Implant Journal

Postby equusAz » Tue Sep 17, 2024 11:35 am

Hey all -

So I posted in here before about possibly needing an implant, so this is kind of an update then. I have some slight deformation due to Pyrionie's at the base and slight curve as a side effect of a prostatectomy due to cancer. I'm 48yo, bi (married to a man) healthy male, not overweight, and other than the prostate cancer (which has been cleared as the surgery was in July of 23), I'm in excelent health. After the RP, they told me they removed one of the nerves for erections due to possible encroachment of the cancert which turned out to NOT be the case. Better safe than sorry, however, it lead to total ED with no nerve recovery. I tried the pills even at 100mg of Cialis I had nothing. The only way to get an erection was with bimix and they were incredibly painful (burning sensation). I've done my best to maintain size and eleasticity with injections and VED but - still have had some loss but I had enough to start with that I'm only interested in getting FUNCTION back now.

Today I had a Cystoscopy to ensure all my plumbing is good and that the damage from the Pyrionie's is minimal - which it is, so I'll be scheduling my surgery next. I'll be going with the Coloplast Titan XL - measurements to be done during of course. I'm nervous but anxious to be functional again. So I plan on using this thread as a journal to document my journey. My physician is Dr. Segal from Chesepeake Urology in Baltimore and he's done quite a few implants and came recomended from my primary Urologist.

More to follow...

Thanks - though the decision was made FOR me by cancer - but hey - I can either run from it or embrace it - and make the best with what I'll have. So - I'm going with the former...

Nerves are understandable. I was super anxious leading up to surgery. The morning of surgery I felt like I was on autopilot, then it was suddenly over. It's worth it in the end though. Better to have the implant than be floppy all the time. :)

Quick update - I've scheduled my surgery for December 9th. I've been through a lot of ups and downs over the last week or so waiting for the scheduling. I'm both terrified and excited at the same time. I think thats a first for surgery for me. Every time before was because of something bad that happened or negative health issues - but this? Its strange to have both feelings at once.

I have United PPO - so I SHOULD be good. The doctors office will be calling in to get approval as we get nearer. I have a work trip to get through in October - so thats good that I don't have to deal with going on that while healing. That would be insane!

Anyway --- now the waiting begins. Any advice? Things I should read up on?

My surgery is also December 9. Looks like we might be going through this together
Born 6/15/74. I have substantial venous leak with fairly severe hour-glassing, but no hard plaques. My urologist is sexual health expert Dr. Laurence Levine who performed a Doppler Ultrasound and diagnosed me with VL in 2020. I also have mild BPH

excited and terrified --- that was what most of us who went through felt, I am sure of that.

Yeah, you don't want to do much of anything for at least one week post-op. Just ice, recline, watch TV and more ice. I hope you plan to take 2 weeks away from work -- they are a beast to get through. Then it starts getting easier by the day.

Good luck!
ED worsened over 25 years, likely VL. Went through pills and injections, and results faded over time. Implant AMS 700CX, 21 cm, no RTE, on 6/3/24.

It'll be IPP.

On a VED - I used one but had to stop. It was causing issues bulging /and an indent. I do use injections every few days to keep on it - and just bear with the pain of it - but the VED was starting to cause deformity where the rings were used (indents). After talking to the doc, I stopped. I do have a bathmate I use gently - but for the most part I'm only partially using VED. Unfortunately the indent can't be mitigated without major surgery and its more asthetic at this point. I also had developed Pyriones during all of this. I've lost girth but I had a ton to begin with and can live with giving up some.

At this point I need functionality.
