Need physcological help....
I went to my Uro today.....she says it's time for me to make a decision.....Implant. I have used meds before, they stopped working. Then went to pump. It was too mechanical, but effective. The Drawback.....time limited. Then went to Trimax. There's something not natural about shooting your manhood with a needle. I am right handed and could only shoot myself on the right side, thus causing junior to lean to the right. Then went back to the pump.....nothing changed.....Too mechanical. So my Uro, is trying to convince me the Implant Benefits. I know the final decision is up to me, which is the problem. A 72 year old DIABETIC man, that's is scured shytless. Are there any links or videos that can help a scared man with the decision to lay on the surgical table? I was told, expect approx 8 weeks to heal. Hell, I hate the dentist visit. So is there anyone in here can help me or convince me to make this decision? Thank you in advance. The surgical doctor would be Dr. Charles Kaplan, in Georgia. Oh, by the way.....Gonna give Trimix one more try.
72, AMS 700 LGX. Married to an Angel. Discovered ED at 67. Path = Diabetic, Supplements, Pills, Needle, Pump, and finally AMS 700 (2-8-24).
Re: Need physcological help....
This is a difficult choice. I had nothing before surgery. Never tried the VED for sex as I was single and not a good thing for dating. And as you said instruction limit the amount of time and the number of times a week. Some men push that limit to extremes but that can result in damage and make implant more difficult and cause size loss from scar tissue. The same with injections on the number of times a week but you can have longer erections and injections as you posted can cause some damage with again the same scar tissue that will make implant more difficult and can cause size loss. But some on this site have not had bad effects from injections and are able to dial in the amount of time they will be erect with dosage. Pills nor injections did anything for me. When I decided to have the surgery and could have it done I was a changed person. I was a lot happier even before the surgery. I knew the risks. But I was committed to get this part of me back. I can now have an erection anytime I want for as long as I want. No pills, injections, or external mechanical devices. My pain was low for this. Both for my first and for my repair. Flaccid is now good and I do not have to work to stretch my penis out to take a piss.
I would add that 8 weeks is a bit low. Think about knee surgery and say being able to walk in 8 weeks. But it takes longer to fully recover and walk normally. I told myself I would wait a year to judge my implant. I had size loss and set some goals to recover as much as I could. I had gains out past a year. Some people heal faster and others slower. Just do what you can to be as healthy as possible going into the surgery. Manage all your health problems. Exercise as much as you can starting now. This includes VED therapy for exercise to help prevent size loss from surgery. As we older guys have less time left I would get on this as soon as you can. A lot of things I can no longer do that I could when I was younger. Really nice to have this part of me back. And it has really helped my mental health. But it is up to you. No one else can make the choice. Whatever you decide will be right for you.

I made the choice after i got to a point of where i thought….. well, if it doesn’t work who cares, my dick wont work either way, at least i tried. Glad the implant worked, like 96 percent of patients are happy with the procedure. Find anything else in life with that high of satisfaction rate.

Re: Need physcological help....
I guess my first question is what, exactly, about the situation scares you?
You’re 72 with diabetes. Apparently they have it controlled well enough to recommend surgery. It can slow the healing process some but no two guys heal exactly alike anyhow.
If you’ve used pills, ved, and injections and find them ineffective/cumbersome/undesirable then the implant is the next logical step.
I’m gonna give you my perception. This is my view. It might not match other guys and it doesn’t mean you’ll have the same outcome.
It really wasn’t a big deal. Other than bruising, soreness, and it taking a year of cycling my pump to get my original size back, thus was about like a hernia operation.
I lived 1 1/4 hrs from hospital. Left house at 0440 for 0600 check in. Was on my way to surgery prep at 7. Out of recovery by 9. Discharged before 11. Had lunch at chick-fil-a on ride home.
Pain pills for a couple of days to make sure I was comfortable while I slept but after that nothing at all. I drove 180 mi RT day after surgery, 120 mi to/from doctor on day 3. I couldn’t do much physically (throwing hay bales or feed sacks to cows) for a while, gym was off limits for over a month, but I wasn’t an invalid by any means.
I was 63 when I had it done. I wish I’d done it sooner. If it breaks I’ll do it again.
Yes, only you can make the decision. You know yourself, your body, and your reaction to medical care far better than anyone. I had gotten to the point shots had limited effectiveness and I was at the “what the hell?” Point.
It’s normal to worry, have a bit of fear, second guess your decision. Most of us went thru those stages. The vast majority of us emerge from the experience wondering why we made such a big deal of it.
One thing you ought to consider, being in Georgia: Dr Hakky in Atlanta. I would say he’s on a small list of very high volume surgeons who are the best of show for this procedure. People put him in the same class as Dr Eid, Dr Perito, Dr Clavell, and a few others. I’m in Texas. I went to my nearby high volume implant guy in Austin instead of Clavell in Houston. No regrets and I appreciated the Dr being just over an hour away instead of 4 hours. But if Atlanta is within your travel radius I think I’d get a consult with him.
Regardless of what you do, best of luck. In retrospect, and with complete honesty, I didn’t think this was too bad of a surgery or recovery.

Re: Need physcological help....
It was fear. Fear & curiosity, that brought me to this forum almost 1 year ago. My ability to keep an erection more than even :20 minutes with a very high dose of Trimix was fading. My sexual confidence was in the tank. My highly-sexed wife and I split.
Through this forum I transitioned mentally from that mindset of being abhorred at the thought of a mechanical device surgically implanted in my most sensitive part to actually doing it 10 1/2 months ago. Overcoming my fears was a slow process that i was able to overcome with the knowledge and support from other mature and brave men who’d actually done it and were willing to share their experience. The support was invaluable.
My advice to you in the coming days is to binge-read everything you can on this forum. Go back several years. Typically men will find this forum, participate for several months as they embark on their own journey, chronicling their experiences. After awhile, once they’re fully recovered, they move on with their lives. The lineup of regulars changes with time. But the legacy they leave can genuinely help you with your fears. Almost everything you are concerned with now has been discussed. So devote yourself to reading and learning.
We have a member, “Tangerine”, who produced one of the best journals ever written discussing many aspects of the journey. Physical and psychological. You can type his name in the search box. Dig around and look for his journal. I even downloaded it into my ipad and read it, again, in its entirety the day before my surgery. That report was largely responsible for me deciding to proceed.
Today, my dick is harder than when i was a teenager and my girlfriend, 1/2 my age, could not be happier. I’m one of the 96% satisfied. Sure, i’d prefer the natural erection of my youth, but given what unfolded to be my two choices, impotence or the implant, I definitely made the right choice.
My only other word advice, echoed endlessly here, is go to a HIGH VOLUME surgeon. Many uros will “do it”, but the high volume guys have near-perfected their craft. Don’t take chances.
