Hi guys,
I might be getting an implant next year, and I recently stumbled upon wolfpacker's post about the new AMS TENACIO pump coming out. As a young guy, an implant's reliability and lifespan are very important. It seems like the TENACIO's independent valves are a step forward in this sense. That being said, I don't want to be a guinea pig for untested equipment. The pump is very new so I would be one of the first patients to get it.
If you were in my position, would you roll the dice for a chance at a more user-friendly implant with a longer lifespan, or would you go with the tried and tested older models as your first implant?
Here is a brochure for the TENACIO: https://www.bostonscientific.com/conten ... -FINAL.pdf
Here is a link to its page:

I don’t buy cars when they come out of a complete refresh…. A couple years into a redesign is a better bet.
My perspective is different though, as I have an AMS plump I’m completely happy with. If in a few years I need a revision, or whenever the time comes I’ll certainly look at any proven technology at that point.
Are there studies done on a large number of live users or is it just design calculations?
Is it addressing auto inflation? Not an issue that I have, but I know many do. Otherwise it seems to not be much different. I don’t see a huge technology leap.

I understand this sentiment. Ideally, I would wait and see if the pump actually proves to be reliable, but I don't have that luxury.
Have you had issues with your AMS pump being 'sticky'? That is something they mention as improving, but I don't know what it means. Does it mean the pump doesn't expand or expand as fast after you press it? That could be concerning.
Otherwise, it does seem to address auto-inflation. It says it has a 'dedicated anti-auto inflate valve designed to prevent unexpected inflation.'
Do you know if Titan pumps suffer from auto-inflation and stickiness at similar rates. Focusing excusively on the pumps, is one brand better than the other?

I'm thinking along the lines of Jage64. I also have an AMS pump, its likely a little over 8 months old. I have no problems with it.
I kind of wonder what prompted a new pump design? I haven't noticed a surge in revisions due to pump failures. I wonder if this was to consolidate the implant design with a different pump that AMS is using? Economics of scale by using simplar designs on more than one product.
My dr told me way back in May that a new pump was coming. I asked if I should wait for it. He said nope, not any big changes.
If you're enamored with the latest/greatest thing? Then here you go.

Doesn’t look that much better .
It’s not like they revamped it and it compares to the colonplast.

Actually, it looks better in the fact there are grip nubs on the bulb and the deflate button is more prominent. Finding the deflate button on my Titan was a big issue for my numb fingers. The grip nubs should help to keep the bulb from slipping out of fingers and smacking into the boys.

Re: Would you get the new AMS TENACIO pump?
This is interesting, I would consider this new pump at revision time.
At almost 4 years the ams pump I have definitely has a “ personality “
Foggy pump sometimes, other times, clean deep pumps possible. Auto fill when it was still new. Long break in period.
Im wondering if the new design is larger than the old one? Could be a issue?

Interesting. By foggy you mean you couldn't pump all the way? Do you know what that is?
The new pump looks slightly larger, but I'm not sure tbh.
