Hello everyone, I just got my implant a week ago now and I’ve been having a pretty rough time with recovery. With the balls swelling, wound healing, adjusting to device it’s quite a bit to adjust to.
I have been experiencing a strange phenomenon. My penis is reflexively flexing for some reason throughout the day.
It’s the part of the penile muscle that contracts when you’re climaxing but it’s happening involuntarily throughout the day.
I’m only about 10% inflated, and that ”flex” comes quite often randomly, and it hurts. And when I stubbed my toe or lose my balance when walking, it also activates it… Has anyone experienced this before when they were at the beginning stages of recovery?
My doctor thinks it might be because I’m constipated and my pelvic floor muscle is trying to compensate, but I don’t know… I’m hoping this will go away soon since the incision and swelling already hurt a lot, now I have this secondary pain I have to deal with.

Definitely pelvic floor. That's called involuntary kegel.
Why are you constipated btw, cause of the meds?

Hard flaccid syndrome since 2019. Trying to get better with conservative treatments but an implant is on my radar

I think you’re right. Yes, I’ve been taking a lot of pain meds and the prescribed antibiotics. The symptoms started after not pooping for 2 days.
Can constipation cause involuntary kegel like this?
I went back to my surgeon and he prescribed some stool softener and laxative.

Mine did that. Annoyed the hell out of me because it definitely hurt. It stops hurting though. I started taking 2 Tylenol with 2 Advil every 4 hours. (I think you're supposed to alternate them, but I would forget, so it was easier for me to take them together.)
As for the stool softeners... take them! I'm super regular, so I figured I'd have no problems. HA! I didn't poop for a week after surgery. I went out and picked up some Senokot and was going the next day.
Alas, that didn't stop the muscle reflexes, but the pain associated with them dissipated over time. Like everything else about this journey... it takes time. I'm 8 weeks out and still take Tylenol/Advil regularly (but that's more for the grafts than the implant.)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Yes it’s the muscle around the shaft that flexes for me too. My theory is two things. One is probably constipation. Second is probably because of the bad pain around the scrotum and penis, that my body is just tensing up the whole region subconsciously protect the area.
Kind of like how if someone were to get punched in the stomach, they’d likely tense up their stomach and other muscles to anticipate the pain.
Right now it’s not happening as frequently when I’m at rest, but if I’m walking around with my pain, or if I stub my toe or lose balance, the “flex” comes in involuntarily.
This has been by far the worst part for me so far one week out, how long did that stop being painful for you? I really hope this isn’t permanent.

Mine would flex when I started feeling an erection, and since I spent 3 weeks partially inflated... it felt like an erection, and my body wanted to flex there. The soreness does go away. It can take weeks, but it does go away. Pain meds should help make it easier to handle though.

Re: Recovery Process - Penile Reflex Problem
I had random pains for first few months. Part of the healing process. Even though good surgeons don’t damage the curves they still cause inflammation that in turn affects your nerves and that can take a while to heal. All part of the process. It could take 2-3 months to get past this stage. then when you start feeling better you start cycling and then there’s this whole new pain process. I welcomed it because I knew it was a means to an end of my ED that I had fought for 12 years. Keep a positive attitude and that’s at least 1/2 the battle.

Re: Recovery Process - Penile Reflex Problem
Thank you all for the replies and reassurance. I will ride this out for a few more weeks knowing it’s all part of the process now. I also think I stopped my pain meds too soon as well that’s why it’s bothering me more than usual. Going to start taking Tylenol and take more walks to heal faster, hopefully it’ll be gone by the time everything fully heals up!

After this procedure and quite a few others I'm sent home with a prescribed bottle of docusate. I assumed procedures tend to cause this?
