Cash or Finance

Does everyone here pay cash for this, or have insurance. Does anyone utilize any financing at all ? if so, what are the best options out there.

In the USA, I’d think a sizable chunk of guys have insurance coverage. Medicare & Tricare both pay, although depending on somebody’s plan the co-pay might be between $3000-$5000. When I had mine done they (doctor+hospital) billed $53000. Tricare allowed $19000. I would have had to eat 20% of that ($3800) except we had hit our catastrophic cap for the year.

Some guys have insurance plans that say not only no but hell no. Of course if they were transgender they would pay for the surgery. Gimme a break. Anyway, these guys who can’t get it via insurance and are too young to wait for Medicare suck it up and pay cash.

The going rate for this varies by doctor, 3 1/2 years ago when I had mine done I did ask if the insurance refused to pay how much would it cost. As uncomplicated outpatient surgery I was told $17000. I think for reading other guys’ posts that you can still find really hood, high volume surgeons in the USA willing to do it for between $17K & $22K.

Some guys have that in their back pocket. Some have that much in the bank. There are any number of third party lenders who will finance the procedure and the interest rates are higher than a home mortgage but less than credit card interest.

If a guy has equity built up in their home taking a second mortgage or a line of credit using home to secure the note might get you a more favorable rate.

I believe there are insurance plans you can get via the ACA marketplace that will cover the procedure, but if I’m not mistaken they’re pretty expensive and require a wait before treating ED as a preexisting condition. By the time you buy one of those policies you could have had the surgery done and been well on your way to oaying off the medical loan.

Some really good information above that covers this really well. About the only thing I would like to add is what happens if you are one of the very few unlucky men who need a reoperation. If your insurance does not pay for an implant I would think they would still cover care for infection but most likely not cover the cost of a replacement implant. There is a company called Surgeo self-pay medical that has cash prices and I think also financing. They also have a 3rd party insurance plan to help cover reoperation for 12 months from the surgery date. I have not heard of anyone who has used them and do not know if the insurance is stand up or running off and hiding if there is a need for it. I just wanted to add this bit of info to the very good info above.

I'm from USA, paid cash in India. Could've waited and gone through the VA and gotten it for free most likely but I didn't have the time to wait for that process to play out. Had a very short period of time where I could do this so for me it made sense to just pay for it myself. The rigicon comes with a lifetime warranty but I'm assuming the doctor would have to still be paid for his time.

If I ever have a serious problem with it I'll probably go through the VA and let them install a new device. I'm about to be surrounded by hot women for the next few years on a daily basis and there's no way I was going to show up with excuses why I can't fuck any of them. Now I'm showing up fully bionic and couldn't be happier about it .

May 1, 2023. Between Medicare & my Advantage insurance plan. I paid a few dollars for 1 days worth of antibiotics for some bacteria they found in my urine sample. The lab work was too close to my previous lab work so I had to pay $190 for the lab work. A few weeks later & they would of covered it. A weeks worth of pain pills might of been around $10. Yesterday I think I paid $38 for god knows what. It didn't matter, it was cheap. So all in & all done for under a $250 copay. Heck, it was cheaper than a couple of scripts of Viagra. Definitely works better & sure will last longer.
Geez, at that price. I don't fear a revision. Bring it on.

I am typically the kind of person that weighs the interest rate of the loan against what my money can make if its invested.

Another possibility is to check other insurance plans available. Perhaps you can find something that will cover it.

That stinks. How specific is the exclusion? Sometimes a doctors billing office can manipulate insurance with a different code.
My co-pay was about $3,500 through UHC. Denied at first, billing office sent another request. Approved!

Could be worse, I called my insurance to see if I was covered, was told on not once but three times that both the operation and device were covered. After the surgery I get a "explanation of benefits" letter saying it's not covered because it's in my exclusions ( which I didn't know anything about because we didn't have exclusions when we first signed up or weren't notified about any.) And to top it off I had to have the device replaced because it was defective about 2 months later. So my first EOB said I owed around $92000 about $50000 was the device. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop with a EOB from the second surgery, probably another $92000 but should get a credit for the bad device... The insurance sucks because they told me, my Dr, and the hospital that it was covered, then balk when it's time to pay.... Still have no idea how I'm going to be able to pay that bill....
