finger on my right hand ( my dominant hand ) to squeeze the bulb. Then I cup my left hand over the right hand . Using both hand muscles and forearm muscles to squeeze generates the most power, and force that saline into the cylinders. The bonus is you won't slip off and nut pinch . I didn't pioneer this technique and am not claiming I did . I think I actually saw it on one Dr. Clavells cycling video on YouTube. Try it out .

Journeyman - that actually how I usually pump it up, just thought I'd give it a try and see how hard it was to do it one handed, in case my other hand is busy or is incapacitated in some way.

The tubing connecting the pump to the cylinders is the weakest part of the device at least on the coloplast and I would bet money on the AMS as well. I would strongly advise not griping the tubing and disturbing it as little as possible for longevity. If you pump the bulb with 3 fingers instead of two that will help prevent it from jumping out.

I always pump my Titan one-handed. I use my middle two fingers and squeeze the bulb against the flesh of my palm. That seems to keep the bulb locked in place so that it doesn't "squirt out" the way you described. I normally do it right handed, but it works left handed as well.

AMS recommends this technique when inflating, that junction on the AMS pump is noticeably reinforced.

I cannot inflate my AMS with one hand to more than about 70-80%, and this requires more than 50 squeezes. By gripping the pump with my left hand from its sides, I can do about 30 wall-to-wall pumps to fully inflate. This didn't change since I could inflate to 100% (2-3 moths after activation).
Inflating with one hand can cause the pump to slip, which is painful, and I believe it can cause damage to the connection with the tubing. I would try to avoid that as much as I can.
Many people have unexplained tubing failure, but no one would be able to know if it is an implant or use issue.
