The whole process has led to depression which I’ve fortunately had distractions from. I have been in a long term relationship where I occasionally have sex but go soft IF we’re able to have sex. I’m fortunate to have friends and the prospect of a career I’m really eager to begin.

I’m exhausted, though. I remember back in 2020 on Valentine’s Day… I was a sophomore in college waiting at a compounding pharmacy for viagra while my peers were having normal relationships. I have almost totally lost hope in these urologists. The last one I went to months ago didn’t even do a real check up, just said at my age it has to be in my head. How am I spending the money to see a guy who cares that little????

I genuinely think I need the implant soon. Viagra has helped me to have some sex but even then it doesn’t stay hard. Hearing what others have described as venous leak applies to me. I also think my mind got totally bricked by exposure to shock sites and online porn from a really young age. I’ve tried no fap for many months and don’t watch porn hardly at all anymore.

I guess my point for posting this is wondering what tf to do now. Like I said I’m nearly 26. I refuse to live a life of this, I want to have a family and a normal sex life. Doctors in the past have laughed me off saying the implant is where I’d have to go in the future. Not sure what I can do to be taken more seriously. Any input appreciated. Thanks all and happy holidays
26 years old. USA. ED problem since teenage years. Doctor prescribed ED meds showing some efficacy but not a guarantee. As much as I’d like the implant I now think I should hold off if I’m seeing some results from pills

I also saw a sex therapist for a couple months, wasn’t helpful. I don’t have trauma or anything

Just to let you know. Your statistics page says you joined in March 2018. Time does fly. I think you joined even before I did.

If you have exhausted all the pills options? The standard next step is injections. Finally an implant.

You mention urologists in a general term. I hope that you realize that very few urologists actually do implants. There is an old saying "to a carpenter, all problems look like a nail". That means that a hammer is their best tool. Most urologists best ED tool is pills.

You'll have better luck with a dr that can competently do an implant. Hopefully you either have some money saved or insurance that covers an implant.

This is your path. Only you can walk it.

Thanks, GT.
In response to your comment about various urologists: you make a good point, however I don’t know which urologist would be good to discuss the implant with and which wouldn’t. From what I see online, many urologists include IPP as part of the services they provide.
It has been a difficult journey to say the least, but I’m grateful I have toughed it out to this point. My hope is that I get a better job soon with good insurance benefits and can take care of this with minimal involvement from my parents. Merry Christmas to you and a happy New Year

The first basic steps are easy & painless. Using the nearest to you large cities name. Type it in the search box on the IMPLANT page. See what it finds. That might give you posts by men in or near that city that has used or visited a dr that does implants. If you don't get any results or you get poor feedback on the ones that you found. Use the next closest city for a new search. Keep using farther away cities names & be sure to write down any drs with decent comments. Basically you're piggybacking on other members previous searching. Nothing wrong with doing this.

I think Boston Scientific & Coloplast both have physician referral functions on their web sites. Again, use those names to search on FT. Btw, I'm not sure that all the drs that they'll refer you to are considered high volume.

Even the name high volume has a few different meanings. Some drs do almost implants exclusively. Others, like mine run a full service urology practice. He only has one day (Mondays) allocated to implant surgeries. Not sure his max per week. I think his nurse has told me of a week that he did 4, another week he only did one. If a holiday falls on a Monday? He doesn't do any implants that week.

I personally would advise to be carefull if a dr doesn't exhibit a high level of time organization. To me, that discipline shows a personality that is able to follow infection protocols closely. You want that kind of personality.

While doing this search. Work on yourself. If you have high blood sugar levels? Do your best to get your A1c under 7. If your blood pressure runs high. Now is the time to get it under control. Don't be afraid of getting put on meds. The anesthesiologist will look at these things closely. Try to get your BMI to 30 or under.

Maybe the hardest part. Make sure you get on a group health insurance. Get the office staff at your selected dr to research your policy for coverage. Start an implant savings account.

This shit doesn't just fall out of the sky for you. Even us old guys had to deal with all these things.

Be patient & steady. Good luck.

I am not grossly overweight but could comfortably lose 25 pounds or so.

The urologist I saw prescribed daily Cialis and said to come back to see him in a couple months. At least this is better than the last guy I saw who immediately dismissed me and didn’t schedule any sort of follow up. Between the first and second guy I saw the sexual therapist virtually… really didn’t do anything but waste money. Lol

fan: When you say "exhausted" and "depression" I'm reminded of the curious Hard/Flaccid condition. Take a look at Fed1981's post "27-year-old Pump Injury..." in General Discussion 8-1-20, and his post "Hard Flaccid - Success Story..." in Hard/Flaccid 9-3-20. Our Administrator Paul recommends the book "A Headache in the Pelvis."
Age 79 in 2024. On testosterone replacement due to hypothalamus malfunction. (Attention depressed guys: low testosterone is a cause.) Healthy health nut but ED due to getting old. Like to keep enough cardiovascular ability to thrust for 30 min.

Try to get an appointment to have a doppler study done. 5mg daily cialis. 20mg when you have sex. The last option is the implant. If nothing else works, seriously consider it.
Age 27. Tried pills, injections, shockwave therapy, rings, healthy lifestyle, alternative meds.

Have you tried a VED along with constriction rings? That might help you during the interim while you are looking for other options. It's a relatively inexpensive thing to do which might give you some hope. Check out the "Pump" page on this site for more information and suggestions on VED systems. My choice is Erecaid Classic, but there is alot of discussion about others.

I will differ with Alan810 on the VED (Vacuum Erectin Device) advice. For sex, constriction rings are appropriate. For therapeutic use, constriction rings are unnecessary at best. The therapeutic use of a VED is to keep blood flushing through the penile tissues and to keep those tissues stretchy and elastic (if that is not redundant).

I did use a VED with constriction rings twice for sex. It worked, but not to 100% satisfaction. Distracting to both of us. But I did use a protocol of cycling intermittent vacuum to the point of full erection and release to full flaccid, repeating that cycle for 30 minutes twice a day to emulate the usual erections an intact man gets normally. Takes about a minute per cycle.

I went through all three common oral medications for a couple decades before they lost effectiveness and was diagnosed with venous leakage clinically (no doppler test, just reviewing my symptoms in an office visit). Of course, I was 68 at the time and type 2 diabetic for years, so those facts certainly weighed in on the determination.

Seeing a urologist who specializes in sexual function (not a counselor, but an medical expert in the field) is important, especially considering our youth. Youth will make it (as you have discovered) an uphill climb to treatment.

I skipped injections and urethral suppositories, but you might want to try those less-invasive treatments before implant. Also, has your testosterone been checked? (Both free and total) An endocrinologist might assist a sexual-function urologist to determine if there is any other potential cause of your ED. Ask the urologist, once you find one qualified to address your particular situation.

I took more than a year to find a surgeon I trusted to cut my penis open. As Dr Eid wrote to me, "Find a surgeon dedicated to his craft". He went on to say that such a surgeon would put the quality of the outcome above all other considerations. I was willing to fly all the way across the country for that when I found Dr Shaw (almost literally fell into my lap at the last minute).

Good luck Baseballfan11.
