how to search for a doctor.

I used physician finder here FT and there's 2 in a 3 hour drive from me - not shocked - but when I google search about them there's not much information. As I'm sure everyone here has pretty much researched the hell out of their doctors I was hoping someone would post how to search for the doctor -

Healthgrades or WebMD might be a place to start. Docs who treat ED are men's sexual health urologists.
If you mention the area you're looking for a doc in someone might possibly be able to help.

Finding an implant doctor is not an easy task. I looked for a long time to find an implant specialist in my area with no luck. I found a surgeon about 2 hours away, and the first words out of his mouth was, you're going to lose size. I found he does maybe 50 implants a year and only offers AMS-700. You can search in the Coloplast and Boston Scientific web sites and you will get a list of physicians. However, when you look them up, little or nothing is said about their implant experience. So the only way to find out anything about them is to make an appointment. What you want is a doc who specializes in implants. That is someone who does a lot of them. Then try to check reviews. I ended up selecting Dr. Clavell even though he is an 18 hour drive. I feel more confident with him than any others I contacted. I know there are many capable surgeons out there but it's really hard to find them. When you are reading posts on this site, look if who posted lists the surgeon. Many do, and you can determine if it's a positive or negative post. Good luck with your search.

Perhaps another searching tool. I learned that the urology is a tight group. Dr Brant had met Dr Karpman several times. Spoke reasonable well of him. Still 700 miles away. Dr Brants nurse knew of my circumcision urologist. I decribed him as looking like the crypt keeper from the old Tales of the Crypt series. She snicked a little & kind of agreed. Bottom line, ask a local urologist that doesn't do implants for a few names. Maybe ignore any that are local. Tell him that you didn't get warm fuzzies with them. Not much to lose with this route.

I think right here on FT is a great resource.
If you do a search on key words and terms like surgeon, doctor, revision, infection, high volume, journal etc you will inevitably land on posts that share the good and bad.
I believe you will find about 5 or 6 names that pop up regularly. I would collect them and post an opinion thread once you narrow down to your final 2-3.
The Peyronies Society forum has some good surgeon specific pages, though, geared towards the treatment of PD, many of the same names come up…
Good luck, its a good thing to research as that will give you the best mental conditioning.

thanks Ben.. I wish people would put what town or area that they had the surgery in - I have searched some of the name but there seems to be several to many with the same last name. but I will get there - may make a list when I get done and post it.

Fredstone2020. I haven't seen you post where you live. I understand your 3 hour drive concern. That a long drive for a dr appointment. My initial search only turned up drs around 700 miles away. I kept digging & a few members figured out where I lived. They told me about two drs within 30 miles. Btw, with some diligent searching using the search function of FT I did find more info on them.

I think your problem is that lots of very good implant drs don't advertise themselves. Many of them have a broad urology practice. Being good at implants is just part of their broad practice.

Utah only has a little over 3 million residents & we have 2 good implant drs & maybe a third on the way. Sometimes you need to reallly dig hard to find a good one. The drs that get frequent reports on FT aren't the only good ones.
