Why is an implant "last resort"?

Postby ctcolantro » Tue Aug 01, 2023 7:52 pm

Just a question for all of you out there. I think it's absurd that an implant is the very LAST choice for most. Even on FT, the Implants board is described as the final frontier. I'm not saying that it should be pushed on everyone with ED, but to purposely exhaust every single option before going with an implant seems wrong. To go through multiple disappointments by way of chemical treatments, and put on hold a solid performing biomechanical solution?

Simple answer. Because you can’t go back. Once the surgery is done you can’t change your mind. That’s why it’s the last option.

That's true, it is a very simple answer to the wrong question. Why would someone change their mind about having an erection?

I dont think it should be, the implant is fing amazing, orgasms last three times as long, way more intense. I have read some hard recoverys but I haven’t read any where people just said f it, had it removed and their junk never worked again… and we are on a board where people post problems.

Now, some people lose length and some lose girth, and some people take months and months before being able to comfortably use them. My recovery was easy, i could be singing a different toon if i was still in massive pain 3 months later. My thoughts are if you dont have a bunch of scaring/ peyronies you have a very high chance of being over the moon happy.

I dont like putting chemicals in my body, so totally with you on that line of thinking.

hello, why do you say if you don't have a lot of fear/ peyronies... do you think that with peyronie it is more difficult to have a good result?

You’re coming off like a troll. Who said anything about changing their mind to have an erection? If almost everyone but you is saying it’s considered a last resort, as you said in your question, then there must be a reason.

You asked why it was called a last resort. It’s because there are other non-surgical options to get an erection. That’s the answer to the question you asked.

I had great success with pills for years. I didn’t even consider the implant. Until they didn’t work. I was perfectly happy on daily cialis.

Well, I wouldn’t say it’s last resort at all. I think injections are far worse in my short experience with them.
I would say pills first, and if that failed implant based on your age and how long you have been living with ED.
Implants up until 3 years ago were not allowed to be suggested by doctors as a first line of defense treating ED. Now, the patient can decide. It is recommended to go pills, injections, then implant. But, I personally, if pills quit working would go straight to implant.

I just never thought of it. The first that I ever heard of having a pump to get an erection was Paul Castellano getting killed by John Gotti because he had one. Couldn’t take orders from a man who couldn’t get it up. I’m sure that there were other motives too.
Maybe 2 years ago I read about an actor who claimed that he loved his. He said that it freed him up to do many more scenes and could compete with the younger performers. He made it sound great but it wasn’t for me then. I still had hope that a procedure would work or if all else fails then injections. When trimix didn’t work I went to a therapist. God bless my girlfriend because she sought and found Dr Clavell. I’m writing this post typing around my 7 day old dick sticking up between me and the iPad. I would like to have avoided the years of pills and pumps and supplements and VED and needles and going to therapy to ask what’s wrong with me? Honestly I was open to getting a transplant if that is even an option. Today I would have liked to have known earlier the reality of an implant. At least what I’ve experienced so far.

7 months postop here. Very satisfied. I just finished a solid 1 hour session with my lady this morning.

For me, the shots still worked, for awhile, then i’d lose my wood after about :20. Veinous leakage. I could have kept on but decided that since i still had good blood flow in, engorging they glans and all, i wouldn’t be that guy who waits until he can’t get it up at all.

Dr. Perito says “the day of your last erection is the day your penis starts to shrink”.

I heeded that advice. So i guess it wasn’t last resort, but a conscious decision while i still had an option. Works for me.
Active, athletic 63 years old. Sexually, still 33 in my mind and spirit. Pills and injections all worked, until they didn’t. Diagnosed with veinous leakage in 2022. Coloplast Titan. 22 CM. No RTE. Peno-scrotal. Implanted 1/4/23. Dr. Clavell.

Absolutely agree with the original question!

I have always considered that the implant had no character of "last solution" after all the others.
For some, including me, the implant can perfectly be a free and informed choice of first intention when erectile problems arise.
You can very well choose right away THE formula that will allow you to free yourself for several years from any questioning about "will it work the next time?"

This peace of mind that gives the 100% erection is incomparable.

Skipping chemical and random steps is very much one of the few big choices in life!
The key is to be well informed and to accept the (rare and possible) inconveniences that may arise.
