Infection cost for self-payers

Hello guys,

Writing this thread cause I couldn't find any definitive answer and I've searched through many other topics about infections.
There's many guys who travel to US from Europe or Asia just to get their implant done by high-volume and known surgeon like dr Clavell or dr Hakky. I'm pretty sure you've been asking your docs about what's the cost of procedures when things go really south, e.g. one gets an infection. We ain't under any kind of insurance so I presume handling the infection might require a hell load of money.

Just my opinion but there’s no definitive answer for that. The reason people use a high volume Dr is because their infection rates are low single digit numbers! And they have the skills to give you the perfect size and less complications. I’ve read on here for years and I’ve heard a single case where Dr was willing to do a revision for a minimal cost and I’ve read where they had to pay for all of it. I would ask the Dr what he thinks but don’t expect any commitments at all. To some degree we all roll the dice when we get an implant…… you know you could die in a car wreck or from a heart attack any day or any time. It’s simply a risk we are willing to take having an implant. Infection is rare and even then I’ve read where some were put on heavy antibiotics ands got better.

I've read these cases too and infection seems to be kinda lottery when it comes to outcomes indeed :
However there are cases where one was put in hospital for couple of days. I can see how insured guys may not worry about it THAT much but for self-payers it's another thing that drains their wallet. Hence why I'm asking about whats the protocol/opinion of surgeons like Hakky or Clavell, or Cordon (or several others high-volume ones) for handling that.

Surgeo self-pay has prices for penile implants with a 25K third party insurance for the first year. You might check out some of the doctors on that site. Hakky was on it until recently and removed his really low self-pay price. Right now, I would think Levine in Chicago is the top guy on the list with Kansas and Blick and Christine as being some other names that have been talked about.

Oh snap I've just scrolled through the documents and yea, it looks great to have that 25 grand 3rd party insurance as an option. However I'm like deadly set on to whom I wanna go and that's dr H I think booking consultation with him and asking directly on whether something alike surgeo's option is available in his private care. Just my two-yen worth. I traveled from Tokyo to see Clavell in Houston, paid cash (OK, credit card). I also was in touch with St. Luke's in Tokyo and doctors here monitored me for possibility of infection. Saw a specialist who prescribed different antibiotics. The doctor said everything was fine, but they did probably over-prescribe antibiotics, just to be safe. I had no problem with it, since I appreciated being monitored here in Tokyo -- just in case any issues.

There were no issues. Also, I will add that my cost to see the specialist at Tokyo St. Lukes was probably under US $20 per visit, and that included all pills.

I'm a self payer as well. I am flying to India in 3 weeks for my 700glx implant by Dr Rohit Krishna. Product issues are covered by the manufacturer (covered by BS sounds wrong but short for Boston Scientific of course), and Dr Krishna (in New Delhi) will do his side at no cost. Of course there is the travel expenses, but that's minor.

Dr Rohit will keep me in the hospital for 48Hrs directly following the surgery, then ill transfer to a nice hotel adjacent for 7 more days, with daily checkups, medications, support, etc.

After reading on FT since January 2024 and coming to terms with my condition, I've found that OPs journals of experience has helped prepare me (or so I hope) for what is to be expected.

As FT is mainly geared towards the American clientele, should I bother writing about my personal experience in India?

It will be my first visit to India, but I've been to over 50 countries so far.
